To ask whether you have a dryer and/ or dishwasher?

We have never had the money or room for either but I need a new washer anyway.

I don't think I'd use the dishwasher however if I got the drier I wouldn't need to have the airer in the kitchen. Obviously most washer / driers are double the cost of a washer on its own.

My parents had a dryer over 20 years ago and I remember my dad saying they cost a lot to run.

Are either worth it?

Have both, wouldn’t be without either of them.

Yolanda524 · 11/03/2021 20:15

We have a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. I wouldn’t want to be without either. I initially didn’t get a washer dryer as heard so many negatives about them but when out washing machine packed in I got one and I have found it great. It dries well and I can program it to wash and then dry in the one program. I do still put some clothes on radiators and use clothes line outside in warmer months and I haven’t seen a significant increase in electricity bill. Wish I got my washer dryer earlier and wouldn’t be without a dishwasher life is too short to stand washing dishes

sbhydrogen · 11/03/2021 20:17

I've got both, I love them equally.

Ragwort · 11/03/2021 20:17

We have both but rarely use the dryer, but we are lucky to have enough room to leave clothes drying in a spare room. I love the dishwasher but my DH hates it ... if I ever go away he refuses to use it Grin.

RoseMartha · 11/03/2021 20:18

I have a washer and slimline dishwasher.
I live in a flat.

But never been keen on washer dryers so do without.

therocinante · 11/03/2021 20:18

Have a dryer, couldn't be without it - tiny house with damp issues and no garden, so it's a must or we'd never get bedsheets etc dry.

Had a dishwasher where I used to live and thought it wasn't worth it, don't have one here and don't miss it.

speakout · 11/03/2021 20:19

We all have different lifestyles & priorities.
I have a dishwasher and wouldn't like to be without it, but dont really want a tumble drier.
I have had a drier in the past but feel it it is a waste of power.
But then I am at home all day and able to line dry all year round in my garden.
I also have space in my house for a couple of drying racks.
If I lived in a small flat with no outdoor drying area I think a drier would be invaluable.

TiddleTaddleTat · 11/03/2021 20:20

They are both so worth it!!

Clementine8 · 11/03/2021 20:21

We only had space for one and went for a dryer because i hate having damp washing out. I spoke to a bosch engineer before getting it and he said he would not touch a washer dryer with a barge pole.

Ellpellwood · 11/03/2021 20:23

Washer dryer and a slimline dishwasher here, 2 adults and a toddler. We use both every day. I tumble dry underwear, towels, sheets and toddler stuff.

That said, the dryer takes 2 lots of 2.5 hours to do a load. It's not particularly expensive bills wise but I would advise buying the best you can afford. A £300 Hotpoint we had broke yearly for 8 years. Our £600 LG is 4 years in and fine.

JaceLancs · 11/03/2021 20:25

Small kitchen and no utility so I have a washer/dryer and no dishwasher
I only dry certain things and do smaller loads to avoid ironing so quite economical

SpeckledyHen · 11/03/2021 20:25

Both and wouldn’t want it any other way .

Tana433 · 11/03/2021 20:27

I have a dryer outside in my garage. Wouldnt be without it for things like bedding and towels. Its not massivly expensive to run and i do still use my line on nice days. This house had a little table-top dishwasher in it when we moved in but i gave it to my sister to give me more counter space. I dont mind washing up but then there are only two of us now, i might feel differently if i had a large family at home.

PaddingtonsSister · 11/03/2021 20:28

Both are essential drying clothes on radiators causes damp in the house far more expensive than the dryer Dishwasher uses less water than washing by hand and is more hygienic

BigMamaFratelli · 11/03/2021 20:28

I used to have both but since I moved we just have a dryer. I miss my dishwasher, and since there's six of us I feel like I'm always washing up. But I really couldn't live without my dryer. I've done 12 loads of laundry already this week - No way I could have got all that dry without it!

activitythree · 11/03/2021 20:32

I have both, but the dryer and washing machine are separates. Aside from all the bad things I have read about washer/dryers i don't know how it works because I often have both on at the same time. If I had to wait an age to dry the first load before I could do another my washing pile would be permanently huge

Iwouldbecomplex · 11/03/2021 20:38

Dishwasher used every other day, dryer maybe once a month tops

swampytiggaa · 11/03/2021 20:43

Use my dryer pretty much every day sometimes several times a day. Never had or felt the need for a dishwasher.

speakout · 11/03/2021 20:44

Not always esssential.
I don;t have a tumble drier- I line dry, can get stuff at least 70% dry even on a cold winter's day.
I then rack dry in a spare room with windows open. No damp.

theliverpoolone · 11/03/2021 20:44

I'm really happy with my washer/dryer. I mainly only use the dryer for towels, but have always found it dries fine provided it's not over filled. I've got a space for a separate dryer, but then I'd have no room for a bin! I also have a dishwasher - don't use it every day though, as there's only me and dd.

CounsellorTroi · 11/03/2021 20:45

Got a dishwasher but we hardly ever use it except when entertaining (pre-covid) or Christmas. No dryer.

WhenLifeReturns · 11/03/2021 20:46

We have both and they are life savers. I used to spend an hour in the kitchen every lunch & dinner time just washing up/cleaning kitchen and now its only 20mins.

The dryer was purchased recently as we was struggling to keep up with the towels/three lots of bed sheets and clothes (4 people) I would highly recommend. It is expensive to run but doesn't go on every day

tararabumdeay · 11/03/2021 20:47

Bought a second hand washer dryer off ebay for £50 fourteen years ago and it's still works.

I don't think it would cope with baby/young family washing machine rigours but would rather have a washer dryer than a dishwasher.

Washing up can be done in the morning and no-one suffers. Clothes, on the other hand, are sometimes specific so need sorting pdq.

LongIslandIcedT · 11/03/2021 20:49

I have both, I love my dishwasher so much, we had a re-jig of our kitchen to squeeze one in.
We've only recently been given a 2nd hand dryer, it lives in the garage, it has been invaluable over the winter no more wet washing hanging in the house for 2 or more days and barely needed the dehumidifier this year.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/03/2021 20:49

Never had a dryer , got a dishwasher when I was first working again with two small children and would miss it hugely if it went. As far as a dryer is concerned I did used to feel a bit envious in the spring and autumn months ( ie no central heating on) with bed wetting DC when it was raining and I had sheets dangling all over the place but it has always felt a bit unnecessary and wasteful to me so I never bit the bullet. Looking at some laundry threads I suspect that owning one can make one a bit profligate as far as clothes and towel washing is concerned.
