To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

Oh my goodness ! This surely can’t be real. Make sure the boy’s name is 10,000,000 down the popularity list as it may be a kangaroo’s name in Australia.

Ivy455 · 08/04/2021 19:53

That's a good response OP! x

HowManyToes · 08/04/2021 19:53

@Maireas

Oooh, please let it be Jenesis! The sibling could be Eggsodus!
Fucking LOL 🤣🤣🤣
Ivy455 · 08/04/2021 19:54

God people on this thread have been a bit mean. I get that it might seem a bit silly but come on she's heavily pregnant, give her a break!

chilledteacher · 08/04/2021 20:01

I had a parent remove their Tegan from the school as there was another in their child's class so it was no longer unique. Batshit.

Bramblebutter · 08/04/2021 20:01

@leprachaunsundays if I was the friend with the puppy, and you messaged me, I would change the name. I don't know why you're getting rinsed.

CaffiSaliMali · 08/04/2021 20:03

I hope they weren't in Wales - tegan is the Welsh word for toy! Grin

@OliverBabish
Yep it's from SATC 'The Baby Shower' episode Grin

Bramblebutter · 08/04/2021 20:05

Also it's a dog, it's not a baby! Give it another name, it's not the same as giving a human their name.

I love dogs. But they arent at the same level as human babies

Itlod1982 · 08/04/2021 20:10

@Bramblebutter but the puppy has already been named?! She'll have told her friends and family the name and has obviously shared it on social media.

The OPs concern seems to be that other people will hear the name and use it for their babies so if the friend now changes her dogs name, it won't even resolve the issue?

Anyway regardless of whether it's a baby, a dog, a goldfish...whatever, the friend has named it before she knew her friend had it as a potential name. Also, it turns out OPs DP isn't even keen on the name after all which to me would suggest its now off the table?!

Leprechaunsundays · 08/04/2021 20:11

And I just want to say it’s not necessarily about being unusual, it’s just one we both liked. I don’t think our boys name is that unusual. I only mentioned it because I was surprised that someone else had picked it so soon after we chose it. I suppose just a weird coincidence

@Mistressinthetulips

Reverse?
What does this mean?
Newmama29 · 08/04/2021 20:18

YAcompletelyU to even think you have the right to tell your friend what she can or cannot name her dog. I understand you’re annoyed that she’s ended up using the name you like but unless you told her of that name already & she “stole” it from you, you’re not really entitled to say anything to her.

KenAdams · 08/04/2021 20:23

My guesses were Luna or Coco

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/04/2021 20:30

A friend of a friend wanted to get a spaniel, that she was going to call Daniel. She never did get the dog, but named her son Daniel instead.

BMHM · 08/04/2021 20:30

@KenAdams they are lovely names for a dog, one of my very good friend's Husky with bright blue surreal eyes is called Luna and it really suits her.

Clarinet1 · 08/04/2021 20:40

Well I don't have DC or pets myself but my thoughts are:
When I was on the way my father just said "If it's a boy it'll be X (which was a name with family connections)" and then he thought for a bit and said "And if it's a girl it'll be clarinet1" (not my real name obvs). So, when I arrived and, two and a half years later, my DB came on the scene those were the names we got. My DM had had other ideas but was quite happy with the names.
My first name is fairly unusual (might have been one or two others in a large-ish secondary school year) but not a name no-one has ever come across either (same as a famous actress for example). This is OK by me but I would have quite liked a shorter name given that surname is quite long. But if I had been one of the many Susans/Karens/Janes that there were in my generation I wouldn't have been bothered and I can't really see that anyone can really expect to keep a name all to themselves - dog or person.
I also strongly think that if I had had a child I would have thought of a name that suited them when they arrived. One couple I know had thought of a name but when the midwife said "And have you got a name for him?" The mother said a totally different name (well both were biblical but that's where the similarity ends) and that's the name the child got.
So what I am saying is don't stress about uniqueness and certainly not uniqueness from a dog and if it's the pregnancy hormones you will come through it with an inspiration!

Womencanlift · 08/04/2021 20:41

Wow there have been a lot of precious people on threads before but this one is right up there. Can’t believe you would just assume she would change the name?

Brigante9 · 08/04/2021 20:42

Maddest thing I’ve read all day!

We did have to go to the neighbour when we had my bil’s puppy for a few weeks to explain we would’ve using her ds2’s name a lot for a while!

GreyhoundG1rl · 08/04/2021 20:45

Oh, give over, ffs. The name will have a surge in popularity due to her dog's Instagram page bringing it to the world's attention... Please 🤦‍♀️

Aprilshowersandhail · 08/04/2021 20:47

We have a ddog called Aria. Ds has one in his class. A girl not a ddog. Have told him to keep quiet. Though my Aria was born first!!

Wizzbangfizz · 08/04/2021 20:47

And I thought the deleted thread from the woman (aka troll) who wanted her partner to stop child maintenance so they could pay for their wedding would be the most batshit thing I would read all day Confused

Bluntness100 · 08/04/2021 20:48

Oooh, please let it be Jenesis! The sibling could be Eggsodus

You win the Internet 😂😂😂😂

Hopeisnotastrategy · 08/04/2021 20:53

If/ When your putative daughter arrives, call her

IWasGoingToBeCalledSomethingElseButAPuppyGotThereFirst.

That's unusual.

Maireas · 08/04/2021 20:55

Thank you, @Bluntness100!
I love that Jenesis is in the top thousand and hope that the OP is inspired. Eggsodus would suit either gender, I think.
