Easter eggs - none left

I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

I actually think Christmas Eve is the ideal time to put up a Christmas tree (but DH and I compromise on the weekend before Christmas). It makes me cringe to see people putting theirs up in November. But that's a whole other bitter MN argument...

Why? I get rid of my trees on boxing day or the day after. Sounds like a lot of faff and waste to have it for 3 days at most.

Plus I like to look forward to Christmas and enjoy the tree then. It makes s little sense to me to have it AFTER Christmas than it would to put it up for Easter.

I do realise Easter trees are not a thing though.. still a leap to keep the same tree until then Grin

Reflecting real life, I guess Sad

@Sparklingbrook

They have been selling Easter Eggs for months/weeks, it's Good Friday tomorrow with reduced trading hours, and the supermarkets are shut on Sunday so it's a bit like expecting to get a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve...
We always used to get our Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve and put it up and decorate it immediately we got home, when I was small, over 60 years ago! Then it would be taken down on 6th January, or Twelfth Night, the feast of the Epiphany. We'd have a choice when buying Easter eggs on Easter Saturday, too! Happy Easter!
YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 02/04/2021 14:05

Not a single person will have bought me an Easter egg (or anything). It won’t have occurred to anyone / there’s no one to buy me one anyway.

Least this way I can attribute my lack of chocolate eggs to The Great Easter Egg Drought.

Frownette · 02/04/2021 14:08

@BatleyTownswomensGuild I couldn't see any in Lidl just now - but I was tired and didn't scour every shelf.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 02/04/2021 14:47

I bought mine about 3 or 4 weeks ago . 4 large ones for £10 offer In Iceland’s and there were loads of variety . I bought large tubs of haribo for the stepgrandkids off Amazon about 2 weeks ago too
Try Iceland’s online , I don’t know if the 4 large for £10 is still on offer but it’s free delivery next day if you spend over £25 I think it is

halcyondays · 02/04/2021 14:56

You need to buy them at least a week before Good Friday to be sure. Earlier if you want to get a really good choice.

Shops don’t want to have loads left after Easter. I’ve noticed a few years ago there was a lot less Christmas stuff on sale after Christmas than there used to be.

4cats2kids · 02/04/2021 14:57

None left in B&M this morning but found some in Marks and Spencer.

Sorry to continue the detail, but this is clearly unreasonable. Christmas runs from 25th December until 5th January (12 days). Then you take it down on 6th January. By all means put the tree up early, that's fine, but I don't understand why so many people insist on taking them down the second Christmas gets underway.

Claiming that having a Christmas tree up at Christmas makes no sense to you suggests you've missed the point somewhere.

My dgc are getting deconstructed Easter eggs this year. There are 5 of them from 2 households, ranging in age from 6 to 17. I've just come back from the corner shop with 5 large bars of milk chocolate, one each, and a selection of Smarties, M&Ms, choc buttons, mini-bites etc etc. And a small box of Ferrero Rocha - 2 each and 2 for me. I shall hand them over in one big bag and they can divide them between them according to preference. I don't think there will be any complaints, and it will be easier for the parents of the little ones to ration them over the coming weeks.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2021 15:33

Deconstructed Easter eggs is one solution, or you could always go a step further and add a set of Easter egg moulds from somewhere like Hobbycraft although I bet they're sold out too and call it an Easter egg craft hamper.

ConstanceGracy · 02/04/2021 15:35

It’s because they sell things so far in advance now, it’s ridiculous.
I had the same issue last year but managed to get some on Tuesday .
Also remember a couple of Christmases ago I went to b&q for Christmas window lights a couple of days before Christmas Eve and the whole Christmas section was gone , same for Homebase .

RedGoldAndGreene · 02/04/2021 15:36

I bought mine last weekend as I saw that there was only 3 of the Lindt one that dd wanted and I wasn't sure if they'd have more delivered. I suspect that petrol stations will have some if your local big stores don't.

blackbettybramblejam · 02/04/2021 15:43

Yes! I have had to buy just a £1.25 cream egg Easter egg for the children because there was nothing else left in Sainsbury’s.
B&M had literally nothing and luckily Lidl had some Easter egg hunt small ones!

ScarletPower · 02/04/2021 15:45

Agree with the rest of the Posters about Morrisons. I've just bought 3 this morning from there, and they were on offer at 3 for 2. Clearly cant shift them

Larryslockdownlunch · 02/04/2021 15:45

It happens every year. They always sell out before Easter

Cocomarine · 02/04/2021 15:47

Most likely they’d always planned that promotion, knowing how many they’re likely to shift on that deal, and ordering accordingly, with funding support from the manufacturer. Don’t assume that an offer means they can’t shift them - usually it’s an opportunity to sell more! It’s yellow stickers that mean it’s an unplanned sell off.
AndromedaGal · 02/04/2021 15:53

My local Sainsbury's has lots of eggs. But they'd sold out of little eggs for Easter egg hunts and that was yesterday. Might try M&S

sansou · 02/04/2021 15:56

Waitrose had zilch. Checkout staff told me that M&S had sold out too and to my surprise, so had Hotel Chocolat.

kowari · 02/04/2021 15:58

I don't think it's ridiculous to buy them in Lent but a week before Good Friday. It's not a choice of either buying in January or on Maundy Thursday with nothing in between. Nothing wrong with preparing for a celebration in advance. Christmas puddings are traditionally made five weeks before Christmas aren't they? Preparation is hardly a modern invention.

stressbandit · 02/04/2021 16:07

I got mine and the kids I think about 2 months ago. The only trouble is I ate mine 3 times over and now don't have anywhere to replace mine again!

ivfbeenbusy · 02/04/2021 16:09

Well it's Not like the dates for Easter are agreed years in advance or anything......oh wait 🤣🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Why leave it to the last minute????? Eggs have been in The supermarket since January 1st!

ElderMillennial · 02/04/2021 16:35

The Morrison's 3 for 2 offer had been on for weeks

Frownette · 02/04/2021 16:39

That's quite funny Grin

I had already got some other things for Easter, cakes etc, so today I compromised with those gold little bunnies with a bell.

I'll be earlier with the easter eggs next year.

Powerof4 · 02/04/2021 16:45

Our Tesco Express still has loads - they’re all on top of the shelves where no one can reach them. But the other shops are sold out!
