To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

OP posts:

I bet that its popularity is going to rise a lot in the next year if it's at 900 snd you both chose it.

SelkieBoru · 08/04/2021 18:44

Is it gloria, we nearly got a dog call3d gloria. Such a cool name

Carryonlikeaporkchop · 08/04/2021 18:45

Axolotl is lovely.

I'm going to suggest it to my pregnant DIL.

RhubarbFairy · 08/04/2021 18:46

My best friend has 3 boys. All older than my DC (though one is only just and in the same year as DS1). Both of my boys have a name in common with her two. DS1s middle name is the same as her DS2s first name. And my DS2 and her DS3 share a middle name.

I'm pretty sure she didn't give two shits that I'd chosen those names. In fact DS2 almost had the same first name as her DS3 too.

She says that they're lovely names and isn't surprised we chose them.

RhubarbFairy · 08/04/2021 18:46

Also, Simon was clearly a cat.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 08/04/2021 18:47

I know 3 pets (a dog and 2 cats) called Dave. All I believe after Rodney (OFAH)

Lauz841 · 08/04/2021 18:48

I have an axolotl too. Mine is called Axel. I feel like I’ve let him down! 😩

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/04/2021 18:48

Didn't do Indiana Jones any harm...

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/04/2021 18:53

Please tell us the name...

LittleBearPad · 08/04/2021 18:54

Fascinated about who voted YANBU.

Should have called him Simon.
Chunkymenrock · 08/04/2021 18:58

My guinea pigs are Hebe and Teasel. You could have one of those if you like?

Crankley · 08/04/2021 18:58

While we're on the subject of 'yoonique' names, I have named the robin in my garden Ichabod, nickname Ichy. I don't want to hear of any children or pets being given his name on here. Smile

anxietyanonymous · 08/04/2021 19:00

Being a bit miffed she chose that name
Is natural. But you can't ask someone
To change it.

And i think saying that she will have popularised it by naming the dog it is going a bit far.

If you really think she found out and did
To hurt you shes not a good friend.

Wait till your lovely baby is born and see what he or she looks like and take your time to select a name or confirm your choice.

TokyoSushi · 08/04/2021 19:01

Oh OP! Hopefully one day you'll look back on this and laugh! Grin

slashlover · 08/04/2021 19:03

My sister was supposed to be called Louise, people were told that was the name. My parents changed it after the first day because she didn't look like a Louise.

MoonfacedMilksop · 08/04/2021 19:03

Names around the 900 marks from last year are Biden, Aries, Ignacio, Heavenly, Landry and Egypt. Your baby might share a name with a dog but I don’t think you’ll have to worry about there being 3 Heavenly’s in your kids class. Although at my dc1’s first nursery out of the 8 boys there, 2 were called Ptolemy. Only in Surrey.

1AngelicFruitCake · 08/04/2021 19:06

I understand your disappointment. When you’re pregnant with your first everything is so important but you realise that your baby is the biggest thing in the world to you but not the biggest to other people, including friends.

My children have names that are lovely (to me) and slightly unusual. I accepted there might be others with the same name but we picked them because we loved them. Be secure in your choices and try not to worry.

Ahwig · 08/04/2021 19:06

My grandson has a normal name which I love but I’ve also given him a nickname which is like an endearment, myself and my husband usually call him by our nickname for him. When he was 11 we met up at a school concert and we saw his mum’s side of the family who we get on with but hadn’t seen for a long time.Turns out in chatting to his aunt she had named her dog the nickname we call him. I mentioned it to him saying “oh shall we stop calling you that name now?”
“ Err no why, ?”
“Well I thought you might not want to be called after a dog!”
Turns out he hadn’t even connected the two didn’t care at all and still wanted to be known by us as his nickname . ( I did agree not to use it in front of his mates though!”)

Nellle · 08/04/2021 19:07

You already have asked her to change it and she tried to keep it light and friendly, but isn't changing it.

You should still call your daughter your favourite name. No one owns a name.
