To get this person into trouble?

I was purchasing some furniture a couple of months back through Instagram. I put a deposit down through PayPal and then the person blocked me. I paid through ‘friends and family’ therefore no payment protection.

Very annoyed with myself but learnt from the incident.

Logged into my PayPal last night and saw the person still in my contacts. They have now updated their email address to their work email - think [email protected]

I’m tempted to contacted their place of work seeing as they’ve linked an account that scams people to their work address.

Aibu or should I just leave it?

Well done! If he's going to put his work email on a scam then he needs to be prepared for the consequences! I really hope the company pull him up on this.

@AWhisperWillDoIfThatsAllYouCan

You can send an email to his company email address, and CC in customer servicea or any supervisor email or whatever that you can find on their website.

Be all breezy and say something like, "As shown in the attached image, I paid a deposit for X item but have not received any communication. As the PayPal accound concerned is linked to this company, is there someone else who can help me deal with getting my refund or getting the item I have paid a deposit for?"

Yes, this!
JollyGreenGiantess · 11/03/2021 08:22

Oh my god you absolute legend OP.

Thehop · 11/03/2021 08:24

Brilliant. Well done OP. Keep us posted on the little cock nostril.

OscarWildesCat · 11/03/2021 08:28

OT but cock nostril is being added to my list of insults for my dickhead ex BiL. Brilliant!. Hope you get some resolution OP, I’d have definitely done similar.

44PumpLane · 11/03/2021 08:29

I genuinely love that you have sent the email OP.... So often posters pussy foot about for 13 pages then disappear without any action!! This is so satisfying!!

Hercules12 · 11/03/2021 08:35

Op - you are a hero!

luckylavender · 11/03/2021 08:36

I would email them & threaten you'll go to the company.

combatbarbie · 11/03/2021 08:51

Oh I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that company this morning. And I would report it to the police as its theft.... Regardless of whether you think they are overstretched they are duty bound to investigate, and let's face it its an easy case for them.... They just rock up at his work!!

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 09:27

Brilliant! :o What a legend

PinkiOcelot · 11/03/2021 09:41

I hope you get some come back.

Iwishiwereheather · 11/03/2021 10:04

Had a reply at 7am! Wow, was not expecting such a quick response. Makes me think the company is worried about this ... maybe.

Anyway, not much to update - they asked questions about money amount, times, dates, did I dispute through PayPal etc

But they basically ended it with once I’ve responded then they will do a thorough investigation with their associate.

I have responded, so now I just wait. But like I said even if I get told to go away by the company and don’t get my money back that’s fine (already accepted the money is gone) because by the sounds of it they will be speaking to him - so squeaky bum time for old scammy.

Bmidreams · 11/03/2021 10:10

Wow! Good work! How much have you paid?

Bicnod · 11/03/2021 10:13

Yes!!! Well done OP. I hope you get your money back (or your piece of furniture??!!)

Whatandwhen · 11/03/2021 10:13

🔥 yaaaassss. Go on gal. Theyre probably worried about their reputation and Mr Scammer will also be embarrassed about his colleagues/employees learning about this.

How much did you pay, if you don’t mind me asking?

OlympicProcrastinator · 11/03/2021 10:18

so squeaky bum time for old scammy

This made me laugh so hard Grin You are a legend OP. He will pay the price now. Even if you don’t actually get your money back.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 11/03/2021 10:19

That's a good start!!

The company replying so quickly seems to indicate them taking it seriously & that person having enough seniority to do so 🤞🏼

Somethingsnappy · 11/03/2021 10:20

It's so satisfying when someone gets properly caught out for this type of thing. Well done OP!

Porridgeoat · 11/03/2021 10:27

I’m impressed op!!

How much cash did you lose

thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear · 11/03/2021 10:27

Brilliant - so glad you followed it up! I’m currently awaiting the outcome of a PayPal claim and I aim so annoyed about it. I think we will get the money back in this case as the item was purchased through a selling website as goods, but it was something expensive that my DS saved up for and it was awful to see him so upset.

namechange7567785544 · 11/03/2021 10:28

How much money did you lose?

radioband · 11/03/2021 10:40

This is brill!

Iwishiwereheather · 11/03/2021 10:42

It was only £250, but regardless I think scamming someone for any amount is terrible. Easy money, if you’ve got no morals.

Definitely won’t be getting the furniture - Id be more shocked if that ever existed at this point.

Had another email. Kind of asking me the same questions which I already answered so to be honest I’m not holding out much hope for anything to be done.

Usagi12 · 11/03/2021 10:44

I work in HR and if we were provided with the evidence you've stated we would dismiss the employee no question.

Usagi12 · 11/03/2021 10:45

It may take a bit of time for them to go through the investigation and disciplinary process so you may not hear back for a week or two.
