Team Meghan or Team Windsor?

Yes - Team Meghan

No - Team Windsor

Nothing - Don’t really care!

I don’t disbelieve Meghan and Harry. What they say seems largely plausible to me as an Irish person who knows about RF mainly through news articles.

I do find the ardent royalists a bit distasteful. Of course she would know X, it’s all a lie about Y. I don’t believe they can know conclusively either. Very few know what is going on in that household behind closed doors.

peak2021 · 08/03/2021 10:30

This is a wonderful piece of news for the worst government in British history. A few days coverage of something other than their incompetence and dodgy practices over the Covid 19 pandemic, and the insulting offer and defence on nurses pay.

I'm Team Let's Abolish The Monarchy and the whole weird profession of courtier and they can all go off and make their own ways in life like everyone else.

A friend's son used to be a footman and the whole set up sounds utterly bizarre, not even mentioning an actual member of the RF.

GCAcademic · 08/03/2021 10:31

I'm sure that the royal family is racist. After all, Harry clearly grew up thinking it was OK to dress as a nazi and to call his colleague a pa*i.

However, the fact that H&M claimed to have got married three days beforehand with only the two of them and the archbishop (which would be a legal impossibility) suggests that at best they are delusional and at worst they are willing to brazenly lie for personal gain. So I question how much of the rest of it is true.

I think they are all awful people, and a salutary example of what extreme privilege does to your self awareness and moral compass.

Imapotato · 08/03/2021 10:32

Team who cares. There’s almost certainly fault on both sides. We’ll never actually know all the goings on, so best just say they’re both to blame and leave it at that!

Alleycat1 · 08/03/2021 10:33

Absolute nonsense that Archie was 'refused a title'. He is not eligible for one until Charles becomes King as he is too far from the succession. Harry, at least, has to know that and did not correct the impression that Meghan's statement made. For that disingenuous comment alone I am now team palace.
Also whining about being cut of financially irritated me. They left the job and left the country. Who gets paid for a job they don't and won't do? They have millions in their own right. Just wish they would shut up.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/03/2021 10:33

I put YABU as I think it’s very likely M and H are telling the truth. Why would they have gone to these lengths unless there were really serious issues.

But yes, I agree with a pp that middle ground is probably the answer, and I also the the whole “team” business is a bit daft.

Alleycat1 · 08/03/2021 10:34

Cut off, blasted autocorrect.

RightYesButNo · 08/03/2021 10:35

@SquirtleSquad

What are we picking teams for? Is there to be a national tug-of-war?
Oooooo, in that case, I’m Team Monarchy. Even at 94, the Queen just has a bit of that steely glint in her eye that means she’d absolutely trounce someone in the tug-of-war.
ancientgran · 08/03/2021 10:35

I think Harry is the only member of the royal family I have seen in a nazi uniform. Not sure what that tells us but I wonder what Meghan makes of that.

I wondered if the vows with the Archbishop was some sort of rehearsal and they just feel that is when they made their vows to each other?

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 08/03/2021 10:36

Neither.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 08/03/2021 10:37

I do feel incredibly sorry for them about the comments regarding how dark the baby would be.

I had the same from ex in laws. I'm mixed race and they were distraught at what the people at the rotary club and the masons would think of my baby was black (I'm not black, I'm half Indian but let's not let that get in the way of a bit of racism).

As it turns out my dc had their pale colouring and blonde hair.

But it's horrible to hear that when you are pregnant.

AlandAnna · 08/03/2021 10:40

Team popcorn

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/03/2021 10:40

I feel sorry for them about those comments about the baby’s skin colour. How awful. And for Harry about feeling unsupported by his Dad, and the lack of understanding bearing in mind the same had happened to his Mum.

I think it shows without doubt that anyone marrying into the royal family and expecting to carry on with any kind of normality/ to act as a private citizen would is on a losing wicket. You are completely controlled if you are in, and the press will make mince meat of you if they want and can.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 08/03/2021 10:41

@Radio4Rocks

He's married his mother. Weak men often do.

#teamQueenie

I think this, sadly, probably sums it up.

On a side note, I was very annoyed by the interviewer on radio 4 this morning calling MM ‘young woman’. At mid/late 30s, I think we can drop the young. It’s very patronising.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/03/2021 10:41

I’m republican too though!

Scarlettpixie · 08/03/2021 10:42
@CandyLeBonBon

"Yabu to have yet another thread on this whole tedious topic. Ffs"

Should we keep AIBU for another parent and child parking, social fucking distancing/household mixing etc etc threads instead?

This is as big as the Diana interview, the whole marriage to Meghan is historical and deserves discussion.
No it isn't 'as big as the Diana interview' because Diana was married to the heir to the throne and mother of the future king. Also we are now 20+ years further forward and times change. If it were William and Kate, it would be a different matter but Harry was/is never going to be king.

I will watch because it is interesting but not because I am on anyone's 'Team'. It is what it is and really makes no difference to my life does it?

dontdisturbmenow · 08/03/2021 10:42

I think she is very naive and maybe not too bright if she thinks going to the media crying her plea will get the media on her side to make look like a poor victim.

She used them to show she has control of her life but only sold her soul to the ripping powers of the medias. It won't go the way she'd hoped, not long term.

There are some times good reasons for privacy matters.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 08/03/2021 10:43

I think Harry is the only member of the royal family I have seen in a nazi uniform.

This too. I knew this was offensive when I was 12. No excuse.

rockingllama · 08/03/2021 10:43

#teamQueenie

and Charles eventually married the Mummy he always craved.........

as weak men often do

thegreylady · 08/03/2021 10:44

Even without the current kerfuffle I would have no interest in an attention seeking second rate actress who has found that being a ‘real’ celebrity requires responsibilities and respect has to be earned.
As for Harry he is living up to his designation as ‘spare’.
I hope the two of them settle down to decent lives with their children. They have both alienated their families.

zzizzer · 08/03/2021 10:44

I'n on team "whatever has gone on in that family, they're stupid as absolute fuck to do such a dramatic attention-seeking interview at a time when a lot of British people are on the edge". Who the hell is advising them?

Doris86 · 08/03/2021 10:45

@MeanMrMustardSeed

Always been the wild child of the family, and still causing problems now.
TwatWaffleTwinkleToes · 08/03/2021 10:46

Yeah - team middle ground for me, too.

Whatever happened, I'm unlikely to ever know enough truth to make an informed decision as to who was more 'right' Grin
