Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 27/03/2021 08:25

op i suggest you knock on their door and ask why they arent following the rules!

Ohnomoreno · 27/03/2021 08:25

You're just disappointed your vaguely valid excuse for hating holidaymakers in a holiday town is disappearing.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:25

@RevolvingPivot

Op if you posted you were going to your second home this weekend I think the replies would be different.

@Weenurse

I don’t understand, here in Australia we are hearing about how the UK should be getting a third wave sometime soon, why are people travelling?
Because they're fucking idiots who think they know better than the scientists, who have come up with a plan to open up with the least risk of ending up in the shit again.

As I e said before I love it when the tourists come - the town comes alive.

Just when they are allowed to - that's all.

I understand, OP. I’m surprised many don’t

I was listening to a radio station yesterday and they were doing shoutouts for birthdays at drive time. One was for “Johnny’s” 7th “and nan, auntie and cousin Lou can’t wait to see you after school”. I did a double-take, when has this become allowed?!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/03/2021 08:27

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

It's 2 days until they're officially allowed there. I can't see how 48 hours is going to make any difference
@sparepantsandtoothbrush

No it's not!

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:27
@oohmamama it's my home, my legal property in law, I can go there as I please.

I have been 100% wfh (with lone site inspections) since returning from mat leave and I have two young children who are not currently using childcare. We have our shopping delivered from local independents and a diesel tank at home (farmers) - this is the way I've lived long before covid was a thing.

I might not be following the covid laws but if they are to prevent the spread of coronavirus then I am 100% satisfied that my actions are sensible. I don't need my decisions bolstering by someone who doesn't agree with me.

Imagine living in a world where you would consider reporting your neighbours for simply wanting to see their family.
Where did I say I was considering reporting them?

@GoWalkabout

Chile are ahead of us on 1st and 2nd vaccines and their cases and deaths are rising currently. We need to play this cautiously or we will blow our presumed advantage.
You need to look a bit deeper. It's looks like they started from about zero vaccinations 6 weeks ago so their issue is that it was a little too late. You are comparing apples and pears.
Theluggage15 · 27/03/2021 08:28

But it’s not about them breaking the rules is it? You clearly hate tourists coming to your town or you wouldn’t have said ‘it’s started’ would you? Maybe just get on with your own clearly very virtuous life.

sauvignonblancplz · 27/03/2021 08:28

@oohmamama

^It might work for you but you're breaking the law.

It doesn't mean your a bad person or a 'heartless bitch' but in my eyes your actions are selfish and illegal.

If you're fine with it - carry on.^

It’s you’re did you say you were a teacher?
You’ve been waiting all year to have your moment to complain, the jealousy is seeping from you.

ImpatiensI · 27/03/2021 08:28

@OverTheRubicon that's very true, second home ownership has damaged a lot of these places.

That said, I think OP should mind your biz. We were told vaccination was a game changer but people still can't go and see their Nan?

I meant the rule breakers, not the tourists.

@Ohcomeonitsrubbish the "stay at home" law ends on Monday, so you can go for a day trip without breaking the law. The "stay local" is just guidance from Monday and not legally enforceable.

I've already identified I've not been following these but I'm just answering your question. ☺️

Happytentoes · 27/03/2021 08:29

The government has issued ‘strong guidance’ from March 29th and asked people to not stay at second homes in England, but from March 29 it is not illegal.

ThursdayLastWeek · 27/03/2021 08:29

This is quite a funny contrast to the thread where a poster said she wished she could go to her second hime just a few weeks ago.

I’m never especially happy to see second home owners (as a group) TBH, so this year won’t be much different Grin.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/03/2021 08:30

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

That's where it's come from 🙄
People hunting for accidental loopholes. Brilliant. Utter fuckwits.
KnowlWay · 27/03/2021 08:30

Pathetic backlash on here.

It’s illegal. Even if it was in an Essex ghetto.

Plumedenom · 27/03/2021 08:30

People saying two or three weeks don't make a difference should go and look at the case numbers two or three weeks ago. I agree with the OP. Let's stick to the dates, that have been calculated on statistical data to keep us all safe. These are not arbitrary measures, they have been planned to keep numbers as low as possible. We all want to travel and stay over at people's houses. Let's try and be patient for a few weeks longer and not ruin everything at the last hurdle again.

ThursdayLastWeek · 27/03/2021 08:30

And the ‘It’s started...' is just a term most people who live in a destination recognise.

I don't understand what I'm jealous of?

Apologies for the mistake, we are allowed to make them on Mumsnet, I believe?!

What are the wannabe-stasi going to do to pass the time once the pandemic is finished and we're all flocking brazenly to their beautiful south-west seaside towns?

They need another hobby. I suggest something which keeps them firmly indoors, well away from the rest of us.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/03/2021 08:32

We’ve had our 3rd wave already, after Xmas. Other European countries, EU or non, the virus travels, are only now going through it. But they were still gallivanting a few weeks ago, plus the vaccination programme in the UK has a very good uptake and fast pace.

SerendipityJane · 27/03/2021 08:32

Maybe they were going for an eye test ?

Plumedenom · 27/03/2021 08:32

And people having a go at the Australian poster....Boris Johnson said himself that "the third wave will inevitably wash up on our shores", i.e. we can expect cases to rise as a result of the European third wave. In other words, stick to the plan and don't all squish up in a house in Cornwall just yet.
