I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

OP posts:

@ChalkingsIsAGatewayCrime

I think you mean "non left".
No, they don't. None left. Perfectly correct. Hmm
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2021 21:34

Non left? Wtf?

dividedwefall · 02/04/2021 21:37

I'm guessing the "non left" must be a joke only the poster understands.

To take the time to correct a post that wasn't wrong with the wrong word (a foreign word no less) would be a joke in itself.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 02/04/2021 21:49

KitKat is Nestle. Wouldn't buy them if they were the last left.

Sure, but so are Quality Street and they shift in their thousands at Christmas!

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 02/04/2021 22:16

“Non left” is a reference to this pedantic but light hearted thread.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/04/2021 22:26

Same here... I tried Asda, Tesco, Lidl and Aldi. Nothing except Kinnerton ones which really don't taste good. No big eggs, no little eggs... Ah well, kids will have enough chocolate anyway as my dad was organised and sent some Easter bits weeks ago!

safariboot · 02/04/2021 22:40

I think it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. Yes, anyone looking for eggs now is leaving it late. On the other hand do people really want the eggs in the shops before fricking Valentine's Day?

It's like clothes. Good bloody luck buying a winter coat in February when you need one, the shops are full of summer stuff.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/04/2021 22:47

I got shouted at at work tonight because we had none left and the woman needed 9. She told me this in a "So what are you going to do about it" kind of way. I said I was sorry but we had sold out and she said that so had everywhere else....in the same tone of voice, making it clear it was now my problem to solve. When I explained that all our stock was on the shop floor (she clearly seemed to think we were hoarding eggs in the stock room just to spite her) she demanded to know how long we had been selling eggs for as it clearly wasnt long enough. I said (perfectly truthfully) that the first lot had gone out on Boxing day :o

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/04/2021 22:49

And I bought mine three weeks ago to take advantage of pay day double work discount!

Haha brilliant. What did she say to that?

My local Tesco had pallets right at the front door today. I really fancied some mini eggs as realised that I hadn’t had any this year. None left but I just said oh well and didn’t have a meltdown as it was kind of expected

Darbs76 · 02/04/2021 23:03

Happens every year the last few years. You need to get them earlier now

Blameitonme7000 · 02/04/2021 23:06

Last year in our local Tesco there was loads left week weeks after Easter. Today there is hardly any.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/04/2021 23:07

I got a sneery "Oh really" that made it plain she thought I was lying. She then stormed out saying she hoped I was happy that I had disappointed all those kids!

waddlemyway · 02/04/2021 23:10

Probably because the cocoa beans are still stuck in Ivory Coast, the aluminium foil in China, the purple paint for the foil in Japan and the paper mulch to make the box in the US.
Seriously, there’s a vast backlog of shipping containers worldwide that haven’t been processed in ports due to guess-what and it’s causing huge ripple effects on global shipping and deliveries. This won’t be the last time you ask yourself why you can’t get hold of [insert product here] in the next few months.

HaveringWavering · 02/04/2021 23:42

No way that the supplies would have been coming through in late March, the stocks of eggs were all manufactured long before that.

This.

Chocolate can easily be made months in advance and often are. Some will be starting the Halloween and Christmas stuff in summer.
A family member works in a related business and got treated to Christmas chocolates in July on a work trip to a factory.

SixDegrees · 02/04/2021 23:50

I popped to our local small Co-op this evening - about 9pm - and they still had big eggs left. Although reduced choice. Mainly Kit-Kat and Cadbury’s Oreos eggs. Plus a decent selection of mini eggs.

ArcheryAnnie · 03/04/2021 00:39

About three years ago my local Waitrose (which is where I go for my day-after-a -big-holiday sales hauls, as posh shops offer discounts like this waaaay bigger than cheaper shops) was absolutely heaving with all kinds of big fancy eggs for tuppence - we went nuts. They clearly have overhauled their buying algorithm (or whatever) as even before covid they since then have only bought as much as they can sell before easter, and generally have a mere handful of Lindt bunnies left afterwards.

This is what I don’t get. Buy your eggs early, don’t buy your eggs early. People can make their own choices, but don’t blame the shop staff if they sell out. That’s 100% on you. Why on earth would people think there are stacks of eggs in the warehouse when the shelves are empty. It makes no sense.
Ddot · 03/04/2021 06:13

Sense! Haha

chalktheblockwithglitterchalk · 03/04/2021 06:40

This thread has given me a giggle. We all know the true meaning of Easter is chocolate Easter eggs HmmGrin

It is to most people now.
InsanelyPregnantAndSore · 03/04/2021 07:04

I love threads like this they’re honestly why I joined mumsnet!

‘Why are there no Turkeys left on Christmas Eve? Angry
‘Why are there no Easter eggs left by the bank holiday weekend? Angry
‘I’m outraged at how busy the beach was on a hot sunny Saturday in school holidays Angry
‘Ridiculous how busy Asda is on a Saturday morning Angry
‘How dare people visit the (super popular and busy) natural beauty spot I knowingly moved Angry

I just adore the level of entitlement some people have that they should just be able to buy/do/go whatever and wherever they fancy without ever running into a problem.

Buy/order your stuff in advance
Don’t visit places at peak times
Don’t live in tourist spots

Halo
InsanelyPregnantAndSore · 03/04/2021 07:05

*I knowingly moved to

JustLyra · 03/04/2021 07:41

Buy/order your stuff in advance

You do realise a lot of people got paid this week, right?
Not everyone has the ability to just order in advance
