I didn’t know places like this existed in London! So Am I being unreasonable in thinking that it would be amazing? Or is there something I’m missing?!

OP posts:
daisypond · 08/03/2021 17:25

It’s a decent/reasonable price for London. But miles from the tube- a lot of south London is cheaper because of that. But I don’t especially like it. It’s bland inside. And the service charge will be huge. It’s a non-starter for me just because of that.

MMAMPWGHAP · 08/03/2021 17:28

Look at the aerial view on google. That’s part of a new development at the back. Don’t think it has a view of those grounds, just a courtyard garden.

Mumblechum0 · 08/03/2021 17:30

A shared garden is no garden in my book. Couldn't bear to feel that other people would just wander in and start talking to me :-D

PickAChew · 08/03/2021 17:30

It's a rather unremarkable townhouse but the grounds are spectacular. I bet you have to pay through the nose for them. I tried to go back to check if there was any mention of that but we've killed the website.

I'm assuming the kitchen has had some space taken from the garage because there's very few cars would fit in a 12' long one.

MrMucker · 08/03/2021 17:31

Charlie who's manning the chat box through the link in the OP is suddenly all commission-charged sitting up straight.
Someone ought to tell Charlie Chat it's just nosy mumsnetters so they can clock off before dark.

FatherBuzzCagney · 08/03/2021 17:31

Nothing magical about Streatham.

Oh I don't know, it used to have an Italian restaurant with an Elvis impersonator, which was definitely special, if not magical.

jaundicedoutlook · 08/03/2021 17:36

My only real recollection of Streatham, aside from the fact that half of all London buses seem to terminate there, was driving past a massive night club with a huge Roman style chariot stuck on the front.

Don’t know if it’s still there, but certainly memorable.

I was just thinking they must be wondering why that house is suddenly getting so many hits!

Wait, what? My sis will be wondering how she missed that.

She came to something similar round here saying she wished they had stuff like that in St Reatham.

LostToucan · 08/03/2021 17:47

There used to be a Chinese Elvis impersonator on the Old Kent Road too.

Ah yes - the Gracelands Palace. There was another branch in Tunbridge Wells (perhaps surprisingly) which ended in unfortunate circumstances.

The photo in the article is pretty much the definition of bathos.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/03/2021 18:02

That apartment is LOVELY in the main house overlooking the parkland 😍

A good size at 1466 square feet

MrMucker · 08/03/2021 18:08

Ahaha, website down!
It's either OP quickly reconfiguring the images and description of the awful orchard set up after the market research here, or else people, we broke it.

HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 08/03/2021 18:33

OMG. I think the Italian restaurant was Il Carretto, which I don't think is there anymore.

FuckingFabulous · 08/03/2021 19:38

Magical?

No. I think it would be overpriced, boxed in, bog standard, soulless housing with an above average view/immediate walking vicinity.

I certainly wouldn't be paying that much for housing that's pretty much equivalent to the flat pack

Dream bigger, OP!

Oblomov21 · 08/03/2021 19:49

Looks vile from picture 1. The only good thing about it is the gardens.

Tal45 · 08/03/2021 19:50

Uggghhh I'd never want to live in London again, 2 years was more than enough. £750,000 for that souless place and ugly little patio? Lets face it none of the rest of the grounds look like you're welcome to have a BBQ and lounge around on them, they probably have signs saying keep off the grass!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/03/2021 19:52

It doesn’t rock my boat, it’s bland, it needs personality

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/03/2021 19:57

@MrsL2016

It's a typical mews house. They were built for the staff that worked in the nearby grand house. Lovely setting.
I think you’ll find it’s a modern development. The “Mews” is just to give it “cute” appeal.
MrsGRamsay · 08/03/2021 20:00

This is the first time I’ve bothered to post without reading whole post but do appreciate OP grabbing onto the lifeline thrown by innocent bystander along lines of “ye not be from aroun’ these parts me lovely?” by be-claiming / trilling “gosh no! I’ve never ventured thus!” Instead of admitting she works for ‘Fuxtons’; too shit to be represented by reputable agents.

LunaHeather · 08/03/2021 20:10

What I wonder with modern terraces is - what's the soundproofing like?

MrsGRamsay · 08/03/2021 20:12

Ooh. Just did search on OP; complaining about cleaner not arriving on time etc. because issues with Oyster Card. OP then does the ‘my cleaner should be honoured to be asked to clean my one bed, minimalist flat’ rage - presumably because in London - given aforesaid Oyster Card ref.

Hard to big up what is essentially a Barratt box though, despite its “magical” location.

Although, I live in a similar set up
and we can pretty much run wild in our communal park.

CoRhona · 08/03/2021 20:15

It's in Streatham Confused

FenceFuckery · 08/03/2021 21:08

Why is the kitchen on a different floor to the living room? Who wants to schlep up and down stairs anytime they need a snack?
