Very nervous for my vaccine on Thursday...

22 and have severe health anxiety alongside panic attacks, I'm so scared to have the vaccine and face potential side effects Sad

I have the flu jab yearly which worries me enough but there's been so much bad press about the vaccines lately- I wish they would let me know which one it is so I can research it.

I haven't had Covid (that I know of) and stuck to all the rules but had a very active and busy summer when we were allowed last year, theme parks, pubs, restaurants etc

AIBU?

@Horsemad

Well done for booking OP! 👍

Hope the headache has subsided now @Sparklingbrook? DH said he was told to drink lots of water, as it feels a bit like a hangover. I might just have a glass of Wine tomorrow night after mine and have the hangover sensation too! 😆

Yes, it IS more of a hangover headache-where the lights are all too bright. I'm still on the paracetamol but nothing new to report and I'll be in work tomorrow unless anything changes.
PastaAndPizzaPlease · 19/03/2021 17:34

It’s totally fine, I got the Oxford one at 11am today and I’m fine. A little tired and achey arm but I’m alright. You will will be too.

beguilingeyes · 19/03/2021 18:26

You're much more likely to get s blood clot from the pill than from the vaccine...

coffeeandbooks · 19/03/2021 19:09

They only had Astra Sad they gave me a booking line number who will hopefully be able to tell me when they next have Pfizer.

There was a woman in front of me being equally ridiculous and saying she’d only take Pfizer. She was told in no uncertain terms that you do not get the option to choose, particularly as there’s not a lot of Pfizer in the country.

All the vaccines are perfectly safe, so you need to do your research until you feel comfortable and go and get the vaccine.

coffeeandbooks · 20/03/2021 01:01

@PastaAndPizzaPlease I was told I'd be eligible to request it on grounds of anxiety so hopefully I'll be able to get it soon.

I was under the impression Pfizer was being reserved for second doses for the foreseeable? Did 119 give you a timescale?

TomBarbara · 20/03/2021 07:31

Don't make any more appointments unless you know you are going to use them. There are people who are decades older and desperate for a vaccine. Leave the appointments for them.

KingdomScrolls · 20/03/2021 07:41

AZ is a more proven type of vaccine, Pfizer is newer tech surely you're better off with a known quantity?
Fwiw I had AZ but would've taken whatever was on offer!

RedcurrantPuff · 20/03/2021 08:19

I’m quite shocked actually they pandered to you like that. You should have been told it was the AZ or nothing. Over 11m doses have been given in this country alone. I really hope you don’t get Covid, personally as someone who has health anxiety myself I was just grateful to get a vaccine as Covid would be worse.

LittleBearPad · 20/03/2021 08:22

Agreed.
RedcurrantPuff · 20/03/2021 08:25

The PM has had the AZ and so has the Queen most likely. Do you think they’d be given a dodgy vaccine?

More people have had clots after Pfizer than AZ anyway.

Your health anxiety can’t be that bad which is a good thing as it’s pretty crippling. This time last year I was on beta blockers as I was so stressed. .

beguilingeyes · 20/03/2021 08:38

I was just reading a thing that said the Oxford Vaccine was going to be partnered with an American company, but they were worried that the US wouldn't let it out of the country, hence Astrazeneca.

The fears seem to have been well founded... Canada is having to get theirs from Europe.

I agree that people should take what they're offered and be thankful. This vaccine is a miraculous thing and most of the opposition has been political (I'm looking at you Macron).

LakieLady · 20/03/2021 08:38

@Cornettoninja

I certainly hope it is.

My MIL and a CEV friend had their first Pfizers back in January and haven't heard anything about their second one. I had my first (also Pfizer) a few days after them and had my second on Wednesday.

They're both a bit anxious that supply issues might mean they don't get it within the recommended 12 weeks.

I'm 65 and feel a bit guilty that I'm fully vaccinated before people with clinical needs. We were all designated as health and social care workers, even though I haven't actually seen a client face to face since Feb last year. I think only one of my team has, the rest of us have been doing everything by phone/email and WFH.

