You can just say 'my husband' or 'my daughter', you know, instead of bloody 'DH' or 'DD'. WE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU!

How refreshing would it be, just for once, to see someone here state 'my husband' instead of their 'DH'?!

It's such a sappy wet-lettuce thing to say anyway, plus half the bloody time there are threads about how someone's 'darling' husband has been found to be texting some other woman/cam girl/sex worker, etc

It's as though people here think nobody will be able to understand them unless they preface the person they're talking about with 'darling'. WHY?!

WHEN WILL WE STOP THE TWATTERY?

Its much easier to type dh when u have small people running about and your typing it one handed?

Camandmitch · 01/04/2021 17:24

Calm down, it's just shorthand

Bufferingkisses · 01/04/2021 17:25

No, it's accepted forum shorthand across most of the known Internet and is included in the mn "starter kit".

Are you having a bad day?

MoonCatcher · 01/04/2021 17:26

I don't get the use of DDad or Ddog or DCat - why?

Lockdownennui · 01/04/2021 17:26

It’s not because people are twee, it’s because it’s much easier to type, and just typing a single letter would be more ambiguous. It’s not just a MN thing, it exists elsewhere.

LittleRed53 · 01/04/2021 17:27

...even with predict text (even if predict text worked properly all the time) there's no way I cba to write out 'my husband' 'my daughter' etc every time.

And I say that as someone who hates, hates, hates textspeak.

Wanderlust20 · 01/04/2021 17:27

This made me laugh! I kinda have to agree but even I can't help myself slipping into the MN lingo now!

Rinoachicken · 01/04/2021 17:27

It’s just shorthand. It’s quicker to type.

Yes it can stand for Darling husband. But feel free to substitute for another more suitable word where required. I quite like Dickhead husband and Daft husband, where called for!

PradaBallbag · 01/04/2021 17:27

I'm with you. I refuse to use the acronyms. It's twattish. Always type out husband or daughter longhand.

VettiyaIruken · 01/04/2021 17:27

It's pretty standard internet shorthand, not a Mumsnet original.
And not everyone uses it. 🤷‍♀️

Neighneigh · 01/04/2021 17:27

I'd rather we focus on eliminating 'hubs' and 'hubby'

Contactlesslenses · 01/04/2021 17:28

I got very confused once on a thread with a DF.. friend? Fiancé? Father?

I’ve also seen DParents?

I love DDog though.. and DFish..!

I never got my starter kit! I feel robbed!
RunHobbitRun · 01/04/2021 17:29

DH/DD/DS all acceptable shorthand.

DDog/DCat poster is an arse.

This is better.

HollowTalk · 01/04/2021 17:30

I can't understand it either - and threads about "my ddog" drive me around the bend. If they're saying "my dog" why add the additional d?

And doesn't it autocorrect anyway? Are people really going back and changing it to ddog rather than the reverted dog?

If ever I see threads from here in newspapers I feel mortified when DH is explained as Darling Husband - makes us look like a shower of twats.

SummerHouse · 01/04/2021 17:31

Amen. It's stupid.

But does it not mean 'dear' not 'darling' ? Is this going to be like the time I discovered the spelling is Saturday??

Singlenotsingle · 01/04/2021 17:36

Yes summerhouse, it's 'dear'. And what's wrong with ddog? I like mumsnetspeak and no one's going to persuade me otherwise.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 01/04/2021 17:36

It's a Mumsnet thing. Always has been. It's a bit arrogant of you to pop up and say everyone else should change because you don't like it.

CatNamedEaster · 01/04/2021 17:36

I love it when I see someone talking about a racy conversation they had with their DF and I think 'wow your family really likes to overshare' then realise they mean friend and not father Grin.

Now I'm wondering if using a Grin means that I am also a twat.

MrsMackesy · 01/04/2021 17:38

Calm down, DOP.

You ok, DHun?

SummerHouse · 01/04/2021 17:38

makes us look like a shower of twats.

I found this unreasonably funny.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 01/04/2021 17:38

LTB

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 01/04/2021 17:39

It is of course very important not to look like a twat whilst being quoted in the Daily Mail.

Wouldn't do to let the side down.

MrsMackesy · 01/04/2021 17:39

Amen. It's stupid.

It is Darling or Dear, according to MNHQ.
