I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

How can we talk about obesity and BMI etc being a key factor in all kinds of illness including Covid being serious, and then pile people up with 10 eggs each

Im assuming the feeling dehumanized, being uncomfortable in a mask , being gaslighted and psychologically abused by the Government , the goalpost moving , the feeling like a scruffy tramp, and knowing that others arent facing the same restrictions because #oneruleforthem is the perfect atmosphere and motivation for eating healthily and weight loss. Wow who knew Hmm

I sorted most the kids stuff over a month ago but wanted a farrero ball and a white chocolate egg (the white one usually dont sell out in my experiance) but I went to homebargains, iceland and ASDA earlier this week and all where completely stripped of all eggs.

I find in emergancies Tesco Express is best, I managed to get a farrero squiral to stand in for the missing ball and grabbed a lindor egg to replace the white one I couldnt get.

Strange thing is I couldnt get easter baskets anywhere, I never thought they would be the item to sell out but then the park was full of families doing make shift egg hunts so maybe thats it.

What I find odd is the complaints I saw on twitter of adults moaning about the lack of eggs are people buying for nieces/nephews, friends or workmates kid... since when was that a thing? maybe for nieces/nephews but in that situation those chocolate bunnies etc... would surely do I know thats more than I or my kids would ever expect off anyone.

If people are buying 6+ eggs to give to all their friends children etc... no wonder everywhere has ran out.

@WombatChocolate

I wonder what the average egg haul is for the typical child in the UK this year.

To be honest, if most have a couple less it won't be a disaster will it. The rising obesity crisis amongst children and the vast amount of packaging they create is actually quite a problem.

Does any individual really need more than 1 or 2 eggs?

And to be honest, if you have a hild who only receives from you and you didn't go until today or yesterday, well that was a hit daft wasn't it.

And I'm not buying the 'I couldn't afford it until today' stuff either. Eggs could be had for under £1 and were far cheaper a couple of weeks ago. It's not a big expense like buying Christmas dinner to get a couple of kids an egg each.

I think what annoys people is that they end up having to pay £5 or £10 for an egg when they wanted to spend £1. I'd be annoyed too if I had to fork out £10 for some chocolate that was the equivalent of one medium sized bar in a big box. But to be honest I'd be cross with myself.

Buy a box of Roses or a bag of jelly babies instead if needed.

Mine are only getting 1 (except my youngest who is getting a 2nd little cheap one because he LOVE eggs) my oldest much prefers the little malteaser sweets or mini eggs etc... so that became a this and usually they get some of those instead of multiple eggs, and the sweets bit never sell out and I usually add an easter game or book/DVD.

I learned when my oldest was around 3 that more than one egg is over kill and wont get eaten and even back then I only bought 2 or 3 (and my kids have never been gifted an egg by anyone else and my eldest is in his teens).

I use to get around 15 awful cheap eggs when little (easter birthday and uncreative gift givers) and they never got eaten unless they where left where the dog could reach lol I just dont see the need for loads.

Mummyshark2019 · 03/04/2021 21:13

I ways find they go really quickly. This year ingot them delivered one month in advance.

Lalanbaba · 03/04/2021 21:39

I got mines a couple of weeks ago, a set of small eggs for an egg hunt and some lint mini bunnies coz they were in offer. No big eggs coz my little one is 2 and I don't want to give her a big one. But no eggs or easter goodies for that matter left in the shops today.
I was hoping to get an extra cheap leg of lamb for the freezer.

EternalOptimist7 · 03/04/2021 21:44

It’s not the worst error no but you see it loads & it really annoys me! I may have had a few glasses of wine which make me a bit teasy! 🙂🙂

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 21:50

Poor people aren't the issue here, people leaving it this late are pure and simply disorganised

dividedwefall · 03/04/2021 21:52

Really shocked that this thread is longer than some of the civil liberties threads Grin

How much more can there be to say about the paucity of Easter eggs two days before Easter?

DynamoKev · 03/04/2021 21:54

@Flowers24

It isn't disorganised at all. It hasn't been necessary to shop stupidly early for seasonal stuff until recently. Shops are trying to force behaviour change.
DynamoKev · 03/04/2021 21:58

Shops are making a deliberate choice to have zero stock by Easter Friday. Evidently they prefer that to any possibility of having stuff left on Tuesday. It's not accidental.

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:04

It is disorganised!! It's not stupidity early to buy even a week before is it ? People leave it till Easter weekend then ask why not left?! Beggars belief!

Whatafool123 · 03/04/2021 22:05

My town is the same. Not one to be found anywhere by the time I went in. Well except some dark chocolate and mint ones I found in Lidl. I bought one so my 3yo would have something from the Easter Bunny, but as it turned out my Mum swapped it for a Smarties egg she had bought herself (bless her) so he will be happy.

I cannot believe I was so useless this year. I even sent DH out for little ones for an Easter egg hunt and STILL didn't go out for the big one until today.

Next year I will buy in January.

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2021 22:06

Why would they want any left the Tuesday after Easter? That makes no business sense.
They will already have something else to go in the seasonal aisle by that point.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 03/04/2021 22:06

Lidl. North West London / Herts border - bloody loads at 6.30 tonight.

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:08

Those who left it so late have hopefully learned a lesson!

tiredmum2468 · 03/04/2021 22:09

I've been to tesco tonight and not one left and no flowers either but I'd bought all my eggs ages ago that I needed and other Easter gifts aswell and ordered flowers about a month ago for the people I send flowers too.
I got caught out last year and had to put an SOS on Facebook and a couple of friends helped me out xx

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2021 22:12

Now is the time to get all the picnic and BBQ supplies in, don't leave it until August and complain you can't get any. Grin
Waitrose are doing a great range of acrylic 'glasses' and picnic rugs.

'Back to school' marketing always starts the minute the schools break up for Summer and you can buy your Christmas crackers as they come out in September, that's just the way it is.

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:16

Don't be ridiculous, no one is saying buy months in advance but a little common sense says buy a week or 2 before, surely!

MISSC86 · 03/04/2021 22:18

I actually have the Aurora here if you want it! Happy to post! X

pickaxer · 03/04/2021 22:23

We have failed at getting eggs for my parents, so seeing them tomorrow ( Easter Sunday.) Hmmm not sure how this will go down, especially as they sent us some via online delivery very expensive ones ages ago. I did look online, but want really anything that was right, that I could afford plus the delivery cost. And I know they chat with DH's parents, so I have to do the same for them, they get all jealous otherwise.

Benjispruce2 · 03/04/2021 22:24

Eggs for parents?

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:25

We get eggs for all our family Inc parents!

pickaxer · 03/04/2021 22:27

@Benjispruce2 I usually buy a big joint egg for each set of parents, mine & DH. But this year I haven't been going into the supermarket as I've been doing click & collect. Well my DH does the order and I do the collect. He did get the DC's some as I nagged him, but forgot the parents as did I.

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2021 22:27

I always get my parents an egg each. They do so much for us so I treat them. They don't expect it but they'd never buy themselves one so they wouldn't have an egg otherwise.
They give their grandchildren money so buy an egg if they wish, or not.

Benjispruce2 · 03/04/2021 22:27

This is genuinely new to me and I’m 50! Grin So glad I don’t have that going on in my family. What a headache.
