Is anyone else sick of anti police/some of the younger generation in general?

I'm 29 so in no means "old" but I don't know what's happened the past couple of years.

I was bought up to respect police, not break the law. Obviously I have, underage drinking etc yet I've never been in trouble with police. Twitter is full of 17-20 year olds slagging off the police for breaking up protests etc hello we are in a pandemic and I'd really like to be out of lockdown soon?

Was also bought up to not judge anyone by their skin colour, religion, sexual orientation etc I have friends who are gay, black, white, Muslim, Jewish yet none of them understand this whole she/her announce your pronouns stuff, we all just respect each others preferences/views/religions/self identification.

Is anyone else feeling sick of this or am I alone???

The police get respect when they earn it, just like everybody else. It’s a fool who gives deference just because they are told to.

YABU. I am 30 and am glad people are no longer deferent to the police and instruments of power.

Blind respect is a huge mistake. And if you’ve never been on the wrong side of police discrimination, racism, misogyny you won’t empathise with those who have.

I agree. I'm 34 and I honestly am a bit bored of the constant culture spats. It's basically a twitterstorm which is spilling into real life. Like you, was taught to respect police so I have absolutely no time for people who 'rage against the machine' and cause mayhem. The pronouns thing is annoying as well, who cares? Why do we have to care? We're people, this labelling has gone so far.

I'm glad the whole "respect and obey they police" thing is wearing off. They aren't perfect or superior and often on a massive power high and behave quite thuggish. Not all of them, but I don't believe they should be respected just because of their uniform. Haven't we literally just had one prove the issue with blindly trusting, respecting and obeying the police?
The police should be held to a higher standard than us.

Police in the UK police by consent. Many people are not consenting to draconian, hastily made laws, sexism, racism and the general hatred of women.

Just because you were brought up to respect the police it doesn't mean that they deserved it or that it can't be challenged. I respect the law but I don't respect the police.
Unquestioningly respecting a body or authority is how rapist and baby stealing priests got away with it for so long. It's actually extremely dangerous. The police need to be accountable just like anybody else.

And what do any of those have to do with the police?

I respected the police until a few years ago when one was an absolute, vile arse to me just because he felt like it. I honestly think he took one look at my car and assumed teenage lad, instead of the middle class, middle aged woman I am.

On the whole I think many on the police force do a good job, but I would be very wary about whether they were one of the good guys or a rotten bad apple.

i'm age mid 50s & more afraid of the police than ever. That's what covid lockdown has done for me.

My children are early twenties, they used to not really think much at all about the police, but had a vague sort of respect as saw them as ‘authority’. After the last year or so, neither of them trust or respect them and that’s the fault of the police.

I think it's a general weariness at the direction in which younger generations are changing things. Culture clash etc.

I'm with you OP. Smashing stuff up to make a point is stupid. People in general need to be more respectful whoever they are and whatever their job.
