I didn’t know places like this existed in London! So Am I being unreasonable in thinking that it would be amazing? Or is there something I’m missing?!

I reckon the agent OP, is the same one who has been trying to sell some new 'senior' apartments to some people in my village - on the fringes of our local market town... just off a busy A-road, some 2 miles from the shops.

All the bungalows in our village (and the small cottages,) a total of 50-ish properties in all, has had a flyer through the letterbox, for this apartment complex of 56 apartments... (They are actually bedsits IMO, and they have a lounge/diner/kitchen all in one, and one bedroom with an ensuite. No separate bathroom and no separate kitchen...)

These 'apartments' boast a 'great view of the garden' and a great social life with the other occupants. A shared community lounge (with a TV!) A games room with a pool table, a darts board, bingo every Wednesday, and a quiz every Friday. They also organise walking groups. You do have to pay £50 per person a month to be in this 'club' though.

The price of the apartments... £325,000 for the one-bed one, and £400,000 for the 2 bed one. Only 12 of the 2-bed ones are up for grabs though! (North midlands by the way...)

As I say, these flyers have come to some of the homes in the village, and they are aiming them at people who live in a lovely little rural village, in a cosy bungalow or cottage, (mostly paid for as they're over 50,) with a big garden, a 2 to 4 car driveway, a shed, and a garage, 10 minutes walk from woodlands, and a canal, and a river. It also has a pub, a little parish hall, and a Church. (And lots of hobby groups, and community groups...when there is no covid!)

And they ASSUME that they'd give this up, to pay potentially £400,000 for a 'bedsit,' in a complex of 56 bedsits, with no private garden, no shed, and no garage, 2 miles from the shops, and 100 yards from a busy, main A-road?

Absolutely batshit. No-one is going to do that. Many people have a decent amount of equity on their home, but would still probably have to take out a mortgage of £200K or so at the age of 50 plus. Who the F wants to do THAT for a glorified bedsit, when they have their home (that is much better, and in a much better place, and is virtually paid for?!)

@Nothinglikeachocolatebrownie

I am definitely not working for the agent. I have NOTHING to do with this listing. I just came across it and thought it was nice, that's all.
Name change fail? Wink
Nothinglikeachocolatebrownie · 09/03/2021 14:15

Nope! It's me - my computer just logs me in under a different name. Honestly - who cares anyway. I am definitely not an agent but look, if you want to assume I am then go ahead!

Cookiecrumblepie · 09/03/2021 14:17

See this is my posting from my phone. I am not an agent, just someone who isn’t the best with tech that has another account saved on my phone

Not being funny, but I don't think anyone cares enough to go and check.

People are just saying they think you're an agent, because you are saying an average terraced house in a questionable area of London would be MAGICAL to live in!

Why you think that is unfathomable.

It's just a bit odd that anyone would put a post like this on.. That is why you've got so many (negative) responses, and so many saying you must be the agent who is selling the house.

Cookiecrumblepie · 09/03/2021 14:39

Oh, well maybe I just have a lower budget and/or expectations than most on mumsnet. I currently live in a pretty grim council flat so for me it would be magical. But each to their own.

"Oh, well maybe I just have a lower budget and/or expectations than most on mumsnet"

I see what you did there. Blame MN for having high expectations. Nah, the property you're trying to sell just isn't "magical", that's the long and short of it.

If you'd posted something unusual or even nice then possibly, but it's a plainly decorated mid terrace.

Take a look at this OP, it's cheaper than the Streatham shoebox too!

It's in fucking Streatham

Skyliner001 · 10/03/2021 08:32

It looks utterly soulless, and the communal outdoor space would probably be a nightmare as no doubt there would be a committee…

You could just commit a serious but non-violent crime, and live in a cad C or D prison for free
jaundicedoutlook · 10/03/2021 08:34

Is it just me, or is it a slightly odd response to point out what you could get for the same money in Scotland or Wales or Newcastle or any other place where property prices are a fraction of what they are in London.

Now, personally, I don’t much like the property the OP has put up, but if you had tat budget to spend and you needed / wanted to live in London then you could certainly do a lot worse.

Showing us pictures of Downton Abbey on the outskirts of Blackburn and saying you can get it for £50,000 and two bags of coal is, to put it bluntly, a load of old cobblers.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 10/03/2021 08:34

It looks a bit sparse to me, all that blank white space. And the "403 Forbidden" written on the ceiling would be a bugger to paint over...

DavidsSchitt · 10/03/2021 08:41

"Showing us pictures of Downton Abbey on the outskirts of Blackburn and saying you can get it for £50,000 and two bags of coal is, to put it bluntly, a load of old cobblers."

What do you mean a "load of old cobblers"? I think you've used that saying out of context here. Unless you mean that Downton Abbey isn't on the outskirts of Blackburn in which case you'd be correct.

In this case, the OP admits to not knowing London, states she's fantasising about a "lottery win" property and sharing it it as if it is unusual, "I never know this existed in London" Grin ok. Then describes it as "magical" for the clicks.

As it is allegedly a lottery win dream house thread, it's not out of context to share better, more "magical" properties in other areas.

PhillipPhillop · 10/03/2021 08:58

Either house next to it might be an improvement being wider but this house is only 13ft wide! The noise from both sides eek! Love the garage/storage blurb, obviously no storage in the house. The 2nd link on the same development is much nicer. More in keeping with living on a country estate.

pinkearedcow · 10/03/2021 11:11

littlepattilou that sounds similar to a development near me, which has the added bonus of a heart stopping view of a 24 hour fast food place! Those places are a con, I bet the service charges are a rip off too.

pinkearedcow · 10/03/2021 11:12

Oh, it has now magically vanished!

CuntyMcBollocks · 10/03/2021 12:29

@pinkearedcow

Oh no! You're right. I wanted another look at the drab walls and pokey patio. It must have been too magical for the likes of us lot to look at.
TedMullins · 10/03/2021 12:44

I can’t open the link either but let’s be honest it’s not ‘average’ to live in a gated community with an orchard in London! It might not be magical but it’s hardly run of the mill. You could get more house space for your money even in London though, you’d easily get a 3 or 4 bed semi with garden in south east for around 500k

anamazingfind · 10/03/2021 12:56

As someone born in central London and moved to SW2 I would not live there for any money! Will stay in my boring rural village.

Is it not showing up on the agent’s website for you?
