To be a true feminism, I need to address my own misandry?

For example - are terms like LTB sexist?

Teaching your daughter that her priority must be to be kind to males and do what they want instead of what she wants.

Nice.

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:54

@Pumperthepumper you keep saying that!!

Ok - that when my DS goes to school, he’ll be vilified for liking dolls and flowers. That he can’t wear a pretty skirt. That he can’t like pink. That he won’t stand up for himself and have his bag thrown off the bus etc etc - because I won’t raise him to be a ‘bastard’.

@Naunet

OP may I suggest you invest in a dictionary and find out what misandry actually means

To be fair, misandry isn’t in the Oxford dictionary, because it’s not a real thing. Grin

Do you know, I didn't realise that! I have an Oxford English Dictionary and I went to look it up. Sure enough, it ain't there. My word these threads are educational.

Why are we feeding it?

For the benefit of lurkers who may find the rebuttals useful.

VettiyaIruken · 23/03/2021 17:56

And who will be giving him the most grief?
Hint: it won't be the girls.

Why are you so sure that your son will be the target of such hatred and bullying? And who do you imagine will be doing this? Girls or boys?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:57

@VettiyaIruken she needs to live with males and females as an adult. ATM - I see no gender definition. She is popular, and I encourage her to be kind to all who want to play with her.

Saying what? Do you think you’ve raised a misandrist and that’s why you started this thread?

You think your choice is to raise a misogynist or risk him being bullied?

so this is your worry?

and you think its feminism thats the problem?

thats the leap that seems extraordinary.

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 18:00

@Beseigedbykillersquirrels bullying is not gender specific. I’m as capable of it as you are.

picklemewalnuts · 23/03/2021 18:00

@FerrisWheelTrain

If we uphold a stereotypical view of men to be the norm, are we doing men a disservice?
I thought you wanted to talk about feminism? What's your point got to do with feminism?
LAgeDeRaisin · 23/03/2021 18:01

OP in my experience it's normally other boys that make fun of boys doing activities traditionally associated with girls. So again, this needs to start with boys and their education.

Nobody hates men here.

Nobody is making an assumption about your future son. Quite the opposite.

We can't make the assumption on meeting him down an alley that he is not a violent man. The assumption that any given man isn't violent is dangerous.

Somebody posted a great analogy on another thread: if somebody offered to a bag of maltesers and told you one was chocolate covered shit, how many would you try?

We can't make assumptions about men we don't know because one of them might not be a malteser.

Are you male or female? What does his other parent think about how your son is raised?

ScrambledSmegs · 23/03/2021 18:03

Your DD's objections to this boy are perfectly valid. Don't force her to override them.

I'm glad you find it hilarious that other people think you appear to be giving your daughter mixed messages.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 23/03/2021 18:04
@Beseigedbykillersquirrels bullying is not gender specific. I’m as capable of it as you are.
So now it's just everyone in general you have a problem with? Ever thought the problem might actually be your way of thinking?

VettiyaIruken · 23/03/2021 18:05
@VettiyaIruken she needs to live with males and females as an adult. ATM - I see no gender definition. She is popular, and I encourage her to be kind to all who want to play with her.
You are doing her a huge disservice then.

You should not raise any child to always prioritise others wants and feelings, regardless how they are being treated.

You end up with people pleasing doormats who get walked over and taken advantage of because they've been trained to believe their wants are at the bottom of the pile.

A good parent raises a kind and considerate person with the ability to maintain healthy boundaries and the feeling of self worth that enables them to decide when it is best to prioritise their own wants or needs.

ScrambledSmegs · 23/03/2021 18:06

Oh, and 'be kind' is probably the worst thing to teach our kids. Our school taught that until it turned out children were getting bullied and not standing up to the bullies because that wasn't kind Hmm.

MyPantsAreInsideOut · 23/03/2021 18:07

@Pumperthepumper

Quite, maybe that's because there are no consequences of misandry to wider society. It does not exist in large enough quantities to have an impact, if it even exists at all beyond an individual level which I personally don't think it does.

Certain men appear to believe that misandry is the equal of misogyny, which it is not.

maddening · 23/03/2021 18:10

Sorry but the reclaim the recent violence in Bristol which did result in police injury was fuck all to do with feminism.

The only violence at the vigil was by males who had sweet FA to do with the vigil and were there simply to cause violence/ agitate /disrupt.

maddening · 23/03/2021 18:10

And men claiming misandry is like a white person claiming discrimination.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 23/03/2021 18:11

This has gone from wanting to be feminist but struggling with misandry, to being annoyed that men were violent to some police officers, to saying that all women hate men and the police, to having a 'popular' daughter being 'supported' to include a male pest into her friendship group, to having a son who likes dolls and flowers who will obviously be exactly the same when he goes to school and have his bag thrown off the bus by everyone Can't you see that this is all just utter nonsense?

WoolOfBat · 23/03/2021 18:16

What does feminism have to do with potential bullying of boys who don’t do performing masculinity?

And what does feminism have to do with mainly male protesters being violent towards police officers?

MyPantsAreInsideOut · 23/03/2021 18:17

You know what, actually, yes.

I am going back to the "My cat just had a shit in my fire" thread, more interesting and makes more sense.

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 18:19

@ScrambledSmegs I would say DD is not the best at addressing the feeling of others. So what is the appropriate response?

OP posts:
Deadringer · 23/03/2021 18:19

I think op just wants to tell us how great her kids are.
