How's your hair looking?

If I don't laugh at myself I'll probably cry.

I had my hair done in October 2019 with the idea of getting it done again in early spring 2020 ready for the summer, well that didn't plan out obviously and now another 12 months have passed and I look like Brian May.
Anti-frizz serum is useless at this point.

Tell me I'm not the only person who looks ridiculous.

I struck lucky with my appointments so my last one was December 17th. I have a chin length fringed bob and very straight hair (thank goodness) so it's just grown longer and tips up a bit instead of under.
I bought some proper scissors and clips so can just about manage my fringe and I've always coloured it myself.
The length is really annoying me now though, I'm just not me with my hair longer.

Got an appointment on April 20th and I'm more excited about that than anything Smile

Anordinarymum · 22/03/2021 15:12

I stopped dyeing my hair in March last year.

I now have four inches plus of silver/white hair and the rest is the old brown colour.
I have cut it several times myself using youtube manuals and don't do a bad job.
I now have a Lob . It looks OK. I have super conditioned it over the year and do not put any sort of heat on it unless I am going out.

People say the colour looks good. I personally think the grey ages me and will get something blonde when I see a hairdresser.

Lockdown forced the colour issue and I am glad I stopped dyeing it. It has made ;life a whole lot easier not having to dye it every two weeks.

purplecorkheart · 22/03/2021 15:12

I did not think mine was bad until I meet my hairdressers last week in the supermarket and he mention he will have his work cut out for him when he is back to work. I was going to put a box colour in but the strand test came out funny. My white hairs came out a greeny blue.

RougeNoirSquoval · 22/03/2021 15:12

It’s been about 18 months since I had a proper haircut.

Been managing ok with fringe trims, no blow drying and a plethora of conditioning/strengthening treatments.

To be fair, it’s gotten long enough to pull the curl out of it so that’s made it easier. It was just tied up all last summer smothered in conditioner because it was at that awkward stage just above the shoulder blades and how it’s nearly at my wits (when the curl gets pulled out of it it suddenly gets about 4 inches longer).

I like the lockdown undercut I have myself and will get it neatened up once the hair dresser is reopened.

If it looks like I won’t manage back by Xmas I’ll get a crea clip and get DH to trim it off a millimetre at a time with that and his clippers.

RougeNoirSquoval · 22/03/2021 15:13

Waist not wits

Knittedfairies · 22/03/2021 15:13

I've got an Olive ('On the buses') thing going on here...

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2021 15:15

Not too bad. Was cut and highlighted at the beginning of Dec. Getting fine and wispy / snaggy at the ends now and grey at the roots.

Andylion · 22/03/2021 15:16

and am now resembling Boris Johnson - not on a good day.

Wondering how one can tell what Boris's hair might look like on a good day.

My hair needs a trim and highlights, but since I began to wash it only every five days, it feels much nicer. Although, looking back, if I had known how long this whole Covid thing was going to last, I might have shaved my head. It would be my normal length by now.

dottyaboutstripes · 22/03/2021 15:17

I had mine cut and coloured at the beginning of September. I need a good trim and the roots are obviously not great! I used to dye it myself but stopped when my colour was discontinued because I was scared of trying a new one but it was a hell of a lot cheaper!

HesSpartacus · 22/03/2021 15:17

Hair looks fine - if I'm wearing a hat....

I had the roots done just before Christmas and have a 2 inch grey streak down my parting already. Just my luck to have fast growing hair when it isn't appreciated. Also, I can no longer delude myself that my hair is only a bit grey on top. It is everywhere. It would be at least 80% white if I left it, which I won't as it makes me look about 10 years older.

