To get irrationally by spelling errors?

Macaroni46 · 04/03/2021 19:33

I mean on Facebook posts, sites where people are asking for items to be donated etc
I just think if you're going to post, at least check what you've written!
To name a few:
Your / you're
Draws for drawers
There / their / they're
To / too
How do others feel?

OP posts:
jetadore · 04/03/2021 22:13

Don’t know about spellings but missing out whole words drives me completely.

Thedogscollar · 04/03/2021 22:16

Posts like this piss me off all sneering and look at me I never make a mistake.

@Janegrey333

The fact that the title has a word omitted is no big deal. The OP’s point is valid. Why are some of you so juvenile - and “rude”?
Because the typos etc which piss the OP so much may have happened in a similar fashion to their own. I.e. an innocent mistake.

The OP made a mistake. These people she derides may also have made a mistake.
fuzzymoon · 04/03/2021 22:20

There you go OP. You proved a point.
Easy to make a mistake.
Also not everyone is lucky to find spelling easy. They may not realise they've made a mistake when reading it back.
You are either really ignorant or nasty because you either don't understand that not everyone can spell or you've no empathy or care for people who find spelling or grammar difficult.

What are we to do ?
Why is it important ?

To get irrationally by spelling errors?

"To become irrationally irritated by spelling errors?"

Dunno but grammar gremlins make my brain itch.

Not really. As pp's have said, you don't know the reasons people may be unable to spell so..

Judge not. Lest ye be judged, of course Smile

1Morewineplease · 04/03/2021 22:23

Spelling and grammar mistakes really annoy me and make me want to stab at my phone, furiously.
That being said, I have also fallen foul to autocorrecting.
However, this is my issue and I'm rather loathe to pick anyone up on it, but I do take great issue with anyone that says 'could/would/should of'
That is plainly lazy and dyslexia has nothing to do with it.

NotMeNoNo · 04/03/2021 22:27

YABU
Autocorrect doesn't help
Facebook isn't an exam
Some people are dyslexic
Some people didn't do that well at education
This has been said loads of times before!

Degree educated people who write reports for a living (in my team) they should get it right but I can't get stressed about Facebook ads.

Santosug · 04/03/2021 22:27

I really struggle with there/their etc your, you're and could have/of. Nothing to do with laziness.
I run most things through grammarly but when I'm on my phone I don't, so social media or forum posts can get muddled.

fuzzymoon · 04/03/2021 22:33

1more - dyslexia may have nothing to do with it but that's not the only reason people may make grammar or spelling mistakes.

Poor education.
Deprived childhood
Other learning difficulties than dyslexia.

I'm not sure why you think they make the mistakes.

WorraLiberty · 04/03/2021 22:34

Oh dear OP Grin Grin

pursuedbyablackdog · 04/03/2021 22:46

santosug would this help; there, think of the phrase 'here and there' take off the 't' and you have here! Their and heir refer to people not place.
Your similar to our, referring to a yourself or ourselves! You're think of two separate words you are (might help putting it into a sentence)
Could have forget the of of course! Smile

Seasidemumma77 · 04/03/2021 23:00

@LibrariesGiveUsPower45321

Some of us are dyslexic. We still manage better grammar that you though.
Love this. I'm dyslexic, I try my best, but even I know to triple check before posting
Maverickess · 04/03/2021 23:10

Isn't it ironic don't you think?

'A little too ironic? Yeah a I really do think'
'It's like ra-e'ain on your wedding day, it's a free rides when ya already paid'

Sorry, that line has caused that song ironic to ping around my brain - can't remember who it's by though.

I'll get me coat......

But yes, the irony is strong in this one.

I'm desperately trying to get my teeth and ignore the stationery spelt as stationary by my dd2's teacher on class dojo today because I know I'll look like a twat but it really bugs me every time I see the message....

CovidStopping · 04/03/2021 23:25

Was that an intentional error?

Hillarious OP! Oh the irony!!

WeatherwaxOn · 04/03/2021 23:50

@FOJN

"they no what I mean".

Did she say that or write it? If you're quoting what she said then you've made a mistake.

She wrote it. She was someone who used to work with herbs and medicines so I would have expected more attention to detail.
