You can just say 'my husband' or 'my daughter', you know, instead of bloody 'DH' or 'DD'. WE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU!

How refreshing would it be, just for once, to see someone here state 'my husband' instead of their 'DH'?!

It's such a sappy wet-lettuce thing to say anyway, plus half the bloody time there are threads about how someone's 'darling' husband has been found to be texting some other woman/cam girl/sex worker, etc

It's as though people here think nobody will be able to understand them unless they preface the person they're talking about with 'darling'. WHY?!

WHEN WILL WE STOP THE TWATTERY?

OP posts:
thereisonlyoneofme · 02/04/2021 13:39

I still trying to work out what NRP is from another post

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/04/2021 13:44

Think it is non-resident parent thereisonlyoneforme

YoniAndGuy · 02/04/2021 13:45

It's shorter. The end.

ButIcantsitonleather · 02/04/2021 13:55

I really hate the addition of ‘D’ in front of all the initials. I find it really stupid. I haven’t used it ever. I might occasionally put H or ILs, but I tend to longhand it.

Plus the ‘D’ whoever the poster is talking about, normally sound like twats anyway, so hardly ‘dear’.

MrsMackesy · 02/04/2021 14:22

@Twiglets1

You can exclude men/non mums if you want but it's quite discriminatory to exclude everyone who isn't a "mum" don't you think *@MrsMackesy* *@gamerchick* - it really is time to update the title though I get that you don't like change because I don't either.
I had to come back on this because what I actually said was that everyone is welcome except the hairy of hand ie trolls. I'm not sure how you get from that to I want 'to exclude everyone who isn't a mum', so please don't misrepresent me Twiglets1. Also, I quite like change, so you're wrong there as well. The title doesn't need updating because being a mum is not outdated and we don't want or deserve to be written out of the past, present or future, thank you.

I suspect I've got tights older than you, never mind the anti-discriminatory t-shirt.

Come to think, I find the use of 'Dear' in formal letters to people who may be complete strangers or vague acquaintances pretty weird. By comparison, 'D' in relation to your close family isn't so bad, is it?

Cissyandflora · 02/04/2021 14:39

I do agree. So twee. I can’t bring myself to use it much as I want mumsnet to like me.

Anordinarymum · 02/04/2021 14:42

I write what I like and I like what I write. No DH for me. It's kind of creepy and untrue.

Nobody sensible judges posts by use, or not, of common acronyms.
TastefulLiving · 02/04/2021 14:45

I like DWhatever.

Abitofalark · 02/04/2021 21:16

Yes it's twee and clubby. I can just about cope with the DH, DC etc but there are too many abbreviated forms on mumsnet which go beyond the husband, children and family.

What is DFW? It's in the title of a thread on the feminism chat forum...Eddie Izzard is also named in the title.
Things keep coming into my mind such as Don't Forget to Wash, which I doubt are what is meant.

What does 'clubby' mean?
Abitofalark · 02/04/2021 21:26

It's like a means of developing the sense or feeling of a social group or club.

Time2b33 · 02/04/2021 21:27

I totally agree! Considering mumsnet's unfluffy reputation it's incredibly twee!

The worst is DDog or DCat 🤣

Livelovebehappy · 02/04/2021 21:29

Some people do say husband. Some people don’t. It’s not the end of the world either way.

Bloodypunkrockers · 02/04/2021 21:29

I like it

Better than the fucking awful hubby, hubs or variations thereof

A thread earlier had hun and a couple of
Hubbies. I thought my head would explode

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 02/04/2021 21:33

Surely you read the D ironically where the H is not being H?

All forums use acronyms.

RTFT is a good one, as is CF, although LTB should probably have been copyrighted...

You can tell when posters are in the habit of frequenting other parenting forums when they refer to DC as LO.

The only problematic ones are, as others have already said, where abbreviations could be two or more different long forms - friend or father or fiance? Parent or partner? Two sons or one step son?

Oh like being part of something and joining in? Sounds good to me in that case.
UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 02/04/2021 21:34

*not being D... or not behaving as an H should I guess.

Yes I had no idea what LO was. Grin
DaphneDuBois · 02/04/2021 21:41

Only absolute wazzocks say DDog and DHamster. It’s not even shorthand. Just sounds utterly stupid.

YoniAndGuy · 02/04/2021 22:50

I love DHamster though.

It takes so long to type out, it’s so unashamed in its efforts to make the hamster MATTER.

Yes. General Practitioner or GrandParent? Much potential hilarity.
QuiteContraryMarie · 02/04/2021 22:55

If ever I read a post and the OP has written Ddog or DCat, I don’t bother reading further.

malificent7 · 02/04/2021 22:57

R u ok op?!
