To be a true feminism, I need to address my own misandry?

For example - are terms like LTB sexist?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:33

@TwoBreakingIntoOne - but he term is being used as a generalisation?

TheNestedIf · 23/03/2021 17:33

Have I got this right?

Men attack other men who don't conform to traditional male so women who advocate for women need to do something about it?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:33

@WhereYouLeftIt thank you!! At last..

Helmetbymidnight · 23/03/2021 17:35

op, do you think feminists are the ones who
a- make the streets unsafe
b - will laugh at your son if he is not stereotypically masculine?

Sbk28 · 23/03/2021 17:35

Is bastard a gendered word? I use bastard indiscriminately.

Someone on the first page compared it to bitch. That's wrong. Bitch is gendered. Even when men refer to other men as "little bitch," there is a reference to that man being feminine.

I think you nailed it, but to add, don’t expect men to sort out their violence against women in the meantime, because NOT ALL MEN!!!!

IsAnybodyListening · 23/03/2021 17:36

FerrisWheelTrain Do you want to start again and coherently put across what you are trying to say? All your comments read like you are on some random sentence generator app.

You should start by reading up about Feminism. Now hold on for the next bit, this might blow your mind and contradict the tit-bits you may have picked up from Twitter. Feminism and Misandry are not mutually exclusive. It is the most common misconception.

I love all the men in my family. However, do I pull them up on their verbal bullshit as and when I need to? Yep.

Pumperthepumper · 23/03/2021 17:36

That’s not feminism. What you’re thinking of is how society can combat toxic masculinity and the answer doesn’t lie with women.

Why is your daughter excluding her male classmate, do you think?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:38

@WhereYouLeftIt am I wrong to mention the term misandry? Is it something that doesn’t exist?

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 23/03/2021 17:38

Hang on - you're teaching your daughter that she has to 'include' a male classmate when she doesn't want to, thereby putting the feelings of a male above her own?

Precisely what message do you think you're giving your daughter?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:42

@Pumperthepumper because he is imposing upon her female Bestie friendship. Also because he destroys things in her Minecraft world. He apologises and says he won’t do this now, and apologises for being ‘shouty’. DD is definitely calling the shots! It’s all on her terms.

MyPantsAreInsideOut · 23/03/2021 17:43

You know, I don't think I have ever heard a woman use the word misandry and feminism in the same sentence. In fact, IRL, I have never heard a woman use the word misandry at all.

Only heard the two together from MRAs, usually interspersed with the word feminazi.

I'd say nice try mate, but it's not really, bit too obvious.

greycloudysky · 23/03/2021 17:43

@FerrisWheelTrain

If we uphold a stereotypical view of men to be the norm, are we doing men a disservice?
Why are you centring men when attempting to discuss feminism?

Why don't you let men sort out their own problems and stop trying to sort them out for them?

When I became a feminist I had to deal with my own misogyny. I had been brought up by my family and culture, to despise women and anything feminine. I thought I was a feminist because I acted like a man, rather than a stereotypical woman. I was abandoning womanhood and despised anything considered 'girlie'. That was how I was brought up and what was reflected back to me by my culture, I saw how wrong that was when I began to read seminal feminist texts.

Try reading some feminist books in order to understand why your starting point in feminism, is actually men.

What you keep labelling as misandry is not actually misandry but rather the societal expectations that males behave in certain ways. Those expectations are often actively policed by other males - how you have to behave to be “one of the lads”. These expectations do nobody any favours they are negative for males and females alike. Women are seeking to address the negative impact on them and I hope men are doing the same.

And you’re worried you’ve raised a misandrist?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:46

@ScrambledSmegs that’s just made me curl up with laughter! My DD is completely dominate of this boy who is in awe of her minecraft skills.

OP posts:
TheNestedIf · 23/03/2021 17:46

DD is an absolute fighter. She is highly sociable - and I’ve been supporting her this weekend to stop excluding a male classmate who wants to be her friend.

Sorry. Missed this update. I'm out again because I think this is either a wind up or an MRA and I'm not wasting any more of my time.

If true, this is someone doing their daughter no favours in terms of asserting boundaries. She is entitled to ignore this classmate for any reason she chooses. Perhaps he smells. Perhaps he waffles on at her when she wants peace and quiet. Perhaps he thinks he's funny when he's not. Almost certainly she ignores other females who she also doesn't get on with.

Pumperthepumper · 23/03/2021 17:46

And you can tell for sure when you ask them what the societal consequences of misandry are, and they can’t think of a single one.
HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 23/03/2021 17:47

Why are we feeding it?

FerrisWheelTrain · 23/03/2021 17:49

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude! Yes - brilliant. But - reverse that.

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 23/03/2021 17:49

because I want to raise a strong daughter, and a strong son. DD is an absolute fighter. She is highly sociable - and I’ve been supporting her this weekend to stop excluding a male classmate who wants to be her friend. DS is quiet, nervous, unobtrusive - and easily hurt. Neither of them conform - and what is it exactly that they should conform to?

What? Confused Are you saying that feminism is somehow preventing you from raising your children by telling you that you have to make them conform to something? You seem very confused tbh.

Why are you encouraging your dd to include a boy who is interfering in her friendships and being a pain in her online game?

VettiyaIruken · 23/03/2021 17:50

Are you telling us that at this vigil women were beating and breaking bones of male police officers? Women were doing that?

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 23/03/2021 17:51

OP, your posts are the written equivalent of diarrhoea and vomiting. Endless streams of uncontrolled shit just pouring out.
If men have a reputation for being violent, predatory, bastards, rapists, etc, who has given them this reputation? Hmmm, men perhaps?
If women don't feel safe walking the streets, who had made them feel this way? Hmmm, men? Seeing a pattern here?
Your comment about supporting your daughter to not exclude a male who wants to be her friend is not admirable. It's teaching her to be nice to boys even if she doesn't like them or they do things are doesn't enjoy. You're teaching her this.
You don't even seem to know what you're talking about so it's really not surprising that nobody else does either.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/03/2021 17:52

@FerrisWheelTrain
Feel free to explain how you want to reverse it. I am interested to hear your point of view.
