To be annoyed that our local tescos have changed their P&C spaces to disabled.

There was a letter in the local paper from a disabled person saying that the P&C spaces weren't needed and that they should be changed to disabled ones.

Even though there is disabled spaces about 1 min walk from the door anyway.

They've now got rid of P&C spaces and replaced them with yet more disabled!! Theres about 30 of them now but no-where for the mum and kids.

Am I being evil?

Wish they'd never invented the damn spaces. All people do is moan about them. Even seen posts where people admit to damaging cars that shouldnt be there.

Other carparks dont have them and people seem to manage fine.

Disabled should get priority and be near the door.

Lets hope the other branches follow suit and maybe all supermarkets will abolish them. Stop those that moan that the spaces are mis-used for a start.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 05/11/2007 20:38

where is the OP tesco's store? because i want to congratulate that store on a good decision.

i owuld love p+t spaces to be gotton rid of altogether.

Flier · 05/11/2007 20:39

oh no not another p&t parking thread.........it'll all kick off................

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 05/11/2007 20:40

oh and i do tend to park at the back, bnear trolly bay (so can put youngest dd right int trolly) and near a crossing.

i have a mini houdini, a dd2 with balence problems, and a miniteen 7year old, and can manage it.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/11/2007 20:40

I'd prefer spaces to be made bigger in general. We are lucky that our car has a sliding door so no real probs getting the DCs in or out. Just the usual problem with getting them into the buggy in the middle of the car park. We've had the car for about 6mths now and Sat was the first time we parked in a P&T space (shopping centre, never used a supermarket one). It did make life easier as we didn't have such a squeeze but I'm not fussed about parking near the front of the store. When my SPD gets too bad I make DH do the shopping.

My dad is registered disabled and often stays indoors rather than risk having a long walk as he just can't manage it any more, he really appreciates his badge means he can get out and about a bit.

My mum has problems walking (knee surgery) and has terrible trouble getting in and out of usual sized spaces. She's always parked at the back of the carpark as she is not very good hates parking.

denbury · 05/11/2007 20:51

i think p&t spaces are good. put them at the back off the car park with lots of trolleys and i'ld be happy. i came across a disabled woman parked in a p&t space once and asked her where her child was.she said she was disabled and entitled to park there.i wouldn't mind but there were normal spaces closer to the shop.she didn't even need to have wheel chair accesss.

juuule · 05/11/2007 20:53

So do you think she parked in the p&t just to spite people?

Flier · 05/11/2007 20:55

oops so it has saggarmaker

juuule · 05/11/2007 20:56

Just realised you want p&t spaces at the back of the carpark not that they are at the back of the carpark.
I can't believe that you would begrudge someone with a disability a p&t space, though.

wrinklytum · 05/11/2007 20:58

For gods sake..You people whinging about disabled people should go across to the SN thread and read the thread about the woman who took her daughter to the Harvester restaurant. It may give you some idea of what people can be up against.Honestly.Must parp myself off this thread. It has annoyed me.

TellusMater · 05/11/2007 20:59

I wonder if they've just added an extra stress dimension to shopping?

I used to get het up over them, when I had the whole new-mum entitlement thing going on .

But then DH told me to get a grip, park at the back near the trolley bays, park slightly left of centre and generally get over myself .

And once I stopped looking for spaces, I stopped getting worked up over the availablility or otherwise of them.

Yes, they are nice, and convenient. Of course they are. But I don't see how you can have enough of them to cater for all-comers without inconveniencing other people.

So my advice is to either stop looking for them, or come prepared to queue for them.

lomond · 05/11/2007 21:05

Am I the only one who has bashed someones door whilst trying to get my dd out of the car

I don't necessarily think there has to be parent and child parking but I do think that all spaces should be a bit bigger.

I wouldn't have a problem with a disabled person using a p&c space.

Jenswish · 05/11/2007 21:10

See here's the thing,

When I go to a carpark and see people that haven't parked straight it annoys the hell out of me cos now I've gotta park differently to be able to accomodate that car. Although I understand why its done now, people who don't have kids (like I was) don't see the need and its just annoying.

Once again I want to say I AM NOT SAYING DONT HAVE DISABLED BAYS OR THAT DISABLED PEOPLE SHOULDNT PARK IN P&C SPACES.

I think the easiest way would be if the widened all the spaces, its not gonna happen but its gonna be the easiest. Otherwise make a mum & baby time!? haha

'Expat that's shite. The car parks I've been in a full of completly rubbish drivers who cannot manouver their vehicles and look in the mirrors at the same time.
It's bloody dangerous having so many of them around, far more dangerous than crossing a road. You haven't got a clue really.'

GIMME A BREAK!

I have to drive everywhere. There is no bus out here and no amenities.

Have to go into town for that.

And you're telling me all car parks are death zones?

Then why aren't we hearing about how many people are killed in car parks every day?

Get over it!

Here, here, LadyVic! I agree completely.

i knew we were overdue one of these threads

lou33 · 05/11/2007 21:18

monthly things they seem to be now

bookofthedeadmum · 05/11/2007 21:25

I never managed to park in a P & C space when my dd was in her carryseat - and my car was a Citroen Forte then which seemed to have extra-long doors (they probably weren't but ths was my perception at the time). Somehow I managed to get her in and out at the supermarket (or other places) without leaving huge gouges in other car doors - I chose my time to shop and headed towards the empty parts of the carparks. I think disabled parking is more essential than P & C spaces tbh. Disabled people are as entitled to extra space either side of their as much as little people are. P & C spaces are just a courtesy by the shops.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/11/2007 21:25

Yes - a monthly curse. Can we all pretend to be menopausal and not have them anymore?

Expat, I drive everywhere too. Obviously you live somewhere where the standards of driving are better than here. Lucky you.

Jenswish · 05/11/2007 21:27

Doodle - I like that picture!

bookofthedeadmum · 05/11/2007 21:29

The traffic wardens where I live don't hesitate to book disabled drivers if they stop on a double yellow line even though it's supposed to be discretionary for badge holders to park there . You can see them almost revving their machines up as they go down certain roads. People with limited mobility have to be able park somewhere - or all get those disabled scooters.

bozza · 05/11/2007 21:29

Well I must live in a similar place to expat then. I can't believe how difficult some of you make it sound. I have always managed to get my children in and out of the back of a two door car without any problems. Now they do it all themselves apart from DD needs me to fasten her belt. Yes, car parks are dangerous, that is why you take care.
