To ask whether you have a dryer and/ or dishwasher?

We have never had the money or room for either but I need a new washer anyway.

I don't think I'd use the dishwasher however if I got the drier I wouldn't need to have the airer in the kitchen. Obviously most washer / driers are double the cost of a washer on its own.

My parents had a dryer over 20 years ago and I remember my dad saying they cost a lot to run.

Are either worth it?

Couldn't live without my drier. Don't have a dishwasher any more but considering getting another one.

BlackBucketOfCheese · 11/03/2021 19:46

I nearly cried when our kitchen designer ballsed up our kitchen design, meaning the builders thought they couldn’t fit a dishwasher into the room.

I have both a dryer and a dishwasher.
The dishwasher is used daily, the dryer is only really used in the rain and the very cold winter.
I would much rather have a dishwasher, to the point I always have a specific amount of money set to one side just to replace it, if it ever broke.

PurBal · 11/03/2021 19:47

Dishwasher daily. We have a dryer which we use in winter, but I wouldn't buy a washer dryer personally.

EcoCustard · 11/03/2021 19:47

Have both. Wouldn’t be without either. Dishwasher saves a lot of time and is very economical water wise. Have a tumble dryer in the utility room next to the washer. It gets used daily in winter. If I can dry outside I will from now to late Autumn. Except towels they get tumbled to keep them fluffy. Had both when just a couple and a must now we have 4 kids.

Mrsbclinton · 11/03/2021 19:47

We have a drier no dishwasher.

Family of 5
I still use the airer in winter. I leave clothes on it over night then finsh drying them off in dryer in the morning. I wouldn’t use it in the summer as I line dry on fine days.
I dont have room for a dishwasher but would love one so after dinner I could put everything in switch it on and boom the dishes are done 😜

nocoolnamesleft · 11/03/2021 19:49

When I had a dishwasher I never used it. I use the drier regularly.

Strangekindofwoman · 11/03/2021 19:50

I have both. Wouldn't be without the dishwasher but rarely use the drier.

ellabluebella · 11/03/2021 19:50

We chose to buy a dryer over a dishwasher.
There is only 2 of us but both wear uniforms and prefer to limit the amount of constant drying laundry hung around the house.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 11/03/2021 19:53

We have both and I couldn’t live without a dryer but I can live without a dishwasher. I don’t use my dishwasher much

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/03/2021 19:54

I have neither and don't want them.

soupmaker · 11/03/2021 19:54

Family of 4 here. We have a small kitchen but large garden with original 1930s washing line poles. So I went for the dishwasher. Use it daily. Have a pulley for small stuff and a heated airier for winter time and rainy days. I live in Glasgow where it rains a lot. Have never wished I had a drier. In winter the beds sometimes manage to not get changed for 10 days!

Fuckityfucksake · 11/03/2021 19:55

I have both
Dishwasher - never gets used. It's like a kitchen ornament.
Dryer - I hadn't had one for years but bought one last Nov because I was fed up of having to calculate how much washing I could do in a load to match how many radiators I have. I love it!
I much prefer line drying but the dryer is handy for the winter.

itsasin77 · 11/03/2021 19:56

We have a separate heat pump condenser dryer and a dishwasher.
I use both daily.
If you get a decent energy rates one they don’t cost an awful lot to use.
We are a 6 person family, have 3 showers, working from home and electronics everywhere and honestly my electric payment hvent gone up much at all over winter.
It’s all about getting cost effective high energy rates appliances.
Whatever you do, DO NOT get a washer dryer, they are utterly crap and bloody dangerous after having one explode on me 20yrs ago! Never had one since.

yummytummy · 11/03/2021 19:58

i've never had either and never missed them. only me and dcs and we dont create a lot of washing up. plus only one set of dishes anyway can wash everything quicker than a what 1 hour cycle or whatever it is. same with washing have airers and pegged out in spring/summer

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 11/03/2021 19:58

Both. If I had to choose, the dishwasher. I've been fortunate enough to live in houses with separate utility rooms and have room for a washer and a dryer. If you do lots of washing, especially with kids, a dryer is great.

RedPandaMama · 11/03/2021 19:58

Recently got a dryer. Life-changing. I don't care how much my electric costs go up, I'm so terrible at keeping on top of washing and before it would take me 3 days to dry a few loads of stuff. Now I have everything washed, dried and put away in one day.

shouldistop · 11/03/2021 19:59

We have both and I'm not sure I could do without them now but at a push I'd give up the dishwasher. I wash a lot of clothes with a muddy 4yo and refluxy baby, and live in the west of Scotland where it's too wet to dry clothes outside for most of the year.

StCharlotte · 11/03/2021 20:01

I have both. Could easily lose the dishwasher as there are only the two of us here but I'd get rid of DH before I got rid of the dryer.

Superstardjs · 11/03/2021 20:02

There was a dishwasher in the house I recently moved into and I got rid of it. It is neither luxury nor necessity for me. I love my dryer though and I use it whenever I can't have things on the line, as I hate having damp laundry hanging around.

AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2021 20:03

If I didn't have room for dishwasher, washing machine and dryer I would go for a combined washer/dryer rather than forgo the dishwasher.

rhowton · 11/03/2021 20:03

We have both. We use tumble dryer almost daily in the winter but stop over summer. We use the dishwasher, sometimes twice a day.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 11/03/2021 20:05

My dishwasher packed up a few weeks ago, had to wait for delivery so was without one for just over a week.

I don't like to talk about the trauma tbh

HeronLanyon · 11/03/2021 20:09

I have a washer dryer. Have never used the dryer function.
I do not have a dishwasher. During Covid one would have been useful (so much washing up eating everything here and so much cooking). Post Covid i don’t want one and never have.

GOODCAT · 11/03/2021 20:10

Have a dishwasher and a washing machine but not a tumble drier. Had the dishwasher because my husband had one when I met him. I would find it hard to go back to not having one, but could cope.

Don't have a problem with not having a drier as either dry outside or use airers. My parents had a tumble drier as did my husband when I met him. When my husband's drier died we didn't replace it as we weren't using it much. If we didn't have anywhere for indoor airers, I would have one.

If it were a choice between the two, I would go for the dishwasher as that would save me more time than a drier.

TheGumption · 11/03/2021 20:11

We have both. If I had to pick one to keep it would be my dryer I think.. I hate washing up but we have 4 kids so without a dryer I'd have never-ending laundry hanging around the house drying.
