to think Ronan Keating can’t sing? Which other famous singers can’t sing?

When I was a teenager I thought Ronan Keating had a great voice (despite not being my type of music) but I think I probably just fancied him. I’ve just heard one of his songs from around 1999 pop up on a Spotify playlist and he sounds like a goat yelping into a Pringles can.

I know lots of pop stars can’t sing for shite but in my head I had him in a bracket of people who can sing nicely - despite probably not having listened to his music for 20+ years.

Can RK sing?

Which other pop stars who people think are decent singers actually turn out to sound like a farm yard animal with trapped wind.

I watched Emeli Sandé performing live a few years ago on a Graham Norton type show and she was dreadful - flat and out of key! I was surprised because, although I'm not a fan of hers, I'd always thought she had a strong voice.

Yes Kylie! She looks great and has catchy Stock, Aitken and Waterman tunes but you could find a better singer in my local pub.

Gwen Stefani. I really like her music but she can’t really sing

@TheCrowening he's fhs lead singer from one of the biggest selling bands of all time so some people must think he is. I personally think Oasis is a fab band but then again we all have different tastes.

I don't think people like Adele or Kylie are awful singers but I don't like their style of music.

I think vocal styles go in and out of fashion

X factor has encouraged a sort of warbly, breathy style.

Paul McCartney used to be great vocally but not now

Got to say tony Hadley has an absolutely fantastic voice live as does Jay Kay, Chris Martin, Beverley Knight

I'm always impressed by how Madonna makes the most of her very mediocre voice (and lyric-writing ability), Celine Dion, I cannot bear in any form. Whitney and Mariah, I am not fond of that melismatic style, but I do think they have good voices.

People who can't sing conventionally but whose voices I do love - Lou Reed, Nico, Marianne Faithfull, Morrissey.

I can't stand Mariah Carey's voice. Not saying she can't sing at all but she sounds so screechy and shouty to me.

One who definitely couldn't was Brian Harvey who was the lead in East 17. So nasally and flat. Saw a video of him singing 'stay' a few years ago and he was bloody awful! Still sings through his nose and was obviously out of tune all the way through!

Elton John at the global citizens concert was quite the shocker. I think he can sing or rather, could but I think that ship has sailed now.

Sam Smith, he came to sa on a touring concert. In the first night, did two songs, they were shockers. Like really bad. Then he left the stage and never came back. Noone knew wtf was going on, only to be told, that's it folks.

I see Mariah scored in the top 5 for best ever singers. But there is no way I can get through listening to a whole song of hers. She doesn't have to chuck out the top octave in every number really.

But my pet peeve right now are all these new female artists (I can't even remember their names) but they try to go with this sultry sexy voice and you can't make out head nor tail of what they are saying. And there is one that has a put on lisp. Dreadful. Dd isn't here otherwise I'd say who she is, but I'm not googling because then I'll just get irritated all over again.
