to expect to have more disposable income than single mums claiming benefits

i no longer know why me and dh bother, he works full time and i work part time so that i can juggle the child care.

i know of 3 single mums who stay near me who seem to have more money than i can dream of, out every weekend, always shopping and 2 of them manage to run cars.

i know the benefit system is needed by some people but it seems to be a complete joke these days, the wasters in this country are leading the life of reilly while the rest of us are left to slog our guts out to pay for there existence.

no doubt i will get flamed for this post but i have been out xmas shopping today trying to work to a budget then i stand next to these people at the school gates and hear about all the grants they are entitled to so they can buy xmas presents, one of them has even cut back the last 2 months and managed to save £800, it would take me bloody months to save that up.

ok rant over, deep down i am glad i am not one of these people and i do actually work for what i have but it still pisses me of.

3and exactly right !
To clarify...I AM A SINGLE MOTHER (DD age 6 and pregnant with no2)..H lying cheating scum got chucked out after getting his OW pregnant (yes both of us within a few months)...
He does not contribute AT ALL - in fact I am supporting him
I pay a fair chunk of my income for various insurances to cover me and my children if I was unable to work .....but I DO support the use of the benfit system for those who need it which is its original design not those who use it as a lifestyle choice and fail to see where the money comes from...

colditz · 09/11/2007 21:59

hmmm,I don't think I'm gormless, but then I suppose gormless people never do.

donnie · 09/11/2007 22:00

oh goody I love threads like this.

LuckyUnderpants · 09/11/2007 22:00

is it 3andnomore? i thought it was about the op assuming single mothers have high disposable income while claiming benefits, in particular 3 single mums in her area, which is just an assumption in any case.

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 22:00

well so fucking what if some people DO abuse it?

is it really more important than letting genuinely needy people go without shelter or food or clothes?

er hello, people are going without. look at how many pensioners struggle. more money should be thrown at them rather than the work shy!!!!

jofeb04 · 09/11/2007 22:00

Have to agree with you vacua. I prefer a small amount of people to abuse the system, then the government getting rid of it totally, and therefore those who do need it miss out.

BTW, I have claimed benefits before

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 22:00

Bec...so you think the country will benefit....how? I am not saying people should be sterilised because they are of less intelligence....but surely when there is the benfit trap and it becomes a lifestyle and so on, expectyations sink, etc...surely a country does not benefit from that...no one is saying to not allow people to have Kids...but why should people on benefits be allowed to have one kid after another , not because they want them, but they are a food ticket...

expatinscotland · 09/11/2007 22:01

oh, yes, kerry. let's just let children suffer because of their parents' situation.

pensioners don't have young children living with them most of the time.

vacua · 09/11/2007 22:01

people who see the benefits system as a lifestyle choice are to be pitied for their extraordinarily low expectations of themselves and of life and society in general

am sure some of them ARE scum but I bet the majority would willingly work if they could

Nightynight · 09/11/2007 22:01

Nobody has children becuase they are a food ticket. The benefit system allows only enough for the bare minimum.

expatinscotland · 09/11/2007 22:03

let's try to find some hard figures: how many people pop out kid after kid compared to how much is handed out in corporate welfare, tax benefits to teh rich, the royal family, etc.

Nightynight · 09/11/2007 22:03

oh macdoodle, I thought I was the only fool who supported her ex h...cut off the money supply now, woman!!

LuckyUnderpants · 09/11/2007 22:03

and how come the op hasnt come back and posted since the origional post? or have i missed her?

jofeb04 · 09/11/2007 22:03

3andnomore, how many people do you know live like that. I live in a very poor area (some of you know where abouts), and still, not many people get pregnant for a food ticket

colditz · 09/11/2007 22:03

They shouldn't be allowed to have more kids. We should introduce a DNA tracing method, to keep tabs on who is impregnating this poor gormless breedcows, and force them to join the army. that done, we should be able to swell our armed forces to a size capable of invading Poland keeping the peace anywhere.

macdoodle · 09/11/2007 22:03

Vacua of course it matters - it is not a few we are talking billions of pounds fraudulently claimed not to mention those who are "entitled legally" because they choose not to work.....
FWIW I am anti the royal family, the war and many other things I would rather my tax money wasn't spent on - would much rather it went on NHS/education/ the elderly/decent housing etc...but I have no choice in this matter

vacua · 09/11/2007 22:03

aren't pensioners, like anyone on means tested benefits, under some sort of guaranteed minimum income scheme?

am not on benefits myself but I'd rather be one of these 'workshy scroungers' than bitter and twisted

expatinscotland · 09/11/2007 22:04

she's too busy spying on single mums' bank accounts.

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 22:04

thats not the point i am trying to make expat.

many pensioners have only there pension to live on and struggle by with no heating etc. they cant go out and work to get more money, meanwhile some people (i know not all) are abusing the system and are able to fund a good lifestyle at other peoples expense while they could easily go out and work.

Nightynight · 09/11/2007 22:05

nobody has a good life on benefits, unless they are frauding somwhere. It just isnt possible on that income.

expatinscotland · 09/11/2007 22:06

plenty of children go without heating because their parents can't afford it.

comparing single parents on benefits to pensioners is a pointless argument.

macdoodle · 09/11/2007 22:06

oh good idea cold .... while we are at it what about compulsory contraception at puberty until you can pass a test proving you can actually be a parent (never mind support them)..TFIC before I get flamed though what a good idea

inthegutter · 09/11/2007 22:07

Aaah so juuules.... you're relying on the fact that most people WILL get off their arses and go to work to pay for those who choose to live on benefits as a lifestyle choice?? The question I asked was - what it they don't choose to get off their arses??

wabbit · 09/11/2007 22:07

I'm a single mum of two and the last 12 months that I spent on benefits left me sooooo in the red that now i'm working again it'll take me at least two years to scrape back into the black... and i'm not extravagant.. but do need to run a car...

to add insult to injury... now my ex P has been forced into paying maintenence, the DWP have sent me a bill of over £1000 in overpayments because of the arrears he's built up... i've not been paid this amount of back payments yet!!

It's certainly not the ball you're describing.

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 22:08

really Nighty...honestly live in Corby, your eyes will be opened...I was pretty naive unbtil moving here...being german and dh being in the army, so living in married quarters, etc...having the benefits of being part of the military community.....
whilst I can see kerry'sd p[oint here...because, yes we are often single parents, as such, and often without any family support due to where we are....
honestly I don't think those that need the systme get the best out of it, and that is through all those fraudulient people .....
and lucky maybe that wasn't the op but come on that is what the debate has moved into!
