To get this person into trouble?

I was purchasing some furniture a couple of months back through Instagram. I put a deposit down through PayPal and then the person blocked me. I paid through ‘friends and family’ therefore no payment protection.

Very annoyed with myself but learnt from the incident.

Logged into my PayPal last night and saw the person still in my contacts. They have now updated their email address to their work email - think [email protected]

I’m tempted to contacted their place of work seeing as they’ve linked an account that scams people to their work address.

Aibu or should I just leave it?

I only saw mrgrinch’s first comment after others copied it. Didn’t see the second one.

Don’t know why I’m as bad when I said there was no need to rub it in about OP doing something stupid - OP already knew and said she was stupid for paying in that way.

I don’t understand the rest of your comment.

I don’t want anything from you OP, and I haven’t forced you to do anything. Nowhere has race ever been mentioned so you’ve completely bamboozled me there.

MaMaD1990 · 17/03/2021 22:14

@Blindstupid Agreeing with the one person who was quite nasty probably wasnt your best move, even if you did say calling someone stupid wasn't nice. Maybe read between the lines next time and choose not to post.

Blindstupid · 17/03/2021 22:16

It’s not wasting police time when you’ve been defrauded - whether it was your fault or not. You were still defrauded.

Iwishiwereheather · 17/03/2021 22:20

@StopGuacAndRoll

Right let me get this straight.

You’re the idiot who pays for goods using friends and family, now you’re spouting off about the FCA which is NOTHING to do with buying a bed?

Right ok

The FCA regulates the company. I’m pretty certain I said that I would never contact them. But sure

No I will post thanks. The OP herself said she was stupid. I said she did a stupid thing - that’s different to being stupid by the way. But my point still stands, gunning now for an innocent company is wrong - going through the proper channels is best, and would have been more useful at the time.

Iwishiwereheather · 17/03/2021 22:21

Keep posting Blindstupid if you want but siding with someone who finds the situation hilarious then I wouldn’t want to waste my time talking to someone who thinks the idea of victims of fraud is hilarious - I won’t be responding to you further.

OP posts:
Emeraldshamrock · 17/03/2021 22:22

I also wouldn’t waste police resources on my own mistake. That could take help away from a more vulnerable person.
You wouldn't be wasting time, I'd flag it up with them.
I'm sorry some posters are deliberately winding you up. Ignore them.
I hope karma bites the robbing bastard in the arse. Flowers

Roszie · 17/03/2021 22:23

The police won't do a thing.

I hope you get your money back OP Thanks

Blindstupid · 17/03/2021 22:26

I don’t think any of this is hilarious. I’ve said to report through the correct channels because you were defrauded is best .., I’ve said £250 is a lot to lose.

Iwishiwereheather · 17/03/2021 22:30

Thanks MaMaD1990, Emeraldshamrock and Roszie

(Sorry not been able to thank others individually - just know I’ve read all comments and appreciate them!)

Lochroy · 17/03/2021 22:40

I think everything you have done is spot on and fully justified. Even if you don't get your money back, it sounds like it's being looked into and the scammer should get their comeuppance.

Iwishiwereheather · 17/03/2021 22:42

Thanks Lochroy - I was starting to doubt myself.

OP posts:
YouKnowItsTrue · 17/03/2021 22:44

I hope he gets his comeuppance from his company and you get your money back. I doubt they will let it slide. If they are investigating it still then I think you stand a good chance of a refund. Fingers crossed for you OP Flowers

YouKnowItsTrue · 17/03/2021 22:44

X post Lochroy!

Psuedoshoes · 17/03/2021 22:45

I think you're a legend, OP!

HereIfYouNeedMe · 17/03/2021 22:51

@NotSorry I'm so happy about the bookmark!! Thank you! The amount of times I've had to scroll through 1000 messages to find my place 🥲🤦🏻‍♀️

Emeraldshamrock · 17/03/2021 23:01

@Iwishiwereheather best of luck, I'm glad his employer is aware and hopefully he feels ashamed of himself. Flowers

Goldieloxx · 17/03/2021 23:06

I'd do it and report to the Police

NotSorry · 17/03/2021 23:08

@HereIfYouNeedMe

You’re welcome! Smile

MadeForThis · 17/03/2021 23:09

@Iwishiwereheather
Have you checked the PayPal account again? If he has changed the email address you can be sure his company have confronted him with the allegation.

Iwishiwereheather · 17/03/2021 23:26

Thanks everyone, appreciate it.

His email is still the same company one and his profile photo is still the company logo.

StoneofDestiny · 17/03/2021 23:57

Don't let up on it OP - anybody can be a victim of a thief - and that is what they are. All sane people are rooting for you.

Gemma2019 · 18/03/2021 01:32

I think there are very few people who can genuinely say they haven't ever been caught out or scammed in some way.

I've been thinking a lot about this thread and it's actually quite chilling to think that scamming and theft is so rife now that even people employed in respectable jobs can just steal £250 without a second thought, as they know that there is usually bugger all that can be done about it. I desperately want this bastard to get his comeuppance and OP to get her money back. It makes no difference what OP did or didn't do - theft is theft!
