How's your hair looking?

If I don't laugh at myself I'll probably cry.

I had my hair done in October 2019 with the idea of getting it done again in early spring 2020 ready for the summer, well that didn't plan out obviously and now another 12 months have passed and I look like Brian May.
Anti-frizz serum is useless at this point.

Tell me I'm not the only person who looks ridiculous.

🦁. Wild...

I let my husband cut my hair a week ago.

Big mistake. Asked for 3 inches off. He took between 6 and 8 (different lengths in different places.

My toddler would have done a better job.

Sayamino · 22/03/2021 13:41

It's my son's hair I'm worried about. He looks like Mick Hucknell

lidoshuffle · 22/03/2021 13:42

I look like Grayson Perry - whom I really love but I don't want to look him.

smoothieooo · 22/03/2021 13:45

My hair is looking better since I did the Mumsnet haircut which gave me some much-needed layers! It's very grey though but I'm waiting a few weeks before putting a home dye on (I'd love to get it salon dyed but my scalp reacts so I do a semi-permanent every few months as I'm just not ready to go fully grey).

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/03/2021 13:46

I got DP to hack off a year's growth last week.

I now have dull, faded brown, all the natural red has turned into pure white stripes emerging from my crown and there's about an inch and a half of the last bleach and colour at the ends, also faded and dull, as I wasn't about to let him do a chin length cut. The cut itself wasn't bad at all, as it had gone fine and limp or stupidly fluffy, so now it tends towards wavy and bouncy.

Once hairdressers reopen, I'll get it properly done.

Spidey66 · 22/03/2021 13:46

Horrible. Haven't had it cut since September. It's far too long, my fringe is past my nose, and I'm having to use a hairband. I have blonde highlights, the roots are very noticeable. I'm going to pretend it's a balayage and make out it cost good money to look like that.

I like the idea of long hair but it always looks untidy on me when it's at that inbetween stage

Gobbeldegook · 22/03/2021 13:53

So bad I contemplated shaving it off this morning 😂😂

ImportantIssueObviously · 22/03/2021 13:55

I haven't been to a hairdresser for years, the last time I went to one they messed it up so badly I've never gone back. I learned to cut my own hair and thank goodness I did - it's the only bit of me that doesn't look like utter shit at the moment! If you've got thickish wavyish hair that's shoulder length or longer, trimming it yourself is pretty easy.

Fifthtimelucky · 22/03/2021 13:55

Mine hasn't been cut since December 2019. To be honest it has a style where the length doesn't much matter so it's not a disaster that it's no longer its normal shoulder length.

It is much greyer than I would like though. I didn't want it redone last year as it takes ages and I didn't like the idea of someone standing close behind me for an hour. I also made a deliberate decision not to colour it at home, to see how bad it would look if left to go natural (I'm 60 and have been having it highlighted for over 10 years to cover the grey).

Suffice it to say that it could be worse but I shall be very glad to get it done again at my appointment next month!

Losingthechubrub · 22/03/2021 13:56

I decided halfway through the first lockdown to stop dying it, but it hasn't been cut properly since September 2019. Although it's a lovely pewter grey at the top, the main length of my hair is damaged and dyed a horribly clashing warm brown. I hacked a couple of inches off last week, but it needs doing properly asap. I honestly look deranged some days

LadyJaye · 22/03/2021 13:58

Mine looks brilliant!

I went full Curly Girl before Christmas (Type 3a - natural ringlets) and it's never looked better. I no longer have to spend hours on frizz and no split ends (well, none that can't be disguised!).

Also totally embracing my grey and have developed a very natty badger stripe at the front, which I love.

I never really got it cut more than once or twice a year anyway, but just before the last lockdown, I found a brilliant hairdresser who specialises in natural-textured hair and all I need is a little wet trimming and shaping with a razor, so no faffing around with ridiculous products and unnecessary blow dries.

Never going back to the tyrannical nonsense of haircare EVER AGAIN. Grin

TheGlitterFairy · 22/03/2021 14:00

Looking forward to my hairdresser reopening. Roots are noticeable now and hair is longer than it's been in years but she cuts it well so overall holding up.
Also looking forward to nail bars reopening and beauty salons generally too - time to get some personal grooming back!

