Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

OP posts:
Oohhhbetty · 27/03/2021 10:13

Not allowed with suitcases! Allowed to visit for the day.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 27/03/2021 10:18

The family visiting lone gran probably is allowed to visit with suitcases because they’re effectively all one household.

The family visiting second home are probably two days early, and also using a bit of a loophole.

I don't think people are saying thru are special and the rules don't apply o them. I think they (and certainly) I am saying that the situation has massively changed since last summer and that the rules make so much less sense now than they ever did. Covid spreads during perfectly 'legal' activities that people have been doing throughout, like working, shopping, travelling on public transport. We have done what we needed to to protect the NHS.

Nanny0gg · 27/03/2021 10:32

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

It's 2 days until they're officially allowed there. I can't see how 48 hours is going to make any difference
12th April. Not now
WiganNorthWest · 27/03/2021 10:33

@HugeAckmansWife

What for? Seriously, in terms of ACTUAL risk, what's the difference? In two days the roads will be crazy, service stations will be crowded and there would be more risk. Its clear that this isn't about Covid as much as a dislike of 2nd homers.
This. Covid doesn’t know what date it is-it won’t magically be safer in 2 days/12 days even.
cryh · 27/03/2021 10:40

@Archersandlemonade

The 2nd homers could live there all the time - I don’t know why people moan about them - surely it’s a bonus that they don’t. People say they come and put strains on the local Hospital etc but the local Hospital must be able to cope with all the people otherwise they wouldn’t build so many houses in that town- and if they can’t cope then that’s an issue for the local Cpuncil surely
There are so many policy misunderstandings in this post I don;t know where to start!

Basically, no, you are wrong Grin

mummydoris2006 · 27/03/2021 10:44

@oohmamama how dare you post about people breaking the rules, didn't you get the memo that if you live in a tourist place it's totally allowed? Oh and please remember to worship at the feet of these people that come on holiday, they keep the economy going dontcha know. No way would there be any amenities if they didnt come on holiday and the whole place would turn to rack and ruin and no one would be employed!

I live in a seaside resort, I hate the disrespect that people have shown by totally disregarding the rules because they need sine bloody fresh air. I haven't visited the towns and cities they live in but because my home town has a beach then it's perfectly reasonable for them to come here apparently! I'm also in full time work and can hand on heart say not one of my family members is employed in a role that holiday makers subsidise. I'm totally fed up of the fb posts saying "if it wasn't for us visiting there's be no jobs/ economy/ships etc"

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/03/2021 10:46

If the Gran lives on her own, the visitors are all from the same house hold, and they are her support bubble, staying over has been allowed since last June. She doesn't even need to have bad news.

Emilyontmoor · 27/03/2021 10:48

Who says nobody in London is complaining about all the people flying in, bringing the South African and Brazilian and who knows what other variants with them? It is pretty obvious with Boris prevaricating yet again that one of these variants is going to take off and we will all be back to square one for the foreseeable future. This is not just something picked up in the internet, it is the scientific consensus. So yes I am pretty pissed off hearing the first planes come in around 5am daily from Accra and Lagos. It used to be the Hong Kong flights but for some reason they don’t run anymore. Hmm. If they would let anyone from this plague island in I’d fly out and join family and friends around the world who are able to get on with their lives because they have competent governments who suppressed the virus.

So yes OP quite right to be pissed off that they announce a relaxation of rules on a certain date and immediately people start doing as they please and putting it all at risk. It hasn’t just started either, it started the moment Boris announced his road map.

And also yes - overnight visits are not allowed until 12th April:

Changes on 29 March

The evidence shows that it is safer for people to meet outdoors rather than indoors. And this is why from 29 March, when most schools start to break up for the Easter holidays, outdoor gatherings (including in private gardens) of either 6 people (the Rule of 6) or 2 households will also be allowed, making it easier for friends and families to meet outside.

The ‘stay at home’ rule will end on 29 March but many restrictions will remain in place. People should continue to work from home where they can and minimise the number of journeys they make where possible, avoiding travel at the busiest times and routes.

Step 2, which will be no earlier than 12 April... Self-contained accommodation such as campsites and holiday lets, where indoor facilities are not shared with other households, can also reopen.

Alsohuman · 27/03/2021 10:54

@An0n0n0n

Have you followed every rule to the letter OP. EVERY ONE? Halo
Nope, she’s taken her kids shopping. But apparently her rule breaking is different.
FourWordsImMuNiTy · 27/03/2021 10:54

Second homes loophole opens on 29th March not 12 April cryh.

Family were always allowed to stay with gran assuming they’re her bubble, 12th April/29th March is neither here nor there.

God yes, this.
Tourism where I live benefits the few at the expense of the many. Quite a lot of the airbnbs and holiday rentals are not owned by locals, and people often bring their food with them, or use a big supermarket chain.

JudgeRindersMinder · 27/03/2021 11:02

I’m genuinely past caring, and I’m totally sick to the back teeth of all the tale telling

Oh right, Judge Rinder is fed up, I am sure now the Covid virus will stop mutating and infecting people and crawl back into the bat it came from....

Lockheart · 27/03/2021 11:08

This thread is batshit, and I'm not talking about the OP.

You ARE allowed to shop with your children - the guidance is to shop alone where possible.

You are NOT allowed, currently, to visit second homes or to stay away overnight.

DdraigGoch · 27/03/2021 11:15

God this annoys me too!
It's always 'a beautiful seaside town' would it not matter if it was a run down council estate somewhere up north?
How many second homes are there on your typical Rotherham estate?

cryh · 27/03/2021 11:17

@FourWordsImMuNiTy

Second homes loophole opens on 29th March not 12 April cryh.

Family were always allowed to stay with gran assuming they’re her bubble, 12th April/29th March is neither here nor there.

Oh does it? In which case apologies, I thought it was the same as other overnight accomodation.
Haydugee · 27/03/2021 11:17

MN at its craziest.

The same people who are cheering on the rule breakers will no doubt be complaining the loudest if there’s a 3rd wave.

YANBU.

DdraigGoch · 27/03/2021 11:18

@ButtonMoony

Great to hear that people are starting to move around, get their lives back, and put money back into the economy.
How much money is being put into the local economy then? Are they spending in local pubs/restaurants? Visiting attractions? Buying stuff from local shops?

Or is all of the spending just going into Tesco if anywhere at all?

Alsohuman · 27/03/2021 11:20

How’s there going to be a third wave with more than half the adult population vaccinated? And if there were why would it matter if it was a wave of mild/asymptotic cases?
friendlycat · 27/03/2021 11:21

I’m with you OP. I wish everyone would just follow the rules. But no they are fed up and don’t care anymore. Good job that lots of other decent citizens balance it out by following what we are being asked to do.
