Making Love

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 16/03/2021 17:08

My DH insists that the term "making love" is romantic.

I think it's cringe-y and old-fashioned. I think having sex is just that, why call it something else?

Really interested to get some other opinions... Also hoping to prove DH wrong (in a totally light hearted way).

So - YABU - Making love is oh so romantic
YANBU - call it what it is!!

My Ex used to call it Rumpy Pumpy....hence being an ex

NormanStangerson · 16/03/2021 19:46

@Sunshinesky1981

I once dated a man that said this, should have known it was a non starter. A few weeks later I found myself in bed, being 'made love too ' , music on in the background when he suddenly starts staring straight at me and singing along with the love song. Was the most embarrassing, awkward moment of my life and my vagina was at that point trying to escape past my kidneys while he was still inside of me. Then he cried after he came as it was so over poweringly emotional.

I would have been less uncomfortable at that point if he tried to stick a fire extinguisher up my bum

Fuck NOOOOO. This would have made me burst into flames, right there, just out of a sheer inability to cope with how awful that situation would be 😂

'jump your bones' used here (to be fair these days its more 'climb aboard the blubber') Blush

Jenasaurus · 16/03/2021 19:47

According to Craig Davids song he was making love on Wednesday

My mother used to refer to sex as making love and it makes me feel sick. So twee.

cliftonbear · 16/03/2021 19:51

I prefer ‘railing’ 😌

crumpet · 16/03/2021 19:51

I don’t mind the phrase. To me there is a definite difference between making love and having sex. Having sex definitely has its place but I’d hate to only have sex for the rest of my life.

georgarina · 16/03/2021 19:52

Lol it's cringy

1forAll74 · 16/03/2021 19:55

Making love is a lovely term, but perhaps not,for those who may have random sex dates with one ,or many people.

DimidDavilby · 16/03/2021 19:58

@Riapia

It harks back to the days when it was done by two people in love. Nowadays any random person in the vicinity can be used. I f they’re fairly clean and not too revolting looking.
Gawd I hope you're not serious

i am loving the slut shamey responses from people who unironically say ‘make love’ lmao

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 16/03/2021 20:00

Def Swiss Tony, Theodopolus P Wildebeast or Barry White vibes. Bluergh. Unfortunately its DPs preferred phrase and he feels hurt if I say 'fancy a shag?'.

Fuck is ok by both of us, thank god.

I dont know why he's so twee when he calls my fanny a flange! Actually I also loathe fanny, pussy is totally cringe inducing. I like a good old English cunt, as it were, but DP finds that too crude. So flange it is as a weird compromise.

He also gets offended by 'knob'.

iloveautumn3 · 16/03/2021 20:03

Doinking fancy a doink ? 😁

sofato5miles · 16/03/2021 20:04

Dunno. Our sex life is along the lines of alot of fucking, sometimes having sex and occasionally we make love. It depends on our mood. But mostly i would say the act can basically be described in those 3 categories.

GlomOfNit · 16/03/2021 20:05

If a sexual partner ever used that phrase, it would make me be a bit sick in my mouth. Grin

I say (not that we DO, much), 'having sex' or 'fucking'. FFS

MrsXx4 · 16/03/2021 20:05

I’ve never really thought about this. We just call it sex here but I wanted to test ‘making love’ out. I just text my husband who is still at work asking if he fancies making love tonight and he replied within seconds saying ‘seriously!? I’ll grab my coat and head back now!’

So basically, he isn’t grossed out by the term and I now have to have sex tonight! So thanks! Grin

RubyFakeLips · 16/03/2021 20:06

No, it’s literally drying for me.

It’s very Midsummer Murders. Too twee.

I could never have sex with a man who used this phrase.

We would say sex, meaning the sort of intense kind. Otherwise it’s fucking or usually, a good seeing to! I have on occasion asked DH to come and sort me out.

Livelovebehappy · 16/03/2021 20:08

I’d rather have it described as ‘making love’ instead of ‘having a shag’. As is said, making love is something you do with a partner you’re in love with. Having sex or a shag is something you can do with anyone, just for the hell of it, no strings attached, one night stand kind of thing. You don’t need an emotional attachment if you’re just ‘having sex’.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 16/03/2021 20:11

I love how fans of the term think the rest of us have never experienced it.

DS2 (8) wants to know what I'm laughing at. DP whom I've showed this thread to) is not helping me.

I had a boyfriend who (briefly) called it 'boom boom'

AlwaysLatte · 16/03/2021 20:12

We say 'making love'. Neither of us like the F word and Sex sounds a bit clinical and not very romantic. Shagging sounds crude.

SEE123 · 16/03/2021 20:13

Yuck! I'm with you OP

FreeFallingFree · 16/03/2021 20:15

Grin Well, this thread has made MrXx4 happy at least.
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/03/2021 20:23

@Sunshinesky1981 Please, please tell us the song. I'm imagining My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. :o

Hello by Lionel Richie?

Lord, so many possibilities each one more horrifying than the last.

PattyPan · 16/03/2021 20:24

Making love is cringey and old fashioned but so is shag. It sounds like Austin Powers!