Chimeraforce · 22/03/2021 14:00

Looks OK, I don't use a hairdressers anyway. It's long and straight so I've chopped in some face framing layers at the front. Looked iffy in September but grown out nicer.
Roots are very dark about 2 inches. Normally partner does them but I've told him to leave it so at least I can see something changing.
I wear it up but apart from the awful roots, I'm not bothered.

Trying2611 · 22/03/2021 14:08

I live in Wales so had mine done last week, prettier times are coming ladies Wine

Tillytwilight · 22/03/2021 14:17

It’s looking quite nice surprisingly. I had my highlights done early December, so now my natural dark blonde colour is through quite a lot and it actually looks nice (I saw some photos from last summer and my hair was too yellow then I think). So actually I’m going to tone down the blonde when I see my hair dress mid-April.

Haven’t had a cut since September, so it’s long now. Will keep the length and tidy up the ends.

WhySoSensitive · 22/03/2021 14:22

I only get my hair cut once every four or five years.... but because of a health issue it all fell out and I needed it cut last year. I managed an appointment between lockdowns but holy mother Mary... I look like a wild pinapple right now.
I honestly can’t even look in the mirror sometimes 😂

garlictwist · 22/03/2021 14:22

I have very thick hair that grows very fast. It's now so bushy it doesn't even stay in a bobble. I have to go jogging in a bobble hat just to keep it all contained. I cannot wait to get it cut off.

WilsonMilson · 22/03/2021 14:23

The roots, the roots. I keep trying to think it’s ombré, but it’s not, it’s shite. The most murky of dishwater colours. Thankfully it’s long, so the style hasn’t changed although. If anything it’s probably healthier since the bleach hasn’t been near it, but I feel totally unkempt.
I won’t get to my hairdresser (in old home town at other end of country) until summer, so I’ll be like a middle aged Rapunzel by then.

TheGonnagle · 22/03/2021 14:25

I stuck it in a ponytail and cut the ends off with the kitchen scissors about three weeks ago. It looks a lot better for some layers, I looked like Neil from the Young Ones!

Londontown12 · 22/03/2021 14:29

I had a pixie cut in October ! My hair was a Bob before !
But I’m always changing the colour (I’m a hairstylist )
So happy because it’s growing out nice and healthy plus I haven’t had to go anywhere whilst growing it out so I’m pretty happy with my tbh.
Well it won’t be long and everyone will be getting their hair done x

RowanAlong · 22/03/2021 14:29

Oh god, mine is awful. It randomly all fell out in the autumn - I blame the stress of homeschool. Now I have 20% long wisps and the rest short regrowth. Roll on hairdressers re-opening - it’s getting too warm for bobble hats!

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 22/03/2021 14:31

Crap. For most of 2020 it's been pulled up in a scruffy ponytail for ease and the effect of the constant pulling on my hair is now showing. I'm 41 and over the past year the greys have really started to make an appearance. The condition of my roots is awful. I last coloured my hair around August I think with a semi permanent and so much hair came out it's put me off using that again, I'd just rather get it done properly at the hairdressers although fuck knows when that will be, it'll be madness when they open up again.

Current pic is the top of my head just now, where yet again another scruffy non brushed hair ponytail resides.

How's your hair looking?
marriednotdead · 22/03/2021 14:31

Hair is fine and very curly so when it needs trimming the ends get knotty/frizzy. Usually get a tidy up a couple of times a year, July was the last time my hairdresser saw me.
Fortunately I do childcare in termtime for DD, so she trimmed it on Mother's Day and I look human again. However DS(24) looks like a caveman.

onemouseplace · 22/03/2021 14:32

Like absolute shite. The ends are dry, frizzy and highlighted. My roots are ridiculous, grey with one very noticable white streak that I never even knew I had! Plus there is a massive difference in texture between the two which just looks bizarre. Even tied back in a bun it looks rubbish. I managed to get through much of the winter wearing a beanie when I left the house, I need a spring hat now.