Thankfully it is a bit wavy so the ratty ends aren't noticeable - a small mercy.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 22/03/2021 15:19

How's my hair looking? Well, let's put it this way, I'm very glad that the disastrous, overly short haircut that I had in November (and that I still hate now), happened at the time of year where covering the whole sorry state with a hat didn't look out of place 😕 It's still too short to put in a teeny pony tail without using clips, and when it's down it looks like I have wings over my ears! 🙄 Oh, and the colour's shite too 😒 It's a massive pile of 💩

KarensChoppyBob · 22/03/2021 15:19

I haven't seen a hairdresser since before first lockdown and mine is thick naturally dark and grows fast, so it's way down my back now and I'm starting to resemble a witch 🧙‍♀️.

Howyoualldoworkme · 22/03/2021 15:20

And my moustache and delightful old lady chin hairs are in desperate need of threading too Grin

PopAyetheSailorMam · 22/03/2021 15:20

Mine’s tooooooo long now. I gave it a 4 inch lopping and wear it permanently up. I’ll wait out the rush once places reopen. There are folk who need urgent interventions more than my simple needs of a straight shoulder length cut. No fringe no colour. Him indoors has offered his services - thanks, but no thanks. If things shut down pdq after a grand reopening you’ll see me sporting a MNmullet lol. Gonna start long and have a few tries. Bid’ness in front party in back Grin thanks Billy Ray - what can possibly go wrong ?

KarensChoppyBob · 22/03/2021 15:21

Yy constantly wearing mine in a high ponytail too - less witchy.

PickAChew · 22/03/2021 15:26

Enormous. I don't mind that as I've always had very thick hair and I look wrong with it tamed but the ends are so dry and it's matting up more than when they're not.

bingowingsmcgee · 22/03/2021 15:29

walnuts what henna products do you use please?

RedGoldAndGreene · 22/03/2021 15:37

Terrible.

My local salon is probably stricter than the local
hospital when it comes to infection control so it's a shame that they couldn't stay open.

millymae · 22/03/2021 15:37

Dreadful.
Prior to the first lockdown I had had a pixie type cut for years but decided that I quite liked it a bit longer so when I was able to get back to the hairdressers I asked her not to take a great deal off the length but to take the weight out and give it a shape that wouldn’t be too difficult to dry myself.
I had an appointment booked for the day after we went into the second lockdown so it’s ages since I’ve had it properly cut and it’s now chin length with alsorts of weird layers. My hair is thick and even when it was very short it took awhile to dry - now it takes absolutely ages and I’ve taken to clipping it off my face with slides. It’s driving me mad!

CouldItBeCake · 22/03/2021 15:41

Literally the best thing about me right now. Pregnant with twins, nearing 3rd trimester. I’m enormous, fluid-filled legs, spotty, bags under eyes... but my hair is in fabulous condition Grin

smoothieooo · 22/03/2021 15:41

ACurlyWurly The unicorn cut is basically the same as the MN one! That’s the one I did. I did a slightly timid chop at first followed by a much bigger one a week later.

I’ve also splurged on some Olaplex (bonding treatment with shampoo and conditioner) which has definitely made a difference even after 1 week!

vjg13 · 22/03/2021 15:45

Grim but had a cut and colour in December and have an appointment booked for the first week they open. Can't wait!

Flibbitygibbit · 22/03/2021 15:45

Ok as daughter in law is a hairdresser and is living with me 👏

picklemewalnuts · 22/03/2021 15:52

Bingoings, it's just henna powder. I mix with hot water and a splash of vinegar or lemon juice. Apply it roughly to the roots with a spoon, slopping it on then smoothing it along the parting with the back of the spoon. In the shower I smoosh it about a bit, then rinse it off. It cleans as well as giving a warm glow.

I don't use gloves, don't leave it on particularly.

My hair feels a bit dry the next day, but soon softens up.

OpusAnglicanum · 22/03/2021 15:54

Mine’s ok. Could do with a professional trim, probably, but I’ve often done it myself in the past so not worried. It’s strawberry blonde that I’ve never coloured and mostly I’m not that fussed anyway. I’ve never been high maintenance.
