You can just say 'my husband' or 'my daughter', you know, instead of bloody 'DH' or 'DD'. WE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU!

How refreshing would it be, just for once, to see someone here state 'my husband' instead of their 'DH'?!

It's such a sappy wet-lettuce thing to say anyway, plus half the bloody time there are threads about how someone's 'darling' husband has been found to be texting some other woman/cam girl/sex worker, etc

It's as though people here think nobody will be able to understand them unless they preface the person they're talking about with 'darling'. WHY?!

WHEN WILL WE STOP THE TWATTERY?

OP posts:
WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 01/04/2021 18:26

@HazeyJaneII

I like the twattery. I like the D....H, D, S, Sis etc I don't even think about it being Dear or Darling, it's just D...

My favourite Acronym is STBXH because in my head it is Shitbag Ex Husband.

I always read that one as "shitty twating bastard ex husband" Grin
CloudFormations · 01/04/2021 18:26

Because I do most of my typing on mumsnet with one hand while I feed my baby, and ‘DH’ has seven fewer letters than ‘my husband’, and honestly every little helps.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 18:27

Well we haven't had a whiney thread about this for a while. it's reassuring that things are returning to normal. Grin

CloudFormations · 01/04/2021 18:28

@WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo @HazeyJaneII for me it’s ‘stupid bastard ex husband’ Grin

I can cope with the DH, DS, DD, DC stuff. What I find infuriating is the mystery of THE HOBBY.

DH goes to his hobby once a week.
I was tired because I’d come back from my hobby.
My friend and I do a hobby together.
I’m part of a hobby group.

Ffs why the cloak and dagger stuff? Why?? I simply don’t believe that so many people on MN do such weird hobbies that they’re would be immediately outed if they revealed it.
If anyone on this thread has done that, can you tell me why?

Ilovemaisie · 01/04/2021 18:29

I think it's all naff to be honest.
(Now I wait for someone to tell me that 'naff' is actually an abbreviation for something and I have been using it wrong for 40 years)

LostToucan · 01/04/2021 18:29

@diwrnachoflleyn

I CBA'd to write it out. If you don't like it, I don't give a fuck.
Surely it’s DILLIGAF?
Nanny0gg · 01/04/2021 18:29

@MehWithBellsOn

Quite a lot of posts here are rather lengthy. So there's enough time to write multiple paragraphs but those few extra seconds must be saved when it comes to mentioning the husband.

I know it's shorthand. Of course it's bloody shorthand. It's also very irritating.

Do it, don't do it. Up to you.

But I like it and I shall continue.

HollowTalk · 01/04/2021 18:29

I love a good thread about a STBEXH who has had an EA with an OW and the OP is going to LTB after getting her ducks in a row and telling him to FOTTFSOF.

But that's completely different from a thread about a DH who's cheating and behaving like an utter bastard.

SarahBellam · 01/04/2021 18:30

Christ Hmm

Doris86 · 01/04/2021 18:30

Have to agree, the use of DH, DD, etc on here annoys me too. Just write properly!

LucieStar · 01/04/2021 18:31

The one that always makes me laugh is "Ddog" or "Dcat". I get that DH is quicker and easier to type than "my husband". But Ddog? You're adding an extra letter - how is that an abbreviation?! HmmGrin

HollowTalk · 01/04/2021 18:31

I've just done a search on here for "dcat" - I don't think it can belong to any other word, can it? There are over 500 instances. I despair.

LizzieVereker · 01/04/2021 18:31

I’ve been here a long time, I like the acronyms, they make me smile and make me feel part of the tribe. I’m lonely in real life. Sorry if the acronyms annoy you.

LucieStar · 01/04/2021 18:32

What really REALLY boils my piss though (as a number of posters have mentioned... ) is DCAT! .... and DDOG! D- FUCKING - CAT and D - FUCKING DOG!!! That's a whole new level of batshittery. Just put cat or dog you fucking weirdo!

Ahh I'm not alone then. Grin

No, shan't. I don't want to and you can't make me.
wandatotherescue · 01/04/2021 18:33

I always thought the 'D' meant da, like the huband shortened to da husband shortened to DH Shock

MimiDaisy11 · 01/04/2021 18:35

I thought that when I started but I'm used to it now but sometimes it takes a moment to understand when there are longer ones like DSSIL

HollowTalk · 01/04/2021 18:37

H Husband
W Wife
P Partner
XP or XH or XW - self explanatory
C Child (if you want to be non-specific)
S Son
D Daughter
M Mum
D Dad
F Friend

Is there any reason why we don't just use the above?

OldEvilOwl · 01/04/2021 18:38

Yabu hth 😂

Twiglets1 · 01/04/2021 18:39

You can exclude men/non mums if you want but it's quite discriminatory to exclude everyone who isn't a "mum" don't you think @MrsMackesy @gamerchick - it really is time to update the title though I get that you don't like change because I don't either.

GreenTeaPingPong · 01/04/2021 18:39

I kind of agree, although I've got used to it over the too many years.

The most awkward is DCs plural for 'children', which if you typed it out in full would be 'darling childs'. Er no, the plural of child is children, not childs.

And the stupidly ambiguous DF which can mean friend or father. Or BF which can mean boyfriend or best friend.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 18:40

I’d rather see the back of ‘wow. just wow’

Which is mumsnet shorthand for I’ve taken such a fuckin huge outraged intake of breath that my drawers have been sooked up my arse at the speed of sound. They then hit my throat that quick that they shook my pearls off their string.

Catsarse mouth optional (but would be handy if only to stop said drawers shooting out their mouth and strikinga passer by)

And breathe Grin

Funko · 01/04/2021 18:40

It used to infuriate me too, but I'm over it now.

What really gives me the irrational rage is when someone comes in with their ' me.. (F, 25) and my partner (M, 27) blah blah...'

THIS IS NOT REDDIT!

Grin
