To think #Allmen has backfired big time in the younger generation?

Since #Allmen started doing the rounds on Instagram at the weekend, DCs secondary school has become a battle of the sexes. Boys are being screamed at by the girls, called rapists, told they’re sexist if the don’t post #allmen on their Instagram. The worst I’ve heard about is a boy being told he should commit suicide by a group of girls (this is now being investigated). This isn’t just at my dcs school, there’s been reports of girls shouting abuse at boys in parks and on the streets around here.
AIBU to think we’ve gone in too hard and should have been educating our dc, not telling them that all men are abusers which is what they seem to have heard.

@Silvergreen

My dad was beaten up and mugged by a drunken hen party earlier. It definitely happened.
What was he doing out? COVID!!!!!
Dutch1e · 17/03/2021 19:35

So pleased to hear that all teenage boys and girls in all other area are so civil and united and this is an isolated occurrence in my area only

Not all regions are like that. This is obviously an isolated incident and it is inappropriate of you to paint all regions with the same brush. Please stop generalising to all regions, you sound a little hysterical. Most regions are kind and decent places. What was your region wearing? Was it drunk? #notallregions

Chooseausernamenow · 17/03/2021 19:36

The mass hysteria has a lot to answer for.

Well, when you post the screenshots that definitely exist then we’ll see exactly where the problem is, surely.
MarieDelaere · 17/03/2021 19:37

Some regions are just asking for it.

IndecentFeminist · 17/03/2021 19:38

Not a thing here

toocold54 · 17/03/2021 19:40

What area are you in OP?

warmandtoasty2day · 17/03/2021 19:45

you might well have guessed there would be a pile on without evidence op.

HallowedGround · 17/03/2021 19:47

Give us a clue to the region you're in OP. I'm in the west of Ireland and its not a thing here, I have teens and young adults.

Pumperthepumper · 17/03/2021 19:49

I’ve just had a look at #AllMen on Instagram and genuinely found it quite heartening! Lots of comments saying ‘I never really thought about it before but I’ll definitely try to do better’ -type posts. Much, much nicer than the wall of NAMALT crap that’s been all over mumsnet recently.

AlexaShutUp · 17/03/2021 19:49

I wonder if your area is a bit behind the times, OP? Most of the boys around here are supportive of women's safety, so there isn't really much cause for the kids to be disunited.

Are you sure your boys aren't posting anything or liking any misogynistic comments? What has actually been said to them?

YoniAndGuy · 17/03/2021 19:51
@Butchyrestingface do you really think #allmen would have no repercussions at all amongst youngsters? I’m not making this up.
Haha yes you are!

Another one with teens here. Nope.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 17/03/2021 19:53

Your area does sound particularly challenging OP. Maybe time to have a look on Rightmove?

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 17/03/2021 19:54

To those who suggest you change your username next time. No point, it won’t work. Certain posters are easy to spot no matter what their name as they can’t let go of their obvious agenda.

RabbityMcRabbit · 17/03/2021 19:56

Oddly an Internet search doesn't bring anything up... Hmm

ghostyslovesheets · 17/03/2021 19:56

there goes the West Midlands - walking around in a short skirt after dark again!

LolaSmiles · 17/03/2021 19:58

RabbityMcRabbit
How interesting Wink

RabbityMcRabbit · 17/03/2021 20:04

@LolaSmiles isn't it just.. Wink

Advic3Pl3as3 · 17/03/2021 20:44

I’ve just had a look at the #allmen on twitter and it seems to be mostly men posting very encouraging things about all men having a responsibility to help make the world safer for women (and eachother).

AlexaShutUp · 17/03/2021 20:45

Meanwhile, back in the real world, dd and her friends are all freaked out because some random guy approached her friend while she was out running.

I don't know whether to feel glad that dd no longer thinks I'm paranoid for not letting her run alone in the dark, or whether to be angry that we even have to think about that stuff. I feel both.

It's shit that our girls have to deal with this and I really can't get upset about a few boys objecting to some comments on social media saying that men need to address this problem.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 17/03/2021 21:14

@warmandtoasty2day

you might well have guessed there would be a pile on without evidence op.
But other posters have provided evidence - by searching Instagram for the hashtag and providing screenshots of the sort of things being posted. It's not happening all over the place, as other posters have testified.

I have a 13 year old DSD and she's not mentioned anything about this - though she may be younger than the core demographic the OP is referring to.

Theunamedcat · 17/03/2021 21:19

Never heard of this nonsense 🙄

Xiaoxiong · 17/03/2021 21:28

Just spoke to some teens, they hadn't heard of this. They ARE all talking about this insta account called "everyone'sinvited" which is basically a #metoo for schools, particularly super-selective independent schools.

ekidmxcl · 17/03/2021 21:44

This is what happens when we insist on splitting ourselves up into opposing factions.

My ds, who has not even reached the stage of being interested in girls, was asked what he had to say for himself. Quite aggressive IMO and he had no idea what to say.

LAgeDeRaisin · 17/03/2021 21:44

While we're inventing things to fit an agenda, when I met MM she was drowning puppies. And I saw JK Rowling steal some dib dabs from a poor child. And I overheard Bill Gates confess to vaccine microchips while he was getting the 252 from Clapton.
