So where can you buy a 4 bed detached for less than £450k?

Inspired by the previous thread.

Where in the UK can you buy a 4 bed, 2 receptions detached house with a garage & garden?

We were all set to put our house on the market last summer to upsize... and then we didn't.

Now there's a huge influx of people from the SE moving here, which has pushed up prices. In a way this is good because our house is worth more but we want to upsize so we would have to take on a larger mortgage than originally planned.

Are there any areas left in the UK where a 4 bed detached is £450k or less?

North East including in “good” areas which are close to beach, countryside and city centres.

@rwalker GrinGrin
Somebody had put a jumper for £850 on the local buy & sell fb page. One of the comments was 'put this on a specialist sell site, you can buy a house for £850 in Burnley, nobody is going to buy a jumper for that much' 😂

MrsExpo · 06/04/2021 06:53

I’d happily sell you ours for that. Lovely location, good transport links ... in the East Midlands.

Not a chance where I live, 1 hour north west of central London. I'm interested that many on this thread think it's only London where you can't.
I'm 60 miles from London and you wouldn't get one here for that price, either.

There are parts of the county (East Sussex) where you could though: Bexhill, Hailsham, Hastings/St Leonards, Uckfield. Uckfield has a lot of new estates and good rail links to London.

Detached thatched 5-bed in Dorset village a short drive from Blandford Forum market town?

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 06/04/2021 07:01

We are hoping to move to North Wales in the next year. Lots of detached four bedrooms for under £400k. Have lived in Wales most of my life and know huge numbers of people working here with little to no Welsh. A lot of jobs will say Welsh is desirable but most jobs don't consider it essential.

West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire off the top of my head.

EasterBunny21 · 06/04/2021 07:24

Scotland easy. £230 would get you one.

Vursayles · 06/04/2021 07:31

West Midlands.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 06/04/2021 07:34

You can even live in the SE if you want... in Thanet or Medway, you’d be able to find a four-bed detached for this budget quite easily. And if grammar schools float your boat (several PP mention these approvingly), we have them.

My bit of Cornwall. ( And it's not a clay town either)
My house fits your description and I am sure it would be valued at a lot less than £450k.

That Havant one in Hampshire (page 4-can’t quote as already quoting) is only just over 1223 sq feet! And it is in Leigh Park.

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/10481926#/
Though searching for other detached new builds in Hampshire, maybe that isn’t so bad for £442k as this linked one is very similar for almost £600k.

Even in what looks to be a less desirable area with hardly any outside space and not what anyone pictures when they hear, ‘detached’ is over £450k www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/103873958#/

This in Aldershot is £500k and as far as I can wrk out, Aldershot and Leigh Park are areas that are much cheaper than anywhere else. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/71291853#/

I don’t think Hampshire really does have anything.

@Thedogscollar

Most places in the North of England and probably all of Scotland.
Definitely not where I live in the North east.

This is a nice house if you like new build but it’s a weird area and the secondary schools are not great. If you want to be in catchment area for good schools and the more describable area then you will pay much more.

I’m in north Buckinghamshire on the Oxfordshire/northants border and paid £400k for my 4 bed 2 reception with garage and garden 6 months ago.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/04/2021 07:51

North East of England. It could be half that budget.
