To think #Allmen has backfired big time in the younger generation?

Since #Allmen started doing the rounds on Instagram at the weekend, DCs secondary school has become a battle of the sexes. Boys are being screamed at by the girls, called rapists, told they’re sexist if the don’t post #allmen on their Instagram. The worst I’ve heard about is a boy being told he should commit suicide by a group of girls (this is now being investigated). This isn’t just at my dcs school, there’s been reports of girls shouting abuse at boys in parks and on the streets around here.
AIBU to think we’ve gone in too hard and should have been educating our dc, not telling them that all men are abusers which is what they seem to have heard.

Here's an example of a typical post under #notallmen.

I think it's just maybe a better known slogan so people are attaching it their posts to it's seen?

Ive not seen the hashtag allmen, admittedly I dont really use instagram.
I am on facebook, including in the reclaim these streets facebook page which has 15k members and I havent noticed it there.
I have seen a really depressing amount of namalt, including on here.

horrayforharoldlloyd · 17/03/2021 19:12

I'm calling this out as being a lie.

I am the parent of teens as well as being a secondary school leader...... so that covers 4 different schools in 2 counties....... and it hasn't happened in any of the schools. #pantsonfire

User133847 · 17/03/2021 19:12

Secondary school kids shouldn't be on Instagram.

BiBabbles · 17/03/2021 19:14

Neither my college DS nor my secondary DDs know anything about any violence or nastiness from this hashtag (and DS1 is on his devices a lot, with insta and discord). None of the schools I've talked to recently have mentioned this - and I've talked with people from schools all over the county I'm in in the last week.

When my DD2 experienced a sexual threat about five years ago, my DS1 did emotionally beat himself up and had a poor image of his sex that we had to work through, though neither of his sisters blamed him for this event. There can be negative consequences if children only hear how terrible Y are or have a big event like that which can shake their sense of self and how they seem themselves and others in the world, but I've seen no evidence that the hashtag has caused this kind of 'backfire'.

Sounds awful but highly localized - is there a specific issue in your area that is fueling this fire far beyond social media?

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 17/03/2021 19:14

Another here who thinks this is made up.

Try harder Op

MarieDelaere · 17/03/2021 19:15

Neither my DD, DS, or DSC, have ever seen or heard of this, who are savvy with SM and who live in the real world.

'Twould appear to be the old bollocks.

AlexaShutUp · 17/03/2021 19:15

Yeah @LucieStar, I've seen quite a few things like that.

AlexaShutUp · 17/03/2021 19:17

I'm guessing that the OP won't be coming back...

gingganggooleywotsit · 17/03/2021 19:19

Yes lots of arguments online between my teen and her friends. She is furious with the boys and says they are all idiots because they are trying to defend men in her words.

Sinistersister · 17/03/2021 19:20
Hmm
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/03/2021 19:20

Nope. The only offensive thing I’ve seen is a NAMALT attempt on the FB page for DDs school, a girls’ school, by a father of a girl at the school, ffs. The admin, also a bloke, removed him from the group without further comment. Good.

TheMarzipanDildo · 17/03/2021 19:20

I haven’t heard anything of the sort.

horrayforharoldlloyd · 17/03/2021 19:20

@User133847 secular school children include 18/19 year olds!

What on earth...
Erkrie · 17/03/2021 19:23

Secondary school kids shouldn't be on Instagram.

That's for the parents to decide.

AlexaShutUp · 17/03/2021 19:26

Most secondary school kids are on instagram. They should be 13 to sign up. Beyond that, it's a decision for the parents. I am entirely confident in my dd's ability to use it sensibly.

gingganggooleywotsit · 17/03/2021 19:29

@GreyhoundG1rl. Not sure why you are surprised? And also @Sinistersister why the Hmm face? I didn’t say I agreed with my daughter just relaying it. Teens get very militant about this sort of thing and have very heavy discussions from what I’ve seen!!

katieloves · 17/03/2021 19:29

So pleased to hear that all teenage boys and girls in all other area are so civil and united and this is an isolated occurrence in my area onlyHmm

OP posts:
Silvergreen · 17/03/2021 19:30

This definitely happened

mbosnz · 17/03/2021 19:30

Maybe you should move to a more civil and united area Grin

Dutch1e · 17/03/2021 19:30

Let's, for fun, say this actually happened. Grin

It must be absolutely awful to be harassed and abused based on your sex, I can't imagine how... oh wait.

LucieStar · 17/03/2021 19:31

Not in my area. But as I said it seems to have gone the opposite way with the boys being even angrier at the girls, sadly.

warmandtoasty2day · 17/03/2021 19:32

sounds like another crock of crap on instagram. [not that i need to use it to know just read the shite on here ]

Silvergreen · 17/03/2021 19:32

My dad was beaten up and mugged by a drunken hen party earlier. It definitely happened.
