to think Ronan Keating can’t sing? Which other famous singers can’t sing?

When I was a teenager I thought Ronan Keating had a great voice (despite not being my type of music) but I think I probably just fancied him. I’ve just heard one of his songs from around 1999 pop up on a Spotify playlist and he sounds like a goat yelping into a Pringles can.

I know lots of pop stars can’t sing for shite but in my head I had him in a bracket of people who can sing nicely - despite probably not having listened to his music for 20+ years.

Can RK sing?

Which other pop stars who people think are decent singers actually turn out to sound like a farm yard animal with trapped wind.

Sorry haven't read the full thread but Billy Corbin of Smashing Pumpkins. Was listening to their stuff on Spotify and it went into songs that weren't on the albums. Really good tunes but he is just droning, out of tune. I was rather gutted.

Paul McCartney
Paloma Faith - she puts on that wierd accent

ichundich · 05/03/2021 18:34

Mariah Carey
Adele
Pink
Rick Astley
Tiffany
Kim Wilde
Gary Barlow
Bon Jovi

Paul McCartney
Now perhaps, but not in the early days!

My choices are Gaga - i like her dance stuff, but her voice is just not that great for ballads. Very bland.
Adele - very overrated. Powerful but really lacks nuance and tonal variety. And I don’t like her exaggerated enunciations.

Cam77 · 05/03/2021 18:39

at Adele being a pub singer. The woman has phenomenal control, range and sensitivity, along with a natural warmth and depth.

Don’t hear it myself!

Tanith · 05/03/2021 18:41

Mark Knopfler.

Bob Geldof is another with an awful, often out of tune, voice.

TwatWaffleTwinkleToes · 05/03/2021 18:44

Madonna - as flat as a fookin' pancake.

Hats off to her for being so succesful at it, because she didn't get any help in the form of singing talent.

Tanith · 05/03/2021 18:46

Oh, and Chrissy Hind's voice is horrible, too.

HotMess21 · 05/03/2021 18:48

@pepperaunt

Sorry have just skimmed thread. Has anyone mentioned Lady Gaga? She was so flat singing at the inauguration (particular bugbear)
Nope. I'm not having that. This woman can SING!

YABU. I’ve seen Ronan Keating sing live with no backing etc..100 people audience at a private event and his voice was amazing...this was 13 years ago though so maybe he’s not as good now??

Also saw Elton John about 15 years ago and he was phenomenal. Neither are my favourites at all but credit where credit’s due..

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 05/03/2021 18:53

Trent Reznor , but it works for what he does.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 05/03/2021 18:54

Katy Perry. CANNOT sing. Soz Katy.

Also someone once said Ellie Goulding sounds like she's inhaled talcum powder before she sings. I've never been able to listen to her the same again.

isthismylifenow · 05/03/2021 18:56

I absolutely had to share this gem from Dexys Midnight Runners 😁

fluffysocks89 · 05/03/2021 19:18

Regarding Cillas voice. Years ago she was interviewed by Piers Morgan (or maybe Jonathon Ross) who dared to slate her singing by saying it was unlikely she’d have got through XFactor. She didn’t take it very well at all.

She had a strong voice to be fair.

minty133 · 05/03/2021 19:18

@isthismylifenow
That's a shocker!!! 😆

supersonicginandtonic · 05/03/2021 19:21

@ChickenSoupForTheHmm completely agree with Chris Martin and Jay Kay! Amazing at outdoor concerts and festivals

Stopsnowing · 05/03/2021 19:23

There is a difference between a good singing voice and performing and moving your audience.

By all accounts, Cilla wasn't known for being particularly self critical...
Candleabra · 05/03/2021 19:30

Paul McCartney had a lovely voice. Agreed he should have stopped years ago though.

Bluewavescrashing · 05/03/2021 19:33

I really fancied Ronan too, partly because he reminded me of my very attractive 26 year old biology teacher (I was 16).

I'm still a bit in love with the teacher who crops up in my dreams quite often.

DracarysThis · 05/03/2021 19:34

Jess Glynn and that nasty vibrato.

Adele sounds like a harpooned whale.

Robbie Williams sounds vocally constipated, lots of straining and squeezing.

notawittyname1954 · 05/03/2021 19:34

I love Olly Alexanders voice. Seen Years and Years twice in concert and whilst his voice is not the strongest his charisma and performing is fantastic. He is also a talented composer and pianist.

Pancake4life · 05/03/2021 19:36

i don't understand those saying Celine dion. I saw her live and found her quite outstanding actually , can't say I've ever heard anyone better.

notawittyname1954 · 05/03/2021 19:36

Cilla black seemed to have two voices. The soft one when she started a song which was ok and then the belt which went through you. I also don't like Adele's voice, too belty.

Redrunbluerun · 05/03/2021 19:38

Kelis and Avril Lavigne. Google them live without auto tune, genuinely awful.
