To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

This is hilarious! Yes, YABVU.

MadameBoulaye · 09/04/2021 17:30

You sound like a prima donna! Are you normally so self-entitled? Write it off and you choose another name, or lump it.

simonisnotme · 09/04/2021 17:30

YABVU
Dont be a prat 'OP'
you have no rights as to who uses a name that you like

QueenoftheFarts · 09/04/2021 17:36

You are letting your pregnancy hormones make you batshit. Use the name and carry on or find a new name. It is not now, and never should be your friends problem.

Of note there were five QueenoftheFarts in my class when I went to school even though my mum had chosen a name she thought no-one was using.

That's what happens, names come back into fashion and your 900th popularity will probably be half the academic year.... unless it was Gary... apparently popular for neither boys or girls these days. You're welcome!

gypsy22 · 09/04/2021 17:36

You’re pregnant
Everything is super sensitive related to your baby
I get it
But in hindsight you will think what a noodle you were being !
Keep your name choice
You will regret it if you don’t .

Hertsgirl10 · 09/04/2021 17:36

Is this a joke

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 09/04/2021 17:37

You'll have to destroy her. And her little dog, too.

pepsicolagirl · 09/04/2021 17:38

have we started a poll on what the name is yet?

Luna is my guess

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 09/04/2021 17:39

Fluffy?

hulahooper2 · 09/04/2021 17:40

How often will your child and the dog be together mmm

Sprockerdilerock · 09/04/2021 17:42

Tbh if you were my good friend and our friendship was important to me I would change my dogs name. She hasn't been unreasonable of course but I can imagine this feels quite gutting to you having your heart set on this name, especially with pregnancy hormones being all over the place.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 09/04/2021 17:44

Your next message should be an apology for being such a Pratt and say that you hope she won’t mind if you use that name too.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 09/04/2021 17:45

@HeyDemonsItsYaGirl

Fluffy?
Grin
Tessabelle74 · 09/04/2021 17:46

This is a joke right? You can't go around telling people what makes they can use, unless you have it copyrighted and sister tell us? Grow up and either keep the name or pick another, it's not like she's picked it to spite you

cherish123 · 09/04/2021 17:47

Is this real?

Tessabelle74 · 09/04/2021 17:49

@QueenoftheFarts I wonder if your name is the same as mine? 1974 was particularly good year for it and there were 5 of us in my year, in 2 schools in different counties!

eltsihT · 09/04/2021 17:52

Both my DS’s have unusual names, infact they are the only ones in the year they were born... I checked the name list.

I have 2 friends who have named their cats with the same name as DS1. (It is a name from a TV show that came after DS1 was born (he is named after my foreign husband uncle)

I really don’t think it matters, and the pregnancy hormones are probably making you protective of it.

Scotland32 · 09/04/2021 17:55

Is it 1 April?! You actually asked to change the name. OMG. For a start, that’s entitled and rude and secondly....it’s a dog! She can call it wherever she wants.

Cindersrellie · 09/04/2021 17:57

Well done OP, you've done the right thing and your response was dignified!

roxanne119 · 09/04/2021 17:57

Build a bridge

Wally1983 · 09/04/2021 17:58

IMO you are being unreasonable. Twice during my pregnancy names that we liked were taken by friends dogs...we just decided to choose a different name! He does now have the same name as my friends hubby - but we’d rather that than after a dog so I get your reason for changing it but I think unreasonable for asking someone to change their pets name

DoingItMyself · 09/04/2021 18:00

I just thought being my friend she would respect my wishes

Shock
Harls1969 · 09/04/2021 18:09

I’m just really upset because it took us so long to find a name like that and now if we do have a DD (we’re not finding out the gender until birth) she has to share it with a dog!! I just thought being my friend she would respect my wishes

  1. You don't even know the sex of your baby and you're expecting her to change her dog's name? No love, sorry
  2. If you were her friend, you'd respect her wishes. You are most definitely being unreasonable and precious. Sorry
LipstickLou · 09/04/2021 18:10

Did you tell her the chosen name? Two weeks before my son was born my close friend named her earlier born son our chosen first name. I went ahead with the same name. When our son went to school he was one of three boys with the same first name in his class. I would say if it suits the baby go ahead. Your child is what matters here. I no longer see my friend as her values were not mine. My son suits his name, I am not sure anything else would have suited him.

Harmonypuss · 09/04/2021 18:10

Whatever the name is, assuming you have a girl and want to give her this name, by the time she's a teenager a) the dog will most likely have died by then and b) she'll hate the band and will be looking at you as though you're mad asking why the heel you gave her such an obscure name in the first place!
