I didn’t know places like this existed in London! So Am I being unreasonable in thinking that it would be amazing? Or is there something I’m missing?!

The shared outdoor space looks nice enough, but its no better than a park. You would never be able to grow veg in it, or plant flowers or lovely hedge for wildlife. Never have a private BBQ for your mates in it. None of the benefits of a garden at all.

Milkshake7489 · 08/03/2021 16:41

The grounds look lovely but it is TINY for the asking price! I know London is expensive but please tell me that's not the norm?

HeathIns · 08/03/2021 16:41

‘Tis a gated community!
Beautiful grounds but quite a bland house.
I know what you mean OP! I’d love it just for the setting.

Magical Streatham!

Ahem, Streatham Village! Sorry OP, I see what you're saying but it's not the best location (much as I like the area as a former resident).

Cookiecrumblepie · 08/03/2021 16:44

Ahaaa thanks mumsnet for pulling the wool from my eyes. I don’t know much about good and bad areas, just thought it was so picturesque and no gardening to do. So a win!

It's quite cheap for the area but would rather have a bigger private garden than the shared space.

HollowTalk · 08/03/2021 16:51

@Cookiecrumblepie

I’m not from London so that’s probably why I’m imagining it to be better than it is. I just thought for shared garden, it would have less people than a park, but be a beautiful space that is well maintained. Just looked nice and low maintenance, and still closeish to London.
But you'd be paying for the upkeep of the garden!
EssentialHummus · 08/03/2021 16:55

The garden looks magical but I agree with PP; I’d rather not pay a huge service charge but have my own manageable garden and the chance to invite people for a bbq.

Usually I come onto these threads and go weak at the knees. This time the property is significantly cheaper and (imo) less attractive than my current home so I am feeling very good about myself. Thanks for that OP Grin.

@LadyCounterblast

I've lived in the area for over a decade and this is genuinely the first time I have heard the words 'magical' and 'Streatham' in the same sentence.

Not my style but you dream on OP Grin

4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and only one reception room? No thanks.

peak2021 · 08/03/2021 17:01

Southern trains as the main means of transport.
South of the river.
No nearby cultural venues (a couple of miles away).
It's gated for a reason.

haha true

but in fairness, Streatham is not that bad!

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 08/03/2021 17:05

Nothing magical about Streatham.

LunaHeather · 08/03/2021 17:06

A couple of miles is very near in my book!
dottiedodah · 08/03/2021 17:11

Lived in a 3 bed 30s style semi in London as a child. Loved it then had enormous garden as well .Having lived near the sea in a 30s style detached house (remininscet of my GPs home ) here in Dorset wouldnt like to go back TBH. This seems a nice house but nothing to go mad over !

CecilyP · 08/03/2021 17:11

Pleasant enough- magical? No!

LadyCounterblast · 08/03/2021 17:13

Oh Streatham's fine, it's actually perfectly pleasant, especially at the Streatham Hill end. (For OP's benefit Streatham suffered a bit in the 80s and 90s, then started to smarten up and became a good place to buy if the budget wouldn't stretch to Brixton, Balham or Clapham... as such it's had a dose of the up-and-comings in recent years.) But it's not especially fancy more a practical, sound and sensible place to live.

Londonmummy66 · 08/03/2021 17:14

The location isn't great - you have a long schlep to a train station or bus stop and the nearest tube is Balham which must be a good 2.5 miles away. You also have to walk past the common to get to public transport which I wouldn't want to do in that area in the dark. Local shops are awful - other than a huge Tesco - and crime isn't good - usually some pretty dodgy characters hanging about on Streatham High Street.

Bunnyfuller · 08/03/2021 17:19

Er...no...

jaundicedoutlook · 08/03/2021 17:19

Aah St. Reatham. It’s obviously gone up in the world since we moved out of London.

ArabellaScott · 08/03/2021 17:21

Poky and bland. Not my cup of tea, sorry, OP.

I started calling it St Reatham because MN.

my sister has lived there all her adult life and was baffled 😂

Can't see the full square footage on the spec.

LostToucan · 08/03/2021 17:23

This apartment in the same development but within the original house looks interesting (and bigger):

www.winkworth.co.uk/properties/sales/henry-tate-mews-london-sw16/STH200345#about

And with this one you get your own pool - but it’s twice the price though:

Funny how none of the details of these properties mention the service charge.