You might have a wait as Pfizer doses will be needed for second vaccinations.

Surely now not knowing when you'll be vaccinated and leaving yourself at risk of catching Covid will cause even more anxiety for you?

LittleBearPad · 20/03/2021 08:56

Covid is worse than any vaccination.

No idea why you think Pfizer won’t have side effects and the rate of blood clots is slightly higher but still completely negligible.

farnworth · 20/03/2021 09:10

Agree with PP, not wanting to sound unsympathetic but please don’t book any more appointments if you aren’t going to use them.
Too many people have died from covid; families are suffering as a result.
Too many people are desperate to be allowed to get their first vaccination appointment.

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 20/03/2021 09:13

Can I ask (you don’t have to answer) but why choosing Pfizer over Astra?

I have had a brain blood clot a subarachnoid haemorrhage a few years ago. Obviously, I was concerned with having a the Astra one. I had it yesterday and was very nervous! Media circus doesn’t help!

I can really recommend going in for you vaccine and chat to the trained medical staff. There was no pressure to have the vaccine and if I wasn’t comfortable with it I felt I could have had the space to say no and walk out. I was able to discuss the fears I had without fear of being judged to the doctor at the vaccine site.
Ironically only my sister who had the Pfizer was the only one who felt really poorly for 24 hours. The rest of the family who have been vaccinated with Astra had no or little side affects.

Me after having my Astra yesterday I have a sore arm but that’s it!! I was expecting & prepared for side affects but all good so far!!

Honestly speak to medical professionals I think having vaccine will help with medical anxiety? Sadly the media and people have their own agenda and aren’t fact driven just headline grabbing :(

Horsemad · 20/03/2021 09:31

Just waiting 15 mins now after having mine. Was very efficient, everyone lovely.
Professor JvT was here vaccinating last night, gutted I missed him! 😁

Was surprised how emotional I felt when I actually arrived, think it was seeing the huge operation & imagining that happening all over the world.

Oh, and @Sparklingbrook, I got a sticker, yeeay! 😆

Crayfishforyou · 20/03/2021 09:35

Please please please just get any vaccine. I’ve been ill with covid for a year now, it almost destroyed my life completely.
I’ve had pneumonia, liver damage, I’ve had to have heart monitors, I had a pneumothorax, internal swellings and a load of other things.
I’ve also had a perfectly healthy friend die from covid.

I’ve also had the vaccine. I felt a bit rough for two days.

If you have the choice, go with the jab. It’s nothing.

1WayOrAnother2 · 20/03/2021 09:50

Op I also have emetaphobia and feared the vaccine more than covid. I understand how threat of long term illness or death can seem less of s threat.

However, everyone I know who has had covid has thrown up and felt sick due to high temperature. D&V can be a symptom.

On the other hand, everyone I know who has had the vaccine- AZ or Phizer- has been fine.

I hope you can get help with the anxiety.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2021 09:50

I was told what vaccine I was getting when I booked the appointment. Are people really getting to theirs and requesting the Pfizer, then walking away if they can’t have it? Sad

@Horsemad rub it in why don’t you. Envy Grin

TomBarbara · 20/03/2021 10:02

Yes they are sparkling. Someone who volunteered in a vaccine centre said the other day they had to stay 2 hours late to try and find people to use up spare vaccines from drop outs, but still had some unused ones at the end of the day. It's sad when you think there are people desperate for the vaccine and still at risk of covid who could have had those.

Saviour0fTheDay · 20/03/2021 10:35

126,000 people in UK have passed away due to covid in one year

2.6 Million deaths worldwide so far

Have the vaccine

FlyingNorth · 20/03/2021 12:07

I was told I'd be eligible to request it on grounds of anxiety
I think (hope) what they meant was "You can request it on those grounds if you like, but they're going to say no". The Pfizer stocks are currently reserved for second jabs, which means they will be going to people who were in high priority groups. I sympathise, OP, but you're better off getting the AZ rather than having a longer wait without immunity.
