I would have said it's a bit excessive, but not all-day-hangover excessive.

Aibu to think this???

Would you expect to vomit all day after drinking this much?

I only seem to get sick if I mix red wine with dairy products, eg cheese or something creamy. Results are sometimes, er, spectacular. Also seems like there's more going out than went in 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsBungle · 28/03/2021 15:39

I’d find it difficult to function the next day with a banging headache if I drank that much red wine. I could drink as much as 10 (125ml) Prosecco’s though on a night out and not be Ill the next day Blush

Longdistance · 28/03/2021 15:39

Was it dodgy prawns?

Parky04 · 28/03/2021 15:41

@Tinydinosaur

Wine makes me sick, not because of the alcohol though, its just gross.
Same with me. Wine is vile.
ismiseeire · 28/03/2021 15:43

I find that if the thoughts of steak, now make you want to hurl, it was probably the food.
If the thoughts of a glass of red, now make you want to hurl, it was probably the wine.

Over the years, I've become increasingly intolerant of several types of alcohol, so now only drink gin. Red wine gave me an awful sickening the last time I drank it, so that's ruled out for me.

AiryFairyMum · 28/03/2021 15:43

Low carb can do that to you - it made me feel very drunk very quickly on the rare occasions I mixed it with booze!

Trytrytryasimight · 28/03/2021 15:43

Now I'm old I take an antihistamine and a reflux inhibitor when I go to bed to make sure I'm not having all day sickness hangovers over 2 thirds of a bottle

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 28/03/2021 15:44

In my case perhaps, as I have had no alcohol since Christmas and no wine since 2003.

RowanAlong · 28/03/2021 15:45

Could it be the sulphites in the wine, rather than the alcohol? Does it only happen with wine?

Xmasbaby11 · 28/03/2021 15:47

I used to be able to drink a bottle of red with no ill effects! These days (I'm 45 now), more than one glass gives me a headache unless I'm very careful to have plenty of water and a big meal which would include carbs.

I can drink gin, prosecco and other drinks much more easily but I prefer red wine! As others have said, it's probably to do with the tannins and additive.

ImpatiensI · 28/03/2021 15:47

Has it gorn orf?

belwiz · 28/03/2021 15:47

I get this sometimes if i have a couple of glasses of red wine in the days before my period is due.... a raging hangover after a half bottle or less. As I hit mid-40s my tolerance is def
much lower and the headaches get worse.

NothingIsWrong · 28/03/2021 15:48

Ran 8km this morning after that much last night. All day vomiting seems a big reaction

DIshedUp · 28/03/2021 15:52

After a bottle Id probably feel a bit grotty the next day, but certainly not sick

I wouldn't expect to feel anything the next day on that. Maybe a bit tired but thats it. I've never been sick off 2/3 bottle wine.

I wouldn't really expect to be sick the next day unless I'd felt very drunk the night before. So I would think there's something else going on tbh OP, maybe you ate something off or something about the wine disagreed with you. But I wouldn't think that's a reaction to the alcohol

sunflowersandbuttercups · 28/03/2021 15:52

It depends on loads of things.

I don't react well to red wine and it makes me feel dreadful. I don't think I'd be vomiting all day but I would feel pretty rough.

Bluesheep8 · 28/03/2021 15:56

I would assume I had food poisoning rather than being hungover

Yep, me too. I'd assume it was something I ate. I had awful food poisoning after eating pre bagged salad once, I was ill for days Envy

littleloopylou · 28/03/2021 15:57

@TanteRose I'm 40 so...maybe?

OP posts:
littleloopylou · 28/03/2021 15:59

@ismiseeire the idea of red wine and steak both make me want to hurl! Salad too, actually, even though I normally love it

jessstan2 · 28/03/2021 15:59

@PumpkinPie2016

I guess it depends on the individual. Some people have a higher alcohol tolerance than others.

If I drank that amount of red wine to myself, I'd feel ill probably most of the day after Blush

One small glass is about my limit these days!

Yes, i've had a hangover on half a glass.
MrsJBaptiste · 28/03/2021 16:00

I can have a bottle of prosecco or white wine and be fine the next day. However although I don't drink red wine, I know friends are much more likely to feel rough the next day after a bottle of red rather than white wine.

AcrossthePond55 · 28/03/2021 16:00

I love a good red wine (Malbec, mmmm) but I've found that if I'm not 'careful' about how I drink it I feel horrible the next day. If I 'space out' a couple of glasses with a meal and maybe a glass afterwards I'm fine. But if I slam it or drink with no or little food I really pay for it the next day, pretty much all day. Supposedly it's the tannins. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Eckhart · 28/03/2021 16:01

It's obviously a surprise to you, OP (not a very nice one!), so presumably you would ordinarily be ok with drinking that amount?

Is it a type of wine you've drunk the same amount of on other occasions and been fine?

BashfulClam · 28/03/2021 16:01

I bring get hangovers abc rarely throw up unless it’s the same night. My Paternal grandmother, Dad and his brother were all alcoholics and I seem to have their alcohol tolerance. My nun abc brother their up continuously the day after drinking and suffer massively.

DispensingShitAdviceSince2002 · 28/03/2021 16:01

OP, I think the question is whether it's normal for you.

I could easily drink that much with no ill effects - so if I drank that much and spent all day being sick, I'd assume it was a coincidence that I had had wine.

I'm well into perimenopause, and it hasn't made any difference to my wine consumption.

bananamonkey · 28/03/2021 16:02

Same @Matilda15 I was throwing up till the afternoon and could barely move all day, worst hangover I’ve ever had Blush

Had you given blood? That always makes a hangover worse.
