Very nervous for my vaccine on Thursday...

22 and have severe health anxiety alongside panic attacks, I'm so scared to have the vaccine and face potential side effects Sad

I have the flu jab yearly which worries me enough but there's been so much bad press about the vaccines lately- I wish they would let me know which one it is so I can research it.

I haven't had Covid (that I know of) and stuck to all the rules but had a very active and busy summer when we were allowed last year, theme parks, pubs, restaurants etc

AIBU?

I think you know yabu. Your health anxiety is dominating your thinking. What treatment are you persuing for that? Having a vaccine is a walk in the park compared to anxiety.

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2021 20:11

I am having mine on Thursday too, I already know I'm having the Oxford one. I am way older than you but still a little apprehensive. Is there any way to find out which one, i was told on the phone when they rang me to book in.

A ECV friend had hers and had no side effects at all.

And even more a walk in the park compared to having covid.

@Chicchicchicchiclana I'm on medication and have had CBT and therapy for over a decade now. It's much better than it was I must say but I still worry a lot.

@RampantIvy very true! I'm just so scared I'd rather risk it which sounds crazy I know!

What time is your appointment? Mine's at 3.13 pm precisely.

Beachrules · 14/03/2021 20:19

I suffer from health anxiety as well so completelyunderstand where you are coming from. However had my astra zeneca vaccine last week with absolutely no side effects at all, not even a sore arm!

coffeeandbooks · 14/03/2021 20:20

@Sparklingbrook I'm going go ring up I think tomorrow and try to find out. I'm having it due to epilepsy. My parents and nan have had it and were absolutely fine and I have never reacted to the flu jab so I'm sure I'm being dramatic but I'm sick with anxiety over it. 😞

Was due to have it yesterday but changed it as so anxious.

Thanks I'll come back and report Flowers. Must not forget to wear suitable short sleeved top and not be undressing. Grin
I am not sure if I will have to wait around for 15 minutes after. My parents did (in their 80s) and got given an egg timer. Confused CEV friend said she could go straight away as long as she wasn't driving.

coffeeandbooks · 14/03/2021 20:31

@pinkstripeycat Wow. I am certainly not suggesting the vaccine is bad- I am just sharing my anxiety and hoping to be reassured.

I have acted within the rules the entire past year and so has everybody I know- none of us have an 'I can do what I like attitude' HmmAngry

Pretty narrow minded to put every young person in the 'snowflake' and rule breaker circle.

I'm sorry you haven't been offered the vaccine but it is not my fault! I have epilepsy as stated- my brother also has asthma but we both were careful and were luckily able to have a nice summer last year, doesn't make us demons!

Yes you are being a bit unreasonable. There is no reason for you to be worried about the vaccine if you weren’t worried about going out and about and contracting covid. Side effects are much more likely from the virus than the vaccine, even at your age.

beguilingeyes · 14/03/2021 20:34

If it's the Astrazeneca you don't have to wait 15 minutes afterwards. I work in a huge Vaccination Centre in East London.

The nurses are all prepared for nervous/phobic patients . You'll be well taken care of. The jab itself is very like the flu jab...you may not even feel it. I had a sore arm the day after and felt a bit hot. A couple of paracetamols and I was fine.

PrimulaAuricula · 14/03/2021 20:34

pinkstripeycat I hope you get called very soon. I'm 50 and was surprised to get a text last week (age reasons only). Ive got my jab on Thursday. I've been very worried as I'm a widowed parent so I'm the only parent they've got left. Hope you hear very very soon.

PrimulaAuricula · 14/03/2021 20:36

Just to clarify I mean I've been worried about getting sick with covid not about the jab which I'm desperate to have!

cricketmum84 · 14/03/2021 20:37

I was extremely anxious before mine - I actually cried on the way into the room. Had barely any side effects though, just a bit of a sore arm and headache and tired the next day.

The nurses are amazing. One actually came and held my hands and talked to me about cats while they were doing it to take my mind off it.

Like PPs have said any side effects can't be as bad as covid!

That's good news, thank you. Mum and Dad had the Pfizer hence the egg timer then. When I mentioned it on a previous thread everyone was horrified at all these elderly people manhandling communal egg timers. Grin
Ilovechinese · 14/03/2021 20:37

Yabu I wouldn't have the vaccine they are still I trials until 2023

simbobs · 14/03/2021 20:38

@coffeeandbooks don't bother to research the vaccine as you don't get to choose which one to have, and don't read up on other people's negative experiences. You may have health anxiety but you value your health, and know why you need to do this. I had mine on Friday and have not had even as much as a sore arm. Sending you a hand hold.

coffeeandbooks · 14/03/2021 20:38

@Sparklingbrook I must say the communal aspect of the egg timers did worry me 🤣 hope they wipe them down!
