Mine are:

Being exceptionally good at slicing bread (straight, even slices every time, even on squishy, unevenly shaped loaves)

Uncannily accurate at guessing the time when I haven’t looked at a clock for hours - I’m never more than a few minutes out.

Tell me the things you can do that are not that impressive!

I've just learned to whistle through my fingers!

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 07/03/2021 01:50

I can do the first part of folding fitted sheets if that makes sense?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/03/2021 02:04

Walking on cobble stones in high heels - learnt at uni and still vg at it.

I’m very good at remembering birthdays and numbers generally - such as my long credit card number, which is not a good skill really!

If you ask me what happened on a certain day, I can usually remember what everyone had to eat and what we were all wearing.

I’m very quick at going to the loo (I regard this as a skill!)

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/03/2021 02:05

JustDanceAddict

I have a ridiculous long-term memory. I can remember what I wore to some parties when I was a teenager 😆 and not ones I still have photos from.

^^
See this is exactly like me!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/03/2021 02:07

Also a very quick “skim” reader

hullabaloo19 · 07/03/2021 02:30

I am excellent at recognising actors from films/programmes. Almost every film/programmes DP and I watch there's at least 1 actor who I'm like 'that persons from this film/programme'. It's a mix of facial recognition and voice recognition. But yeah, my useless talent :)

SquarePeggyLeggy · 07/03/2021 04:04

I’m the same with the time, even with daylight savings, even with jet lag.
I’m very good at working out weight and proportions. I’m often correct when baking to the gram, and I can always work out what will fit into what container. I’m brilliant at that. From across the room, I can yell out to husband about to put biscuits in Tupperware: “not that one, the next size up”.
I know who it’s likely to be calling me before I see the screen.
Good at choosing lanes in traffic, rarely get stuck.

What I wish I was good at: remembering birthdays. I’m so terrible at even knowing what today’s date is, I often don’t even know what month it currently is, so I’ve got no chance with birthdays.

SquarePeggyLeggy · 07/03/2021 04:04

And yes recognising actors from other things, even if it was a minor role, and even if it’s their voice!

Aimee1987 · 07/03/2021 08:40

My DP does this. I find it annoying as we will be watching something and he'll start going on about who the actor is and what other shows he recognises them from. It's one of my pet peeves about him. I just want to watch the show.
MissJeanLouise · 07/03/2021 09:18

@secretnurse Oh I wish you had been around last time I had sepsis - 45 minutes of stabbing me all the way up my arm! In the end the only vein they could get was a tiny one so they could only use a yellow cannula, which lasted 2 hours before it blew 😭

Pyewackect · 07/03/2021 09:25

I'm good at crosswords and golf.

SonicStars · 07/03/2021 10:48

I'm really good at crossing the road.

I grew up in an urban area, my friends and I would walk a couple of miles home from school and would often just head across the road mid conversation as we saw a gap. I didn't realise till I went to university that it was a superpower.

I went to Ho chi min city with a 4 & 5 yes old and before we went everyone warned me about crossing the road there. No problem. Easy in fact.

singingsoprano · 07/03/2021 11:03

I can also accurately guess the time without a clock/watch, measure without using a tape measure. I can also see if furniture will fit and know how to move it without measuring as I see it visually.
I can also go somewhere once and remember directions and can navigate without a map, even though I struggle to tell left from right. I can also spot spelling/grammar mistakes as well as read very fast.

singingsoprano · 07/03/2021 11:17

@PurpleSproutingSomething

I'm a super recogniser.

Those who can guess the time, do you always know what day it is without thinking? Like the time between Christmas and New Year?

@PurpleSproutingSomething yes. Drives my DH nuts as I always know what day and date it is without checking.
JackieTheFart · 07/03/2021 11:42

How dare you, this is my skill Grin. I’m also good a estimating lengths and weights.

I have scary-good aim when chucking stuff over short distances. Scary-good in that if the person I’m chucking to is not great at catching they’ll probably get it between the eyes Blush

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 07/03/2021 14:03

I'm a very good sheep shearer which is actually a useful skill but I live in a city and have worked in schools and offices.

My less useful skills are being able to draw a completely straight line without using a ruler and boiling exactly the right amount of water.

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 07/03/2021 15:26

I have a sixth sense when something is going to kick off and leave before it happens. A friend is in awe of it and will always phone me the next day and say 'You did it again, how did you know?'. I never know who, I just know something is going to happen and make my exit.
I can also cut or draw perfect straight lines, its the only thing 13 admires about me!!

ChristmasFluff · 07/03/2021 16:35

I can diagnose car problems by hearing. Not than any garages believe me, and it's really frustrating that they currently insist that 'nothing's wrong according to our diagnostics'. My starter motor drive gear is worn, and so it intermittently isn't contacting the flywheel properly.

I remember an ex who insisted I was making a fuss about a problem with his boost pipe or manifold, because of a whining sound at certain accelerations. Ended up with black smoke pouring out down the motorway - cracked manifold.

I have no idea what any of these terms mean or refer to. Hanging out with my dad and passing him tools only taught me so much.

CatBumJuice · 07/03/2021 16:45

I'm extremely good at being early for things, even if everything conspires against me. I can also make excellent decorations out of plastic cups. In awe of the folding fitted sheet thing. I need a diagram!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 07/03/2021 18:43

Quite good at knitting!

MagpieMomma · 07/03/2021 18:44

I can guess a measurement to the cm, if I need to draw a line or cut a length of ribbon, I can get it spot on.
I can also park in any space, my friends actually know me for this and if they get parked in a tricky spot will say ”Ooh, MagpieMomma would be proud of me!”

Clammyclam · 07/03/2021 18:45

When measuring out butter I can slice it off the block within a Gram of what I need just by eyeballing
I always check on the scales
9/10 it's dead on especially if it's 100g.

Mariamaria71 · 07/03/2021 18:45

I'm really good at knowing where people have put things. To the point where one of my friends would call and ask me where he'd put his car keys even when I hadn't been in his house.

TrixieMixie · 07/03/2021 18:46

I can be in and out of the loo really quickly. I am baffled what other women do in there and suspect some are writing their wills. I am also quick at the supermarket checkout.

thosetalesofunexpected · 07/03/2021 18:48

@EenyMeenyMinyNo

Its really good you listen to your instinct like that.

More people ,should listen to their instincts too.

It a primeval instinct (gut emotional instinct.

theres a American Author who has wrote a book called The Gift of fear ,he has worked for Anti -Terrisom Dept in American politics.

I can rember his name but he is well known.

He is been on Oprah Winfrey TV show.
Its fascinating and enlightening, how thought provoking weird and amazing the human mind really is.
