Delivery driver tried to run into me

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:21

Long and short is that I had a delivery today. Pallet was over 2 metre high and they wouldn’t deliver it to the back of the house. Every other delivery has been delivered this way. He wouldn’t tell me why he wouldn’t do it. It could have been there wasn’t enough space or whatever but he wouldn’t say.

I asked him to take the delivery back as I didn’t want to be liable for a pallet on the main road that wasn’t secured properly (was no wrap at the bottom) and I hadn’t signed the tablet. He refused.

As the driver was closing the back of the van etc I stood at the front of the van and tried to call the company. The driver than tried to drive into me. Had to call the police etc.

AIBU for standing in front of the truck and him trying to run into me? I was on the phone to his company.

i dont think you were unreasonable , i really dont think it would have hurt him to deliver it to the back if it wouldnt have taken much longer , sounds like you just got an arse with an attitude thats totally unhelpful . if it wasnt safe to leave at the front then it has to go back and he just sounds really rude , he obviously got annoyed because you were ringing the company and he was going to get told by them to put himself out a smidge and take it round to the back i expect

BakedTattie · 11/03/2021 22:02

If you stand infront of a lorry/car/bike/moving vehicle - you’re going to get hit.

Honestly the entitlement of folk astounds me at times

Dishwashersaurous · 11/03/2021 22:06

What did the police say?

shouldistop · 11/03/2021 22:08

So how were you planning to move the delivery onto your property and why didn't you just do that straight away if you were worried about public safety?

LunaHeather · 11/03/2021 22:09

@TheLumpySofaCushion

I can't believe anyone is saying you're unreasonable, OP.

Having a disagreement with a delivery driver (or anyone) DOES NOT give them authority to try and run you over 😫

This.
Moondust001 · 11/03/2021 22:12
@Moondust001 what do you think happened?
You have been asked dozens of times - WHAT DID THE POLICE SAY? I don't need to know what happened. You are alleging that a driver deliberately hit you with their vehicle. You are fortunate to be alive and uninjured given that a truck deliberately hit you. So we all all fascinated to know how the police responded to this attempted murder. Do tell us.

luxxlisbon · 11/03/2021 22:12

Surely you had to take all the stuff off the pallet anyway? Why not just take it off and bring it out the back yourself? Other companies delivering it beyond what you have paid to do is irrelevant.

AWhisperWillDoIfThatsAllYouCan · 11/03/2021 22:13

You paid for kerb side deliver. That's what you got.
What arrangements had you made to move the stuff onto your property? Did you hire help or have family/friends coming over to shift it round the back?
Why didnt you just carry on with that plan? You knew it was kerbside, so you must have had a plan?

When you refused delivery, did he put it back onto the van? Or did he leave it there and get in the cab?

If he packed it up, then why stand infront of him? He had other jobs to get on to.

If he left it there, then that's annoying and go ahead and complain, but you dont go and stand in the road. You're not a penguin bollard.

unfortunateevents · 11/03/2021 22:13

WHAT DID THE POLICE SAY????

Nekoness · 11/03/2021 22:15

That’s because not everyone believes OP. She stood in front of a van on a public road attempting to prevent the van from moving.

If a man did that to a woman, people would be out with pitchforks. But when a woman does it, she can claim she was run over?

But everyone else did it. Yeah ok Karen on the phone to the manager

AWhisperWillDoIfThatsAllYouCan · 11/03/2021 22:16

@chaosrabbitland

They arent insured to be delivering onto people's property. Some drivers might do it, but they shouldnt be. What if they take it round someone's back garden and that person has pets or children or expensive garden furniture or anything really, and they drive over them or drop the delivery onto them or anything. Kerbside means kerbside. Why would you expect anything more?

Womencanlift · 11/03/2021 22:16

Another one who doesn’t understand how he got it off the lorry without everything falling if it was as unstable as the OP is making out

shouldistop · 11/03/2021 22:17

I suspect op was counting on the driver just delivering to where the others had and hadn't made any arrangements for how to move the stuff.

unfortunateevents · 11/03/2021 22:17

Cancel the cheque. Oh and LTB.

JakeChambers · 11/03/2021 22:17

If it wasn't safely packed for delivery you're absolutely right to refuse it.

Sounds like the driver refused to take the delivery back and was trying to drive off and leave it, hence why OP tried to block the truck.

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 22:19

@BakedTattie he refused to remove the pallet, I started to call his company and I didn’t want him to drive away. I can’t be responsible for 10 items that weigh at least 25kg each falling on people.

OP posts:
CantBeAssed · 11/03/2021 22:20

Another one here curious to know WHAT DID THE POLICE DO???

TheFairyCaravan · 11/03/2021 22:21

How can something be so insecure that it can be left kerbside, yet it’s just travelled from A to B on the back of a van without falling off the pallet and the driver managed to unload it without it falling off, too? It doesn’t make any sense.

HerMammy · 11/03/2021 22:21

@Kazkepper123
Did the police attend? Why did you not just unpack pallet and move into your garden?
You’ve been asked multiple times now.

gamerchick · 11/03/2021 22:22

So stop being a tight arse and pay for the delivery you want. Simple thing.

I don't believe this is what it seems or that you phoned the police.

cerseii · 11/03/2021 22:22

Sorry but I think you were partially in the wrong. Why did you need to stand in front of his car to prevent him from leaving? You were practically holding him hostage by blocking his route whilst you complained about him to his company, your actions would inflame any situation and create a problem. Who do you think you are?

It goes without saying that he was in the wrong and could have killed you, don’t get me wrong. But I would never risk my life by standing in front of a vehicle over something so petty. Was this really a hill worth dying on?

majesticallyawkward · 11/03/2021 22:22

You paid for a service, driver fulfilled it. You wanted something else, he said no so you got aggressive and tried to stop him leaving and he 'hit' you with a van.

Oddly evasive on what the police response was.

I'm calling bs.

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 22:22

@JakeChambers yep. I don’t know if the haulage or sender is responsible for the way it’s packaged?
Obviously he didn’t like me trying to stop him from driving away, still I don’t want to be responsible for 220kg falling on someone or something.

OP posts:
Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 22:23

@majesticallyawkward no I’m
Not invasive. I respond as quickly as I can and in an order I feel is best.
I’ll see what the police say when I present the cab CCTV.

OP posts:
AWhisperWillDoIfThatsAllYouCan · 11/03/2021 22:23

So why didnt you go ahead with the arrangements you had made to move the stuff off the pallet and onto your property yourself?
With a kerbside delivery you know that you are about to become responsible for 10x25kg items, so you must have had some sort of plan for the delivery time. What was it?
