To get this person into trouble?

Iwishiwereheather · 10/03/2021 21:27

I was purchasing some furniture a couple of months back through Instagram. I put a deposit down through PayPal and then the person blocked me. I paid through ‘friends and family’ therefore no payment protection.

Very annoyed with myself but learnt from the incident.

Logged into my PayPal last night and saw the person still in my contacts. They have now updated their email address to their work email - think [email protected]

I’m tempted to contacted their place of work seeing as they’ve linked an account that scams people to their work address.

Aibu or should I just leave it?

I've been rooting for you. Someone's obviously had words with the fucker so I would assume he's blocked everyone he's scammed. I doubt you're the only one.

I hope he's in deep shit. In an ideal world you would get your money back but I don't think you are expecting that. Someone has at least held him to account.

Gemma2019 · 26/03/2021 21:24

OP I didn't think you could block people on a PayPal personal account, only a business account. Maybe his account has been suspended instead?

Would love to know how the investigations are going and I wonder if he is even still employed by the company?

I still hope you will do the online small claims form and send to his work address - you can add the fees to the claim so won't be out of pocket.

NotSorry · 27/03/2021 08:22

@Myshitisreal

Agree these people never stop at one person

@Gemma2019 it crossed my mind is he still employed there

OP, thank you for the update, have been following your thread rooting for you - if nothing else his company now know he is a lying, thieving scumbag

Iwishiwereheather · 29/03/2021 13:30

Update - the company don’t give a shit.

OP posts:
stackemhigh · 29/03/2021 13:43

What happened OP? Sad

stackemhigh · 29/03/2021 13:44

@Jillybons

Personally I wouldn’t which is clearly an unpopular opinion! I would call them out on it though and message them on LinkedIn and say that they need to refund you and stop this. It’s totally shitty of them but I just don’t think it’s worth their job
You sound awful Jilly.

Gutted OP - but he will have had a few days of bricking it, at least.
Iwishiwereheather · 29/03/2021 13:51

@stackemhigh

What happened OP? Sad
The director emailed me calling me “madam” said they had audited the company and my money was not found. They will look into it further if I provide more evidence.
OP posts:
stackemhigh · 29/03/2021 13:53

Sorry to hear that. Could you take it to small claims court?

baileys6904 · 29/03/2021 13:54

Take a screen shot of the transaction then post it to them on their social media accounts

AndAPartridgeInABearTree · 29/03/2021 13:55

I completely agree with your approach but realistically the money was never going to be 'found' in the company because you sent it to the personal email address.

But the fact 'Scott' has changed his email address suggests he's been spoken to so let's hope he was investigated and at least reprimanded.

MindGrapes · 29/03/2021 14:00

Of course they weren't going to find the money in the company but they're covering their arse and are now able to tick off that they've "done something".
I assume they won't be too happy at the employee who's necessitated the audit.

FenceSplinters · 29/03/2021 14:07

Oh I was so hoping you would get the money back. £250 is a lot of money to lose in my books!

Gemma2019 · 29/03/2021 14:07

Email back saying thanks for your reply and just to let you know I will be filing a claim with the small claims court to Scott Scammer care of your company address in 28 days time. See if they reply.

youshallnotpass9 · 29/03/2021 14:11

@Iwishiwereheather

Update - the company don’t give a shit.
You have taken him changing everything to mean that someone has had a word, it is just as possible that they have fired him under a social media section in his contract.

They wouldn't tell you either way

rjacksmiss · 29/03/2021 15:25

I'm in Glasgow! Send his name and workplace and I'll go embarrass him x

rjacksmiss · 29/03/2021 15:26

@baileys6904

Take a screen shot of the transaction then post it to them on their social media accounts
Yes!
Idontgiveagriffindamn · 29/03/2021 16:52

I’m sorry your annoyed by the company but I’m not sure what you expected from them? The transaction was done to a personal email address. He then changed it to his work email address and the company have addressed that.
If they are a large professional company then he is likely to have contravened the social media policy and some form of action will likely have been taken. They will not tell you what action as I believe it would contravene GDPR.
The only way you would have got your money back is if he felt remorse and sent it back. The company were not going to give it back to you as it was not their responsibility to do that so I think it’s a bit harsh to say they don’t give a fuck.

Blindstupid · 29/03/2021 20:55

I said up thread idont - that’s it’s NOT the company who is at fault, it’s not their responsibility. I honestly don’t see why everyone is gunning for the company, it’s nothing to do with them. They didn’t rip off the OP. It’s a shame the OP didn’t go to the police or action fraud, she’d have had a better chance ... but I was pretty slated for it. I’m sorry you’ve gone through this OP, but really, you’d be much better off going through proper official channels, not gunning for an innocent company.

Have just read this thread and am gutted for you, OP. It's not too late to report to police, etc if you want to take it further. Whatever you decide to do, I hope karma brings you something good and he gets his backside bitten really hard.Flowers

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 29/03/2021 23:18

@Iwishiwereheather

Well the original email was scott.smith82@ (not their real address) but then now I’ve looked again they updated it to scott.smith@bigcompany. - it is a legit company and the email format is the same.

So yes could be fake but the fact that they had the same name both times I’’ guessing they must either be the person or know the person they are pretending to be.

Why not call and ask for the HR contact. Send an email HR sending the details of what happened., ask if they can help. They could say they don't work there or they could help. Worth a shot.

I hate with a passion, little shits that do this to others without a conscience.

Blindstupid · 30/03/2021 17:30

OP .., at no point have I said this was hilarious. And I’m certainly not some sad vulture - THAT’S hilarious. I keep checking to see if you’ve got anywhere and got your money back. I’ve said I’m sorry this has happened to you and that £250 is a lot to lose and just forget about. I said the best way to try was to go through the police or cyber/action fraud, not to pursue a company who has nothing to do with it. I’ve certainly not bullied you and have NEVER been racist! To call me that says more about you than me. You mentioned race completely out of the blue for no reason at all. Nowhere in this thread has race ever come into it, other than when you yourself mentioned it.

As I’ve said before, I hope you get your money back, but there’s better ways of achieving this.

I’ve never been horrible to you OP, I’ve said you’ve lost a lot of money and I hope you get it back ... you come back with disgusting insults. You need to take a good look at yourself. Good that you reported to action fraud - that must have been very recent given that all the way through you’ve flatly refused. Again, I hope you get your money back - but if you treat others the way you’re treating me you’ve not got much chance.
