So where can you buy a 4 bed detached for less than £450k?

Inspired by the previous thread.

Where in the UK can you buy a 4 bed, 2 receptions detached house with a garage & garden?

We were all set to put our house on the market last summer to upsize... and then we didn't.

Now there's a huge influx of people from the SE moving here, which has pushed up prices. In a way this is good because our house is worth more but we want to upsize so we would have to take on a larger mortgage than originally planned.

Are there any areas left in the UK where a 4 bed detached is £450k or less?

Thurrock, close to London, or Medway, you can in the South East, just not as nice as the Cotswolds but we are 1/2 from London.

Basically anywhere in relatively rural Scotland. My 5 bed, detached 2 living room-ed, huge garden-ed Victorian villa was 280k and absolutely beautiful.

Ignore the Hillsborough ones that have crept in. Starting prices over a million! And we all know the hideous housing market in Sheffield and that they are advertised below the asking price. But only Whirlow, Ecclesall and Dore?!😵

It's like anywhere OP, there are good and less good parts of even 'desirable areas' like The Cotswolds. I've friends in flats in Glasgow over (£750,000), but a few miles down the road you will get a detached house for less. Depends on what part of the city you pick (some flats go for millions).

You need to narrow down what type of area you are looking for (climate - huge differences across the UK), amenities, transport etc.

I’m from East Midlands and husband is from South Yorkshire, you can get everything on your list in either place for that price (or less).

East Midlands or at least parts of them definitely.

Barrow in Furness. Don't be scared if you google it. Good employment at BAE Systems. Ulverston at a push which is more market towny, particularly the newbuilds. West Cumbria which is remote but beautiful. Scotland after that.

West Wilts definitely and probably most of the county bar a few places. It's a beautiful county.

Im amazed few people have suggested Norfolk.I live in Norwich a lovely city.There are 4 bed detached houses for sale here at that price And if you dont want to live in city many outlying suburbs and market towns have similar.

People come to Norwich and Norfolk and dont want to leave but it does tend to get ignored though it was voted one of best places in Eastern region to live.

In a green suburb of Liverpool by a golf course and near a beach.
Either Formby, Crosby or Birkdale.

A lot of the N E and N W, Northamptonshire, a lot of Scotland (except Edinburgh and North Fife), Midlands.

Everywhere? Because you certainly can't get it in Galashiels, where my daughter is looking. Nor Peebles or Innerleithen.

238 detached 4 beds available in Warwickshire. We’re in Rugby. I don’t know every area on that search in depth but Warwickshire I find generally has good transport links, decent to great schools and near to the country side depending on where in Warwickshire you are.

You can get brand new and somewhat larger in Bridgend / mid Glamorgan area of Wales. Close to the Designer Shopping Outlet and M4. A beautiful sandy beach with world class surfing within half and hour drive and places like Cowbridge and Swansea within easy reach for culture and nights out. Decent golf clubs nearby too or check out the wild orchids at Kenfig National Nature Reserve...or go walking up the Blaengarw valley breathtaking views and lovely people.

Not in West Berkshire, well the town where we live anyway.

You need to to midlands and further north I’m in Lincolnshire and there’s loads 4 & 5 bed properties for under 450k

North Wales, we have just bought under 300k, 4bed-detached, good sized garden, double garage, lovely area and next to a National Trust.
