To not like Rachel from Friends anymore? (Light hearted)

Inspired by the Carrie Bradshaw thread from a little while ago. I've recently been watching my Friends dvd boxset and I really don't like Rachel anymore. She's petty, jealous and vindictive especially to Ross. She sabotaged his relationships and seems to go out of her way to get one over on him or humiliate him in some way. Anyone else agree or am I about to get a tsunami of hatred from Rachel fans 🤣🤣

Ross was 100% 3B (apartment 3B), not freebie!

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 27/11/2021 07:27

And here was me thinking I was being mean all these years in thinking that Phoebe was horrible. She said so many downright nasty things to her so called friends. Not a nice character at all. Ross irritated me at the time, but now I find him hilarious.

I never really liked Rachel. Why was she treated a so wonderful when she got the job at Central Perk and stopped living off daddy's money? Her character was 27! Also how did she land the executive jobs when she never gave the impression of being particularly educated and or hard working.

SkylarFerris · 27/11/2021 08:22

In addition to Friend and Scrubs ageing badly, Fresh Prince has aged very badly.
Will is sex obsessed and very misogynistic. Carlton is mean and spiteful. Hilary… we’ll don’t let me get started on her.

Lillith111 · 27/11/2021 15:16

Ross was the worst behaved. He was a controlling dick. He should have trusted her with Mark. Even if he did want to sleep with her why didn't he trust Rachel and have to sabotage his career? He cheated on her in my opinion with the copy girl. He LIED to Rachel about getting an annulment because he didn't want a thrird divorce! How fucked is that. He enforced gender roles with the male nanny. He never stood up for Monica to their parents or shutdown their favouritism. He blamed pot on chandler.

The show that's aged worse in my eyes (and it's not even old) is the big bang theory. I enjoy it but as a woman (who's in stem) it's so messed up. The guys constantly harrass women and make then uncomfortable. The episode where Howard harrasses Penny and she shuts him down and he gets upset and SHE APOLOGISIES?!? Leonard is massively entitled and judgemental. The women in STEM in the show are portrayed badly (Leslie Winkle) and the sexism is never addressed

MasterBeth · 27/11/2021 19:38

It’s not real.

FlowerFlour · 27/11/2021 20:29

Oh no I'm gutted that Scrubs doesn't stand up to scrutiny anymore - I used to love it. Dr Cox was hilarious and I so empathised with Eliott's anxiety and perfectionism.

I watched Sex and the City recently, having loved it in my youth. It has not aged well AT ALL. Carrie is a hideous person, Charlotte is a desperado, most of the men are knobs and the puns DEAR GOD THE PUNS, make me want to claw my own eyes out.

Yeah, I agree with you about SaTC...it has aged like a wine gone rancid!🍷

And I absolutely loved it back in the day...
Ricky Gervais also hates puns and says it 'should be short for punch him in the mouth!'

inkworks273 · 28/11/2021 09:33

I LOVE Friends. I've loved it since I was 8 and I still watch it all the time. It's my comfort show and I like to have it on in the background. It's also dh and I's go to show when we don't want to make a decision on what to watch. I still find it hilarious but there are definite moments when I'll say "Oh you wouldn't get away with saying that now!"

phishy · 28/11/2021 09:59

Friends has aged very badly for me, used to love it in the 90s but now have to change the channel as soon as it comes on, cannot stand it.

For me, the female order of favouritism was MPR.

Marianne1234 · 28/11/2021 10:05

What surprises me about friends just now is the merchandise available for kids.

My eldest is 7. There are Friends-themed clothes/pjs etc in her size in Asda and places like that. As a result she is dead keen to watch it. She’s absolutely not watching it it’s not even nearly suitable for a 7 year old!

phishy · 28/11/2021 10:13

And the merchandise is all so naff. Who wants a central perk t-shirt in 2021?!

RandomDent · 28/11/2021 10:16
@sammylady37 I always thought they were calling him freebie as in freeloader but I could be wrong as 3B makes more sense! Feeling a bit foolish now 🤣
I think it’s also a reference to a character he played in NYPD Blue - his apartment number was 4B and that’s what they called him.

RandomDent · 28/11/2021 10:17

My favourite is Joey - but it’s heavily influenced by MLB’s fabulous performance in Episodes.

flopjustwantscoffee · 28/11/2021 11:55

To be fair...
A show about emotionally secure, well balanced adults interacting with each other/addressing conflict in consistently respectful and emotionally healthy ways would not be very funny.

Wozers. You do know it wasn't real don't you? Are you suffering frost traumatic Friends disorder?

I'll never for the life of me understand people who come on threads about fiction or TV shows and be all condescending and "you know it's not real". This is a thread about friends characters. If you're not interested in that then... Walk away? Don't you have anything better to do than put people down???
Kendoddsdadsdogsdadsdead · 28/11/2021 14:02

I'm not putting anyone down ffs 🤣🤣. I'm just saying the vitriol in the post was a bit ott considering it was a light hearted comedy show.

Gerlais · 28/11/2021 14:06

Susan made me want to smash the TV to pieces.

BurntO · 28/11/2021 14:34

Rachel has the most impressive character growth.

Ross was toxic and will never change change.

WhenSepEnds · 28/11/2021 15:00

@orpah

i still like her. I DESPISE Phoebe though, she’s a fucking bitch
Really? Can I ask why? I quite like her!
ItsSunnyOutside · 28/11/2021 15:27

My Dh and I have started watching Friends again and were having this conversation a few nights ago!

Dh and I both agreed that Chandlar is actually pretty annoying, the way he always exaggerates movements and jerks forward.

Monica is OK but I don't like her character when she's over competitive.

My fave characters are Rachel, Joey and Ross.

Ross is mopey and acts abit like a sad puppy but he is funny, I laugh the most at his scenes.

Phoebe is not as funny as I used to find her and actually abit of a horrible person at times!

RaginaPhalange · 28/11/2021 17:30

They all have their flaws tbh.

Joey is definitely my favourite. I think he's hilarious and he's probably the most loyal. Love his 'weird' eye thing and when he punches Ross in Central perk.

Phoebe was fierce because she had to be, she had to teach herself a lot from being on the streets. She could be a good friend but maybe not so much to Monica.

Ross another favourite of mine. Mostly because David Schwimmer plays the part so well. He has the funniest things happen to him. I felt really sorry for him when Carol told him she was pregnant and Susan was more involved in the decision making which she really shouldn't have been.

Rachel was funny but she only thought of herself when it came to her relationship with Ross. Her character was the only one to really grow.

Monica can not stand her most of the time. Liked her a little bit more when she got together with Chandler.

Chandler I love how sarcastic he was but that was about it.

DancinOnTheCeiling · 28/11/2021 18:35

Ross and Monica dancing the ROUTINE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
