Very nervous for my vaccine on Thursday...

22 and have severe health anxiety alongside panic attacks, I'm so scared to have the vaccine and face potential side effects Sad

I have the flu jab yearly which worries me enough but there's been so much bad press about the vaccines lately- I wish they would let me know which one it is so I can research it.

I haven't had Covid (that I know of) and stuck to all the rules but had a very active and busy summer when we were allowed last year, theme parks, pubs, restaurants etc

AIBU?

Glad to hear many of you have had it! I'm still so worried, I've cancelled it for now until I feel more able. Been having regular panic attacks. Tried to contact my Gp today but no reply. Sad

I hadine today OP, took a split second and I didn't feel a thing

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/03/2021 19:25

I’ve been super sleepy (getting back to normal after a week) and my sister has been really tired too. Sisters 3 and 4 haven’t had any symptoms.

TeenMinusTests · 18/03/2021 07:50

I didn't even get to sit down at my appointment yesterday Smile

Person 1 - check name on list
Person 2 - check booking reference
Person 3 - register on computer (would have helped to have my NHS number too, though bringing it wasn't on the instructions) and take emergency contact number for my DH
Person 4 - wait here
Person 5 - do you have any of these 6 conditions/ No. Quick jab in arm, hand over leaflets & card
Person 6 (who was actually person 4) - here's your sticker, sit in your car for 15 minutes before leaving

All very efficient.
My arm is a bit achy but nothing else so far.

126,000 people have sadly died of covid in UK in the last year

It makes sense for everyone to have a vaccine

HappydaysArehere · 18/03/2021 09:25

My dd is going for hers today and she is really excited.

HouseStuff123 · 18/03/2021 12:17

I have panic attacks and really feel for you Op, it's truly horrendous.

I'm not going to minimise how you feel, but I can tell you that I know loads of people that have had had it and are absolutely fine with minimal or no side effects.

I had mine this morning (Astra Zeneca), I didn't have to wait afterwards and feel fine so far.

The jab is important regarding the road back to 'normality' for us all. Covid, as you know, will make you feel an awful lot worse than the possible side effects of the jab, which is something to keep in mind.

The people who are administering jabs will have seen plenty of very anxious people, and will be able to reassure and look after you.

You will be ok. Maybe talk with your Dr about CBT as regards your health anxiety if you aren't already.

Thehawki · 18/03/2021 12:23

Don’t worry OP! Lots of people will be nervous to get it, but it’s perfectly safe. My mum was nervous but had it Tuesday, she has been absolutely fine and said the staff were lovely to her. Just walk through the front door and everything will fall into place from there x

murasaki · 18/03/2021 12:27

Just got back from mine - a bit of a queue, but nothing to worry about, and I HATE needles.

Wakemeuuuup · 18/03/2021 12:49

I had mine this morning. Very easy. I was given a form to fill in while I was still in the car.

Details checked and extra piece of paper at door. Then into hall for vaccunator to check details and given jab. Waited a few minutes then someone else checked contact details so they'll send my 2nd vaccine invitation in 11/12 weeks

FlyingNorth · 18/03/2021 12:58

If it helps with the panicky feelings, OP, I can say from my experience that the atmosphere in the sports hall where I had mine was very relaxed, even upbeat. Lots of people were very happy to be there, and the whole thing is really well organised, methodical and unpressurised. I used to be needle-phobic so I totally get where you're coming from, it can be difficult to get yourself over the threshhold.

Londonmummy66 · 18/03/2021 13:06

Hi OP - I volunteer at a vaccination centre and quite a lot of the people coming through yesterday were nervous - all ages. It isn't surprising as they have publicised the side effects to AZ quite clearly. The nurses are lovely and reassuring and so many people come out saying it was much more relaxed than they expected.

Try and make an appointment earlier in the day so you don't have time to dwell on it.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 18/03/2021 17:43

I had mine today too, it was rather good and very quick

Sparklingbrook · 18/03/2021 22:19

I got mine this afternoon. No side effects (yet). And sadly no sticker.

Horsemad · 19/03/2021 06:11

Hope you're feeling ok still @Sparklingbrook. DH felt a bit grotty 24 hrs later.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2021 08:30

@Horsemad

Hope you're feeling ok still *@Sparklingbrook*. DH felt a bit grotty 24 hrs later.
Felt very hot in the night and woke up with a banging headache which 2 paracetamol seems to have fixed for now. Got the day off so not doing much, I am hoping that once I'm past the 24 hour mark that might be it.
Saviour0fTheDay · 19/03/2021 14:17

Had my jab today
There was a box of stickers, but nobody was handing them out Hmm
I thanked the nurse for my quick, painless jab Grin

coffeeandbooks · 19/03/2021 16:17

Oh god mines at 18.40, after rescheduling twice I'm finally going to do it 😭

I'm so nervous as you can't know which one it is until you arrive! The only one I'm okay with is the Pfizer one. Sad

Cornettoninja · 19/03/2021 16:37

Good luck @coffeeandbooks. Think of it this way, at 7.30pm it’ll be all done and hopefully you’ll be back home by then Flowers

TomBarbara · 19/03/2021 16:39

Astra zeneca is good though. In the trials 22 days after the first dose there were no severe cases of covid and no hospitalizations. It's what we want isn't it. I had AZ yesterday. Feel very fortunate

TeenMinusTests · 19/03/2021 16:47

Nothing wrong with the AZ one OP. Just go for it. Flowers

beguilingeyes · 19/03/2021 16:53

The AZ is completely fine and it also improves with the 12 week gap rather than four weeks.
Horsemad · 19/03/2021 17:28

Well done for booking OP! 👍

Hope the headache has subsided now @Sparklingbrook? DH said he was told to drink lots of water, as it feels a bit like a hangover. I might just have a glass of Wine tomorrow night after mine and have the hangover sensation too! 😆
