To be annoyed that our local tescos have changed their P&C spaces to disabled.

There was a letter in the local paper from a disabled person saying that the P&C spaces weren't needed and that they should be changed to disabled ones.

Even though there is disabled spaces about 1 min walk from the door anyway.

They've now got rid of P&C spaces and replaced them with yet more disabled!! Theres about 30 of them now but no-where for the mum and kids.

Am I being evil?

Phone em up and ask why?

zippitippitoes · 05/11/2007 18:47

well I guess the whole of the rest of the car park is available for parents..I imagine tesco agreed with the perceived need

Jenswish · 05/11/2007 18:49

Zippi - (Beware I'm moody so not aimed at you but) THE WHOLE OF THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE CAR PARK IS DISABLED WHY DO THEY NEED MORE!?!?!?

ok rant over!! Sorry.

30 spaces out of how many?

2shoeswhizzbangwoosh · 05/11/2007 18:52

well I am a disabled space user when dd is with me, BUT sounds odd that they would just change it like that. were there not enough disabled spaces(as I am sure you agree they are more important) or were the P&c ones being abused badly?

Ceolas · 05/11/2007 18:54

You are asking for it with this thread...

Jenswish · 05/11/2007 18:56

Don't mean to "ask for it"

There's alot of disabled spaces already, I don't think the P&C ones were being abused. There is no none in the whole of Tesco's now.

Anyway, rant over. Feel free to carry on discussing, just wondered.

Oh I'm so fed up with parents who think their needs are more important than even the most vulnerable people. Becuase they care for their precious babies they don t have to give a toss about anyone else.

Jenswish · 05/11/2007 18:57

That wasn't what I meant at all, I'm annoyed that they've changed them where there is already loads in the place.

If there was no disabled spaces at all then of course I wouldn't ask the same question in the circumstances.

A 1 minute walk for a disabled person seems like 1 hour.

You would take the disabled space..would you take their disability too?

You can park anywhere... P&T spaces aren't a necessity!

At my local tesco I park way at the end of the carpark where no lazy people ever park.. which means I more often than not have an empty space each side of me to get dd & ds in & out of the car

Were your P&T spaces near the door & the thing you are in fact objecting to is having to walk a wee bit?

GunpowderTreasonAndSquonk · 05/11/2007 19:13

has this thing kicked off yet?

FlameFromBonfire · 05/11/2007 19:14

Disgraceful.

Giving the incapacitated the chance to shop.

Make pedestrian crossings sound only too - that'd get those annoying colours away from the streets, let the deaf fend for themselves!

Rargh!

GunpowderTreasonAndSquonk · 05/11/2007 19:15

(in the voice of Kenneth Woltenhulme...)

It has now!

No, not objecting to the fact of them being by the door (which they were) I'm annoyed that there is now none in the whole place whereas if you look at the carpark it seems as though its all disabled on one side.

I'm not saying that disabled people shouldn't have spaces (of corse they should and if i've ever given that opinion then I apologise) just that it'd be nice to have a couple of wide ones for the others as well.

YES!

Those P&C spaces are a courtesy, and a right PITA for supermarkets.

Disabled bays are a necessity.

I think ALL P&C spaces should be abolished and replaced with disabled bays.

yurt1 · 05/11/2007 19:22

yeah get those disabled bastards to walk further, gits, the mothers need them more. Really, listen to yourself.

I'm an infrequent disabled space user (when I have ds1 with me) and it's often difficult to get a space. When I have ds3 with me I use P&T if there's one spare, if not I park elsewhere & walk or fetch a trolley to the car if for some reason I think he'll have a strop on.

fireflyfairy2 · 05/11/2007 19:22

If the car park is that huge then I would go at a not busy time & use an end space far away at the bottom of the carpark I find 9am a really good time

Alternatively, but a Citroen C8! Their door slide open so no chance of banging other cars

expatinscotland · 05/11/2007 19:23

I'd never seen those ridiculous P&C spaces till I moved here.

In other places, people park in the back and walk.

What a concept!

Or order online.

Jenswish · 05/11/2007 19:24

Citroen C8 sounds good, Wish I could afford it!! hahaha.

I wouldn't care if they put the bays at the end of the carpark, just a little extra space please.

ChasingSquirrels · 05/11/2007 19:26

YABU.
Expat - why are P&C spaces a PITA for the supermarkets?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/11/2007 19:27

Lordy - what did we do before P&C spaces?

Parp!

expatinscotland · 05/11/2007 19:28

My h used to work in a supermarket, CS, on the customer kiosk counter.

No end of complaints from lazy, whingy mums about these spaces - how they needed more, someone was in them with no child, etc.

PITA.

Disabled bays, simple. No badge, no entitlement to be there. Get a contract with a private tow company and put up warning signs that people who use the bays with no blue badge will be towed at their expense.

That's how it's done in the US - no P&C bays there - and it works great.

Threadworm · 05/11/2007 19:29

I don't think they had P&C spaces when my dcs were buggy-sized. I certainly never felt that was a problem. Why are they so vital?
