To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

My SIL called her dog after her dead father. She and her mother used to refer to him as 'Jim the dog' and the late dad as 'Jim the human.' MIL once came back from holiday and said: 'Oh I did miss Jim when I was on holiday. Jim the dog.'

Jim wasn't the actual name, but you get the drift....

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 09/04/2021 18:14

Is it Rover?

Lucyk1 · 09/04/2021 18:24

Stop being so precious. You don't own a silly name.

Bakingcupcake · 09/04/2021 18:33

It would only have been crap of your friend if you told her the name you were thinking b4 she got the dog, thats obv not the case so YABU. What is with people wanting unusual names for their kids like they're the only ones ..get a grip...you might never even have a girl but you still want her to rename her dog!

MollyMinniesMum · 09/04/2021 18:38

You are surely not serious?

You know the world doesn’t revolve around you, right?

Michellelovesizzy · 09/04/2021 18:39

My nephew's girlfriend has the same name as my dog. I asked her to change it but for some reason she's refused!

GrandTheftWalrus · 09/04/2021 19:04

I was born in the 80s. Very popular first name. There was 5 of us just in my class. That didn't include all the other classes. Think there was 8 classes.

Mum2b43 · 09/04/2021 19:07

I did a quick Google as I am nosy. Is it Marleigh.... if so there’s a old movie of a dog named Marley.
Or ... amber ? If so I know 2 of those and I don’t have many friends

Pinkpeanut27 · 09/04/2021 19:10

We spent ages coming up with names we liked and hadn’t been used by my husbands very large family , ended up naming our daughter after my nieces cat !!

Zipperdidoodaa · 09/04/2021 19:36

RatintheCat · 09/04/2021 19:38

No one will care. I promise. I was named after my grandparents pub and dog....it's never raised any eyebrows!

Hexinthecity · 09/04/2021 19:42

It has to be poppy, if it is it’s a total dog name, I know loads of people with puppy poppies. Consider yourself saved from have a doggy name, my poor uncle Alfie is tortured every time he goes for a walk down on the shore near their house, he keeps hearing his name being called and turning round only to find out it’s yet another dog being called back to its owner 😂

EthelMerman · 09/04/2021 19:46

I’ve not met many people with my name but I’ve probably met as many dogs with my name. Life’s too short to let it bother me.

And even if you find a name you think people can’t shorten, they’ll find a way or they’ll lengthen it.

And maybe when you meet your baby you’ll think the name you love doesn’t suit her and will decide Ethel is a much better one 😄😉

TopTabby · 09/04/2021 19:52

Ha ha, my dd had the same name as the neighbour's cat when she was born & we've met many, many dogs, a llama, a camel & a very fine pedigree cow with the same name since! Grin

Baileysmum220118 · 09/04/2021 20:01

@Leprechaunsundays

I’m just really upset because it took us so long to find a name like that and now if we do have a DD (we’re not finding out the gender until birth) she has to share it with a dog!! I just thought being my friend she would respect my wishes
If it was a child rather than a puppy would you still expect her to change it? Seriously, she can name her dog, cat, snake whatever she likes and you cannot expect her to change it (no matter how close you are).
MermaidinJeans · 09/04/2021 20:02

It's a name. No ownership. You have no more right to ask them to change it than you would have to ask them.

Either use it or pick another. That's your choice.
