Delivery driver tried to run into me

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:21

Long and short is that I had a delivery today. Pallet was over 2 metre high and they wouldn’t deliver it to the back of the house. Every other delivery has been delivered this way. He wouldn’t tell me why he wouldn’t do it. It could have been there wasn’t enough space or whatever but he wouldn’t say.

I asked him to take the delivery back as I didn’t want to be liable for a pallet on the main road that wasn’t secured properly (was no wrap at the bottom) and I hadn’t signed the tablet. He refused.

As the driver was closing the back of the van etc I stood at the front of the van and tried to call the company. The driver than tried to drive into me. Had to call the police etc.

AIBU for standing in front of the truck and him trying to run into me? I was on the phone to his company.

Standing in front of a van when you already knew the driver was a bit of a knob seems a ridiculous thing to do.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/03/2021 21:25

Well yabu to obstruct his way but he's more unreasonable to drive into you, I hope you're ok

mum2bin2021 · 11/03/2021 21:26

Yeah sorry, you sound like a difficult customer and the driver had reached his limit by the sounds of it. He obviously should not have done what he did but you standing in his way is antagonising at best.

AlrightTreacle · 11/03/2021 21:27

What did the police say?

Dishwashersaurous · 11/03/2021 21:29

Why did you stand in front of the van when he was trying to leave after you refused the delivery?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/03/2021 21:29

Did he actually drive into you or did he just move towards you.
Some companies have kerbside only.
I think you two just worked each other up

Gazelda · 11/03/2021 21:33

Was he wanting to deliver it into your front garden, or outside of your boundary?

I think you were foolish to stand in front of the van.

He was an idiot to rise to the situation.

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:35

@SchrodingersImmigrant he drove into me.

The pallet wasn’t safe in its current state a it wasn’t connected to the bottom of the pallet. This could be the responsibility of the sender. I understand things got heated. All he needed to do was take the pallet back. Every other company has delivered to the back and I don’t understand why he wouldn’t.

OP posts:
Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:37

@Gazelda kerbside as described. The issue is the items were stacked was over 2 metres high and not connected to the pallet. This is unsafe to be left on the public road and I asked for it to be left at the rear of the property which is unadopted and only
Me and neighbour has access. Everyone else has delivered it to the rear.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 11/03/2021 21:39

Why was it?

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:39

@mum2bin2021 issue is, if you drove past and the pallet collapsed on your car with your baby inside.... would you think I was being reasonable to accept that delivery?

notmethenwho · 11/03/2021 21:40

YABU. You refused the delivery so obviously he will want to leave. He won't want to hang around waiting for you to make a phone call. You were incredibly foolish to stand in front of the van I can't quite believe you would do that?!

Of course he is also VU for driving into you

No one is covered in glory here

Dishwashersaurous · 11/03/2021 21:40

I'm confused. Kerbside is always the front kerb. Just because other people delivered to the back doesn't mean he has to.

Why didn't you move if he was about to hit you?

What did the police say?

MichelleScarn · 11/03/2021 21:41

I asked him to take the delivery back as I didn’t want to be liable for a pallet on the main road but why would it stay on the main Rd? What was it?

notmethenwho · 11/03/2021 21:41

Your title said 'tried to run into me' which, to me, means he would've threateningly drove close to you but stopped

Yet in your post you said he actually drive into you

Details are important.
What did the police say?

HotPenguin · 11/03/2021 21:42

I can't believe people are suggesting YABU after someone tried to run you over.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/03/2021 21:42

Doesn't matter what everyone else did. If it says kerbside, it's kerbside.

It couldn't have been THAT unsecured if he managed to take 2m high stacked pallet from the van without the load falling off.

TheLumpySofaCushion · 11/03/2021 21:42

I can't believe anyone is saying you're unreasonable, OP.

Having a disagreement with a delivery driver (or anyone) DOES NOT give them authority to try and run you over 😫

Blancah · 11/03/2021 21:42

@Sosigsandwich

Standing in front of a van when you already knew the driver was a bit of a knob seems a ridiculous thing to do.

Wow, nice bit o victim blaming there.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/03/2021 21:42

However, since you refused the delivery, he should have taken it back

Moondust001 · 11/03/2021 21:43

So, he actually hit you? In which case that is a criminal offence. What did the police say when you reported it?

On the rest of it - it doesn't matter a jot what other companies do. He said he would deliver it to the front and not the back. And if, as you claim, it wasn't securely packed, then it wasn't securely packed at either the front or the back. You told him to take it back, he was complying with your instructions, so you chose to stand in front of his truck to stop him doing what you asked. Personally, I wouldn't have been making phone calls in front of a truck, moving or not.

Dishwashersaurous · 11/03/2021 21:45

What did the police say?

InkieNecro · 11/03/2021 21:45

Were you standing in front because he was trying to drive off without the pallet even though you hadn't signed?

Sirzy · 11/03/2021 21:45

Tried to drive into you or tried to carry on with his job?

Sounds like you where being an awkward customer. Failed deliveries are a pita for the driver and in this case not the drivers fault it seems.

MummytoCSJH · 11/03/2021 21:45

I'm pretty sure he was just leaving without the parcel, not taking it back and doing what OP asked, which is why OP tried to stop him leaving without it whilst she phoned the company. Otherwise there would never have been an issue would there?
