to think Ronan Keating can’t sing? Which other famous singers can’t sing?

When I was a teenager I thought Ronan Keating had a great voice (despite not being my type of music) but I think I probably just fancied him. I’ve just heard one of his songs from around 1999 pop up on a Spotify playlist and he sounds like a goat yelping into a Pringles can.

I know lots of pop stars can’t sing for shite but in my head I had him in a bracket of people who can sing nicely - despite probably not having listened to his music for 20+ years.

Can RK sing?

Which other pop stars who people think are decent singers actually turn out to sound like a farm yard animal with trapped wind.

All Saints.

Wow, fucking useless.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 13/03/2021 01:32

Although I love her songs, Dua Lipa is absolutely flat singing live, however Lewis Capaldi and Little Mix are amazing live!

Splicedbananas · 13/03/2021 01:53

@MMfanalltheway

Think this is the actual version of it. I don't think that the crowd booed in reality. It's still god-awful.

That was one of the cringiest musical moments ever. He did so well not to snigger.
lighteincastlewindow · 13/03/2021 02:00

@Splicedbananas Jesus that is god awful indeed 😂

@FlyingNorth

Can I add Stevie Wonder. Odd phrasing, random shouty bits and out of tune.
Thank-you! I've always thought this but he is revered by everyone else as a great singer.
JeffTheOracle · 13/03/2021 06:57

Someone sneeringly said girls aloud earlier in the thread - most of them can't but Nicola Roberts has a beautiful voice

Whoever said Pink has got absolutely no idea what they're talking about. She's an incredible singer.

I love rita ora on the voice Germany too

beguilingeyes · 13/03/2021 07:26

I don't think it's his singing he's revered for.. although I don't think it's bad. It's the fact that he's a genius songwriter who pretty much does everything himself, all the instruments. He signed to Motown at 11!

Oh come on!! Shock
3babylady · 15/03/2021 12:18

Wow I could be here all day.

Dua lipa basically talks in annoying accent.
Jess Glynnes shaky voice hurts my tinnitus.
James Arthur makes me want to claw my ear drums out.
Any boyband that ever went on the xfactor or BGT with the exception of Harry styles & Zayn those 2 aren't the worst.
That girl who sings about her driving license for the love of god stoppppp playing it on the radio.
Ellie Goulding is just shocking.
I have absolutely nothing against lisps infact my son has a mild one but I can't get past hearing Sam smiths lisp in his songs same for my previous Ellie Goulding not there fault I just can't not hear it,
Selena Gomez is a great actress not a good singer.
Drake, absolutely awful even with the autotune.
And I truly can't listen to Ed Sheeran not only do all of his songs sound exactly the same he has absolutely no versatility and just irritates me as a whole.
Ahhhh that's better! Grin

Upset by the George Michael comments the man was pitch perfect come onnn?!?!

3babylady · 15/03/2021 12:21

Also I've mistakenly used the wrong pronoun for Sam smith which apologise for.

beguilingeyes · 15/03/2021 16:22

Simon Le Bon. Never was there a lead singer with such a feeble voice.

DrManhattan · 15/03/2021 22:10

Adele

Refael · 02/07/2022 13:00

Whitney was great singer and eho sad she was bad? stupid peoplentalking about Whitney or George Michael

Refael · 02/07/2022 13:03

Cindy Lauper? you idiot

Turnthatoff · 02/07/2022 13:04

Some superstars aren’t great singers, and yet they are amazing entertainers and/or musical geniuses. Mick Jagger, david Bowie, come to mind. Also, Madonna.

Refael · 02/07/2022 13:06

Madonna yes but here people are idiots talking about Whitney Beyonce and George Michael can't sing 😂😂😂😂😂😂 i can't stop laughing

TheKeatingFive · 02/07/2022 13:07

I think with singing there are two dimensions. The technical singing ability, which can be objectively judged and then the interpretation/showmanship/ storytelling which is much more subjective.

Plenty of famous performers are very skilled at the latter without being particularly good at the former.

WhereTheLightMeetsTheSea · 02/07/2022 13:19

This thread is ridiculous. People are just naming every singer they don’t like. I’m not a fan of Adele or Whitney’s music, but to say they can’t sing, is just weird. Same for so many others on here.

Whitney had a great voice but left me cold. Her version of I will always love you is a great vocal workout. But devoid of emotion. Hard to explain the difference.

James Blunt is woeful. Maybe it's just the crap songs and lame accompaniment more than the voice. Anyway I love his brilliant wit

Was just going to say exactly the same! Simon Le Bon cannot sing for toffee

Hbh17 · 02/07/2022 16:11

Adele - obviously. Known as the "pub singer" in this house.

eldora · 02/07/2022 16:34

The dismissal of black legends like Whitney Houston on this thread is laughable.

I bet some of those same people rave about Adele.

Musical taste is subjective but there is a whiff of racist jealousy on this thread.

Watch Cheryl Cole Making Gary Barlow sound good. Honestly it is about the worst I have ever heard:
The Queens Diamond Jubilee Concert - Gary Barlow And Cheryl Cole

Yes, it's bad. But I raise you this...

Cheryl is many things, but not someone with any vocal ability.

dropthevipers · 02/07/2022 16:59

Given a choice between hearing Larry the Lamb being clubbed to death with a Queen Anne chair leg and Florence and the Machine, it's always going to be Larry that wins.

TimBoothseyes · 02/07/2022 17:00

Ian Brown....couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Having said that though the Stone Roses were an excellent band when they weren't playing live.
