Shopping in pyjamas

I know, this has been done to death, but just went to the supermarket and saw a full family out shopping in their pyjamas. It's the first time I've actually seen a fully grown adult out in a full set of pj's (dressing gown, pyjama top, pyjama bottoms, fluffy socks and sliders). More curious to know exactly why people find this so unacceptable, because essentially they are just clothes. For me it is just slovenly and lazy. But maybe I'm being too judgemental. Opinions?

I dislike it.

CheshireCats · 20/03/2021 19:41

I also judge. Majorly.

Roundtoedshoes · 20/03/2021 19:42

What’s a full family? I’d be double judging - day out during the pandemic and too lazy to wear appropriate clothing. Leggings and a baggy jumper would hardly be uncomfortable.

maddiemookins16mum · 20/03/2021 19:43

@Stonerosie67

I judge. I think it looks really chavvy and grubby.
Yep, me too.
mumwon · 20/03/2021 19:43

@Knitterbabe
Honestly - of course they are!
when we lived in Aus (way back in time) df was shocked & amused when he went to get newspaper on Sunday morning to see man get out of car in his shortie pj s to get newspaper not a thing you saw in early '60s England don't you know!
Note his amusement df wasn't critical tho' he came home & laughed about it when he told us. (He was a lovely man with very modern ideas about sharing housework & what work women could do -anything they chose to do! & joint bank accounts etc etc etc there are a lot of men on here he would regard as prehistoric)

jessstan2 · 20/03/2021 19:43

I've never seen anyone shopping in pyjamas!

Chunkymenrock · 20/03/2021 19:44

It really is slovenly and unnecessary. Probably a comic relief thing though.

Strangekindofwoman · 20/03/2021 19:45

They are just clothes. I couldn't care less really.

speakout · 20/03/2021 19:46

Armi
I’m one of those tiresome people who think you should only wear pyjamas when you’re in bed.

I am the same. I never slop around in pjs.If I am up then I am dressed.
I can;t get worked up about what other people do though.

InFiveMins · 20/03/2021 19:46

I would look, silently judge - but then forget about it and get on with my day.

ladygindiva · 20/03/2021 19:47

Whole family been in pj's since about 4pm here 🤣

inmyslippers · 20/03/2021 19:47

I think you've given up on yourself when you leave your home in your pjs.

Sparklesocks · 20/03/2021 19:48

I wouldn’t do it personally but it’s also very, very far down my list of things other people do that annoy me.

Meowchickameowmeow · 20/03/2021 19:48

Our local cinema has a sign up to say anyone wearing PJs will not be served.
I do regularly see one young woman wearing a onesie and ugg boots out shopping, she's in full makeup, hair done, and accessorized to the hilt so it's obviously some kind of fashion statement for her.
Looks bloody stupid to me.

Dentistlakes · 20/03/2021 19:48

Personally, I think it’s awful. When I see someone in their pyjamas, outside in a public space (shopping, doing the school run etc), my first thought is that they must be ill. We had a family member who was schizophrenic and they would go to the corner shop in their pyjamas. That’s what it reminds me of.

alexdgr8 · 20/03/2021 19:49

unhygienic

Mind your own business then it will not bother you!
FredaFox · 20/03/2021 19:49

Like others I judge, I often get in my PhD when home from work and getting comfy on the sofa but if I had to nip the shop id quickly change
I just think it looks grubby and lazy

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 20/03/2021 19:50

@HackAttack

Slovenly and lazy

Poor role modelling

Yep, totally agree. FWIW, I also hate pyjama days at primary school. It's weird and inappropriate. Pyjamas are for your private space, not public arena. It's about boundaries.
jonny9487 · 20/03/2021 19:50

Maybe their house burnt down and that's all they have

They were probably out shopping in their pyjamas when their house burnt down.

scrivette · 20/03/2021 19:50

I wonder if they change into different pyjamas for bed?

MysweetAudrina · 20/03/2021 19:51

I would probably judge you if you went out wearing your PhD.
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/03/2021 19:52

Well just to balance things up a bit, once I'd drunk so much that I fell asleep on top of the bed with all my clothes on Blush

MagicSummer · 20/03/2021 19:52

I honestly think it is just awful. Where is the respect - self-respect and respect for the fellow customers and people who work in the supermarket? Some people just don't seem to care anymore about standards and being normal in society - it is very sad.

Seasidemumma77 · 20/03/2021 19:52

I work in a supermarket, see women in pyjamas and dressing gowns at all times of the day
