Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

Report them op, I live in a tourist village too and cases are relatively low. I'm dreading the rambles coming back and bringing their diseases.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/03/2021 08:17

@Plates

Wait for what? It's the holidays 2 days won't make a difference.
2 days?.

Visiting inside & holidays in England are WEEKS away, not 2 days.

In 2 days we can meet others OUTSIDE (6 people or 2 households)

NOT before April 12th for self contained accommodation.

Pootle40 · 27/03/2021 08:17

@Weenurse

I don’t understand, here in Australia we are hearing about how the UK should be getting a third wave sometime soon, why are people travelling?
Don't believe everything you read. We do have 55% of the population vaccinated.
DropDTuning · 27/03/2021 08:18

You were pissed off that you could only send your children into school two days a week at the height of the second wave because you're not a key worker.

I don't really think you're in any position to lecture anyone else.

Mum198000 · 27/03/2021 08:18

I’m with you OP. It’s against the law still and whether you agree with those laws or not, it’s not allowed yet. 2 days, 2 months doesn’t matter. It’s the law we don’t get to pick and choose what we follow. They could have waited 2 days. It’s this disregard for the rules because everyone is fed up with it that causes problems.

EileenGC · 27/03/2021 08:18

I'm just concerned about people breaking the rules because it matters to me.

Why? You must have lots of free time to get worked up about this.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:18
@oohmamama it's been working for me since 23rd March 2020? And I'm not the heartless bitch whinging on a forum about some elderly granny who's most likely been vaccinated having her family stay after what has probably been a long and solitary winter.

I'm always baffled at the selfishness of these covid police type tossers but you really are the stereotype of "SW yocal on MN".
It might work for you but you're breaking the law.

It doesn't mean your a bad person or a 'heartless bitch' but in my eyes your actions are selfish and illegal.

If you're fine with it - carry on.

OP posts:
PandaFluff · 27/03/2021 08:18

@DumplingsAndStew we have families in support bubbles with elderly parents in the cities too. Just because it's not pretty doesn't mean families haven't taken the chance to visit their elderly relatives with grandchilden and support them.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/03/2021 08:18

@Finfintytint

Good for them.
Yeah. Good for them, let's get spreading Covid around as much as possible, then we can all enjoy another wave & more closing of schools & other restrictions.
NightCzar · 27/03/2021 08:18

Here in Australia, we're hearing nothing of the sort. Perhaps Europe, but the AU media is only positive about the UK.

I'm not sure being concerned about coronavirus means I must have lots of time on my hands?!

Have you followed every rule to the letter OP. EVERY ONE? Halo

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/03/2021 08:20

@Dontforgetyourbrolly

Oh here we go . No one is allowed to visit anyone else's town especially " beautiful seaside towns in the sw" They are probably not supposed to visit their gran atm but as from monday I believe people are allowed to move around more ? Ans 11 apr uk holidays are allowed As long as no one visits beautiful coastal towns in the sw of course Their tourist industry is very happy to go bankrupt.
Try reading the actual guidelines for lifting restrictions.
RevolvingPivot · 27/03/2021 08:20

Op if you posted you were going to your second home this weekend I think the replies would be different.

EileenGC · 27/03/2021 08:21

@An0n0n0n

Have you followed every rule to the letter OP. EVERY ONE? Halo
She probably has.

So OP, coronavirus is now on your mind 24/7? You go about your day constantly thinking about coronavirus? What’s allowed and what’s not? That’s a sad way to live.

poppycat10 · 27/03/2021 08:23

OP I visited my mother in the south-west two weeks ago. Admittedly she's over 80 and lives alone, so there are a few loopholes to exploit, but all anyone said to her was "oh how lovely you haven't seen your daughter for months".

And that is the correct response.

To coin a MN phrase: wind your neck in.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 27/03/2021 08:23

So report them then and maybe others will be put off if they know people are reporting and fines being issued.

I’m dreading Easter as can already imagine the sheer number who won’t follow the rules and then go back into workplaces, schools, shops etc.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:23

@EileenGC

I honestly don't know what point you're trying to make here?

OP posts:
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/03/2021 08:23

@HugeAckmansWife

What for? Seriously, in terms of ACTUAL risk, what's the difference? In two days the roads will be crazy, service stations will be crowded and there would be more risk. Its clear that this isn't about Covid as much as a dislike of 2nd homers.
Why would that be happening in England?

The only things changing in 2 days time is being able to meet others outside, rule of 6 or 2 households and some additional organised sport. Stay local is still in place and England Holidays in self catering (not visiting Granny's house) not before 12 April at the earliest.

Ohcomeonitsrubbish · 27/03/2021 08:24

Please can someone tell me exactly where it is posted that we can visit second homes from Monday in England? We haven't been able to visit ours for months and months, and we were under the distinct impression that we won't be able to until 12 April at the earliest (planning on actually going in the May half term). Can we do day trips from Monday just to check it's still standing?

Chunkymenrock · 27/03/2021 08:24

I agree op. People must still follow the rules, but as ever, it's the idiots who think they know better and do what they like.

Figgygal · 27/03/2021 08:24

You can’t push water up a hill op
As you can see from the responses here everyone seems to think rules are for other people or that the guidance/rules aren’t in place for good reason

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 27/03/2021 08:24

Why don't you just knock on their door and ask them why they are there?

Skateosaurus · 27/03/2021 08:24

I genuinely don’t understand your selfishness OP. I know you’re ok in your publicly funded role as a teacher, but you must have friends in the tourism industry who’s businesses have been decimated due to lock down, why would you not want the tourists back ASAP, to help your friends get back on their feet?

If I lived in an OONB, or by the sea, i certainly wouldn’t be miserable like you, it would make me happy and I would love to share it with people not as fortunate as me. Sadly, I can’t see myself moving to Cornwall for many years at the moment, but I do have a caravan down there as I (and many others) can get high, just at the sight and smell of the beach.

Thankfully the locals I have met are not as miserable as you appear to be, and seem to actually want the tourists. I appreciate I may be misreading the signals, but I really can’t see many of their business thriving without them.

flamingflamingos · 27/03/2021 08:25

@oohmamama it's my home, my legal property in law, I can go there as I please.

I have been 100% wfh (with lone site inspections) since returning from mat leave and I have two young children who are not currently using childcare. We have our shopping delivered from local independents and a diesel tank at home (farmers) - this is the way I've lived long before covid was a thing.

I might not be following the covid laws but if they are to prevent the spread of coronavirus then I am 100% satisfied that my actions are sensible. I don't need my decisions bolstering by someone who doesn't agree with me.

Imagine living in a world where you would consider reporting your neighbours for simply wanting to see their family.
