The Thick of It was amazing!

Gavin and Stacey is funny in a cute heartwarming way but not PMSL

Liked Alan P

Apparently I loved Red Dwarf as a toddler!

Black books?

SameToo · 29/03/2021 23:10

Not a big fan of Ricky Gervais. I didnโ€™t like the office, I did really like Extras but mostly for Stephen Merchant and Barry off eastenders Grin Did not like Afterlife.

ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel · 29/03/2021 23:11

Currently rewatching Mork and Mindy on YouTube.

Absolutely transcendent. So gentle and so mesmerising.

spaceghetto · 29/03/2021 23:16

I liked the Office but Extras is better.

Father Ted never fails. Neither does Fawlty Towers.

Growing up, I loved Only Fools and Horses. It's years since I watched and it must re-watch.

I've recently enjoyed Modern Family and Schitt's Creek.

Motherland and Derry Girls are both good.

LittleStepsDaily · 29/03/2021 23:30

Never got The Office but I do like that style of comedy in general

Father Ted
This Country
Superstore

But nothing where there are weird creepy vibes because I just feel too ick about it and it takes away all funniness for me

MinnieMous3 · 30/03/2021 00:17

What creepy vibes?

FaceyRomford · 30/03/2021 00:23

Never really thought it that funny TBH. Lots better. YABU.

NiceGerbil · 30/03/2021 00:27

Oh father Ted is proper genius.

Just watched it all again. Brilliant

CirqueDeMorgue · 30/03/2021 00:27

No one has mentioned The Mighty Boosh for brilliant UK comedy. I bloody love that Wink

40somethingJBJ · 30/03/2021 00:31

Not a fan of The Office at all, but Ricky Gervais really isnโ€™t my cup of tea. I love Ab Fab, Vicar of Dibley, Dinnerladies, Fawlty Towers, Father Ted... also agree with Ghosts which was fabulous!

BackforGood · 30/03/2021 00:32

At the time it came out, The Office had some incredibly funny moments, but a lot of it was 'okay' or even meh.

Oddly, I started to watch an episode last week, and it made me feel really uncomfortable and I turned it off. I know the character was supposed to be creepy, but having spent the last 18months trying to support a young woman who works in a sexist environment, I look at the whole scenario very, very differently.

OTOH, I watched an episode of 'Yes Minister' tonight, and quite frankly it could have been written whilst Brexit was going on. Superb, well written, well acted, very well observed comedy that still made me really laugh.

I could list dozens upon dozens of programmes funnier than The Office - including (as many have said) 'Extras'

nursejekyll · 30/03/2021 00:34

Like The Office, Extras, People just do nothing etc
Peep Show is funniest IMO - laugh out loud funny

MinnieMous3 · 30/03/2021 00:35

Oddly enough nobody has mentioned Miranda...

AnnaFiveTowns · 30/03/2021 00:46

Yanbu, OP. I love comedy and nothing is as funny as The Office. Ricky Gervais is just genius in it. Whenever Im fed up I'll just watch a couple of episodes.

AnnaFiveTowns · 30/03/2021 00:50

Also Rising Damp was very good. And more recently Fleabag.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 30/03/2021 00:53

God yes it's excellent and has aged well IMO.

The follow up film was great too, and although this video wasn't in the film (only a part of the song which David Brent releases as a single IIRC) it has me in hysterics every time. Classic David Brent

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 30/03/2021 00:59

The sexist tall character in The Office - Finchey? - is so incredibly accurate it's chilling. We all know a Finchey. But we are supposed to hate him!! And the moment where David tells him to fuck off was the gold - two season and a Christmas Special of being a twat and someone finally stood up to him.

I don't think it's meant to be feel good, but it is realistic. It's very grim in many ways

Teentitansonloop · 30/03/2021 01:00

The UK Office is just a sublime piece of writing and acting, Father Ted and Peep Show too. They only come along once in a blue moon, but I hope there are more of it's quality that come along in my lifetime. (Prays to the God of comedy).

ContractClockAndCrucible · 30/03/2021 01:15

I did enjoy The Office but never bought the boxset, so obviously didn't love it. Boxsets I own include Father Ted, Alan Partridge, Black Adder, The New Statesman (love Rick Mayall), Black Books, Third Rock From the Sun and Fawlty Towers. Can't deny that The Office was groundbreaking in its day however.

ContentsMayBeHot · 30/03/2021 01:17

If we can widen to animated shows, Bojack Horseman is the best comedy (well, tragicomedy) of the past 10 years or so.

If memory serves, Ricky Gervais guest stars as a hedgehog at some point.

This. I watched the dance class episode the other day and laughed all the way through. Best UK show.
subbysammiexoxo · 30/03/2021 01:28

Weird as I'm watching it right now and yes I'm obsessed second closest to me was modern family or big bang theory but the office US is hands down the best
