To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

@Aprilshowersandhail

We have a ddog called Aria. Ds has one in his class. A girl not a ddog. Have told him to keep quiet. Though my Aria was born first!! Grin
When we got our Ddog and we're trying to come up with names my DD suggested Daisy. I thought it was lovey until I realised she picked it as it was one of her friends at school's name. I said we can't call the Ddog after your friend and she said "why not? She's one of the nicest friendliest people I know?" 😂🥰
Constance11 · 08/04/2021 20:57

Now you've decided not to use it, can you tell us what it is? :)

Enough4me · 08/04/2021 21:02

Is the name Karen?

SkedaddIe · 08/04/2021 21:03

Dog gone it, just tell us the name.

oopsydaisyyy · 08/04/2021 21:14

@Leprechaunsundays

It’s not Luna!

My husband thinks we should change it now and said he thought it was a bit too unusual anyway! Which is another surprise to me as well as he told me he liked it! So maybe this is for the best. I will try to see that as a positive!

I do know that this isn’t the most important thing when it comes to babies. But I do think names are important to get right.

ur changing it anyway, so what was it?
@Nanny0gg

Please could you ask your friend to change it. Thanks.

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

If you saw my face you'd understand why the dog has an Instagram instead of me.
I'll see what I can do...

Cryalot2 · 08/04/2021 21:28

Oddly this cheered me up.
Many years ago my mil tried to tell me what her opinion was. ,(I hated it ) . For years I had a boys name picked his cousin had the same name.(different surnames)
I went with my choice.
Choose the name love. Enjoy your baby and may you get a good sleeper.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

A friend of a friend wanted to get a spaniel, that she was going to call Daniel. She never did get the dog, but named her son Daniel instead.
Daniel the spaniel 😂😂
KnockKnockPotato · 08/04/2021 21:31

I'm interested to know the name..?

Lauz841 · 08/04/2021 21:32

Mine is huge, I haven’t seen another one that big. A few museums and the aquarium near us have smaller ones but I think mine is a dinosaur or something! He’s pretty cool, but the kids feed him his live earth worms because it makes me shudder. I have no clue how old he is because I ‘rescued’ him from someone who was going to flush him because she put him in her fish tank and he ate the other fish! He’s really interesting, if he is actually a he, I have no clue. I only know what I learned from google in the car while I was bringing him home in a broken kettle. I’ve kept him alive for 4 years now so I must be doing ok. X

@steppemum

so, I was at the vet this week, and there was a man dropping off his kittens for their vaccinations.

Their names?

Beryl and Norman.

honestly the best names I've heard for ages, and definitely due a resurgence.

I had a little laugh with him about his excellent names.

Yes, he said, we don't go for Tiddles. We like strange names. Our last cat was called Trevor.
Grin

I was tempted to give him my phone number and say - I need to be friends with you and your wife, you sound like my sort of people.

Someone I know called their dog, Basil.

I love it. Can imagine calling it to heel 'BASILLLL!'

BrownEyedGirl80 · 08/04/2021 21:41

End your friendship and everyone you associated with that friend then you'll never have to hear the name again 😉

TaVeryMuchLove · 08/04/2021 21:44

Jeez! Some bonkers threads on MN tonight!

TaVeryMuchLove · 08/04/2021 21:44

Very entertaining though

Billandben444 · 08/04/2021 22:33

Please chalk the name on the road outside your house (not your neighbour's drive though) and then we'll come round to suss it out. And, while we're there, we can discuss how we manage to live on 9k a month. I love MN sometimes.

chaosrabbitland · 08/04/2021 22:37

our beautiful late french lop rabbit was named boris , i absolutly hate boris johnson and i did write to downing street to ask him if hed change his name as i felt it was an insult to our rabbit , im still fuming that he never did so

PenfoldPenny · 08/04/2021 22:37

Its a dog. A dog that will live 10 years or so. Your child will be a person who will live (its fair to assume) decades! I presume few people you know know both the dog and you so seriously who cares. Just go ahead with your choice and dont make a fuss about it. You cant claim ownership of a name.

TheIblisHasspoken · 08/04/2021 22:40

@SmellsLikeWineIGuess

😂

Following this thread purely for the comedy gold comments that are bound to ensue.

Your friend won’t be changing the name of her puppy, by the way!

🤣🤣🤣🤣 yes!!
TrickyD · 08/04/2021 22:46

DS2 arrived; friend A called to admire him . She dashed off to friends B to tell then they must change the name of their newly acquired guinea pig because Reuben was also the name of Tricky’s new baby.

somuchcoffeeneeded · 08/04/2021 22:50

I really want to know what the name is!

Namechange1991x · 08/04/2021 22:54

You're worried a dog is going to get more attention than your baby?
Your baby is.of.course precious to you and your loved ones, but you can't expect your baby to be no.1 to anyone else.
You are coming across a bit entitled

Atalantea · 08/04/2021 22:55

@Leprechaunsundays

I’m just really upset because it took us so long to find a name like that and now if we do have a DD (we’re not finding out the gender until birth) she has to share it with a dog!! I just thought being my friend she would respect my wishes
So you might not even be having a dd... Biscuit Grin
Howshouldibehave · 08/04/2021 22:58

I cannot believe you thought she should change her pet’s name just to keep you happy-that’s mad! I bet she’ll be dining off that story for years-what were you thinking!?

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 08/04/2021 23:05

If this is not a wind-up (which I'm pretty sure it is) it's in the realms of Balonz and screaming in the Sistene Chapel and definitely deserves to be in Classics.

Ingridla · 08/04/2021 23:12

You're being ridiculous.
